My Mom worked at Buster Browns in the 80s then at JC Penny. We also use to eat at The Patio Restaurant in the Hess's department store. They had gigantic food protons there.
Nice video man! I’m really upset I never got to see this place in person but this video at least provides a look at this beautiful gem. Thank you for documenting.
It's always the crimes that kill malls then people stay away.I have this in my city at one mall and it was built 25 years ago and still is nice.A third of the stores are empty inside and almost all of the shops outside are, that's about 20 businesses.
What a shame I was just there last year and now it just closed down and it's going to be demolished. It's a good thing I did cause now I have something to remember it by since I took a lot of pictures when I was there. Very nice mall so sad to see it go.
The research you did for this was amazing! How'd you find all this information? Google doesn't turn up a lot of the things you cited in the video. Curious to learn so I can do more research on the topic.
The place was a ghetto mess with the exception of the Bass Pro Shop & 2nd and Charles bookstore. The movie theater pre-pandemic was being overridden by teens going in and out of the theaters disturbing paying customers.
I went today to one in my city for thr first time since moving here. Was too overpriced for everything and just not exciting. I did like going to the mall tho as a kid. I just go to Walmart now and the dollar store. Convenient and cheaper.
I worked there during the 80s. Thanks for covering this!
So cool to be able to show this to my grandma, who went here a lot. Thank you

I've been to this city twice and never saw the mall.😢
Great job on the video. Interesting mall-looked to be in good shape at the time it was closing. Similar layout of the local mall in my hometown.

Very interesting and well presented :)
I went to that SW convention in '97!
Tempus fugit
Reminds me of Metrocenter mall in Phoenix AZ, that opened in 1973 and closed in 2022
Balls were such a big thing and fun thing while growing up! Another social event, stripped from generations to come…

Having four malls in the area: war of attrition
Bummer. Blame online shopping. Weird to think how computers have impacted our lives. Oh, well, that's life.
Walmart started it all.
