After 10 years with the Prius, I couldn't go with another one! I'm very happy with my 2016 RAV4 XLE Hybrid with no options other than the floor mats. I was very tired of the road noise, total digital information on the dashboard, and low ground clearance in Minnesota. I've got 7 inches of ground clearance with this Hybrid! Also, I have electronic AWD! Almost 200hp with the Hybrid model! They must have added some insulation because I'm not getting anywhere near the amount of road noise like I got with the Prius. The new 2016 Prius models really turned me off! I'm very glad with my purchase decision! 32MPG and more? I'm very happy! I'm actually considering buying a RAV4, and found you need to step up trim levels if you don't want a black interior, and more exterior color choices, but the wheels keep getting bigger as well, and for me 17''are the biggest I want, and would like 16'' for the snow and rough roads where I live, and the V6, but those day's are gone.
Thanks! I agree on the wheel size issue, would be nice to have smaller options namely for winters. Post back if you buy one and let us know how you like it
Dude, Goose, your production quality is ridiculous. I, like literally everyone else here, cannot believe you don't have more subs. I've never been so hyped for a video about... a RAV4. Jeez.
Some objections to your commentary. 1. The V6 hasn't been offered in the Rav since 2013. 2. "S" doesn't stand for sport, it's Steptronic, Toyota has never claimed "S" mode to be anything other than selectable gear mode in any of their cars. Some newer models have a sport button, this may have one, but let's be real... haha
I really enjoy your reviews. You speak very well and calm at the same time getting to me all the info i might need to know about the car. thank you. keep it up. subscribed
It’s does everything adequately, a complement really, if they still have the v6 it would really put it on another level, I mean if you even get a chance to drive a 2012 v6 rav 4 you must, it’s just about neck and neck with a 2013 330i 0-60
Excellent review! Very enjoyable and entertaining, but above all, interesting and informative. I had one of the RAV4s with the V6, and although I really like the size and the new updates of the current version, I am disappointed Toyota does not offer a larger engine. Even the 2.0 turbo from the NX would be a welcome edition to the RAV. Memories of the days when the RAV had a great power to weight ratio with the 3.5....gone for "marginal" better mpg numbers.
I really enjoyed the review. Just one little thing that bothered me. At one point you said it was a pain to fold the second row down because the headrest would come in contact with the back of the first row. There is a button on the side of the second row headrest that folds it downward and eliminates this problem.
Regarding the 2016 RAV4 OE tires...don't get them, if the dealer can offer you the choice of getting your own tires do that. My sis got the Hybrid one and the tires are terrible, on dry road are okay-ish but on wet road they start hydroplaning from 85-90Km/h (or 53-55). I changed them for the Dunlop SP Sport 01.
The ride quality issues you faced with both the RAV4 and NX200t could be explained by the additional damping from the SE and F-Sport trims respectively. Also, from everything I've seen and read, the new RAV4 hybrid has been considered as a solid successor for the V6 as it has comparable torque figures and arguably the best MPG for crossovers currently.
This is the only vehicle that I’ve driven and could not enjoy driving , practical yes reliable yes but driving it is just a chore and in longer trips i have to take breaks because it’s painful
@savagegeese At 3:10, what model is the tokico front sport tune suspension that Toyota offers on a 2016/2018 rav4 is? And what code number is it to find one?
i bought this same model couple years ago and came across your review, I thought about selling because I miss driving a fun car. I'm gonna wait for 10 years before deciding to sell now.

Some of the things that turn me off about the RAV4 (and other Toyotas)... the telescoping steering wheel is a joke... it needs to telescope another inch or two. The seats in the RAV4 are neither comfortable or uncomfortable... just meh. I drove one and it wasn't exactly memorable.
Very Nice Review. These cars look great in person and my god there is a ton of space even though for being an in between of compact and normal suv. Very Quiet and Good Fuel Economy.
Question? When you fold the back seat, does it not have a button to fold your headrest forward to accommodate and clear the front seat? I have the 2014 and its a button to turn the headrest forward to clear.
+Nathan Huth It's actually a test to see if it results in people subscribing, I can look at the stats to see if it shows any difference. Won't be a habit.
I drove one of these and hated it. It gallops over bumps to the point that your coffee will be everywhere. The interior plastics scratch horribly if you even look at them.
bought one of these used. the RAV4 doesn't do anything great, and doesn't do anything bad. it's basically smack in the middle. i wouldn't buy one of these brand new, the prices are out of control. you can buy a 3-5 year old used one for $13K-$17K. it does what i need well. it's economical, it drives well, the AWD system is better than CRV but not as good as Forester. it's decent though, gets me up my steep driveway. i didn't want the new one with all of those safety features which all disable in bad weather like snow. buy a used one and save $$$$. there is a new gen coming out soon
I see you have reviewed both the 2016 Rav4 and the Tuscon. In your opinion, which would you choose and why? Trying to make a decision, and don't really care for Mazda or Subaru
As always, top tier review. They are pretty reliable, as most toyotas are, but i personally know someone with a new-ish ('13-'14-orother) rav4 who is having major issues with the direct injection system. It's gotten to the point where the toyota dealer told him to only go to shell fuel stations. Plenty of other cars with GDI don't seem to have that many problems. He's had two HPFP replacements along with two full injector set replacements and one ECU replacement. He's had the entire fuel system replaced twice as well. All filters, lines, low pressure pump, etc etc. His car will lean out, cause a DTC for burning lean and will go into limp mode. You can hear the HPFP chirping before it happens. No one seems to be able to figure out what is causing this. Probably something dumb like a pinched line or clogged filter somewhere ... but since that's all been replaced twice ... i dno. Other than that, it's a great car. As you said, not an enthusiast car by any means, but it drives well, has good road manners, interior is great, reasonably comfortable, etc etc. One of the all time great family cars IMHO.
These don't have direct injection. Actually it's only available on some of their V6s. They been doing it 2006. It's the best in the industry with the combination of direct and port to help avoid carbon build up. I think your friends RAV4 has the only direct injection 4 ever built. I say this because they don't exist.
Carlos Guevara Who said anything about it being a four cylinder? Also, this is a european car, not an american car. afaik it is direct injected, don't know about their dual injection thing, i thought this only existed since the gt86
Carlos Guevara Don't think the fuel quality is bad, but the thing is you can buy bad fuel there, whereas the minimum here is 95. You can't buy any "worse" fuels.
Gr8 videos! I do have to point out that when putting the back seats down, the headrest does angle down so you don't have to put the front seats forward.
i've got a 11 v6 ... 480000kms .. works like a champ. only problem is with the 2 pc drive shaft . I replaced it twice . other than that , just brakes and oil changes every 2 weeks .
You mentioned you didn't like the LED headlights on the Rav4 - specifically being washed out in snow. Did you have the same experience with the CX-5's LED headlights being washed out as well?
Nice quick review, direct get to the point. I love it. Although the SE tokico shocks ride fine. I bought my niece the 2017 SE model. It has the newer safety feature than my Porsche Cayenne S. It's really not bad for its price. Probably it would be much easier to maintain. We bought the extended service plan. 5 yrs, 50k miles.
For those of you who have driven both the 13-15 as well as the 16-18. How is the hwy noise? I just bought a 2015 and I am very surprised by how much wind noise you get over 40 mph. I drove a Scion XB before this and the wind noise was so well handled. I cannot believe they let this car be so so loud, nearly drowning out the radio.
I'm curious out of all compact SUVs you pretty much reviewed all of them except for CRV. Really looking forward to seeing your review on that car, unless it is too boring to review of course :)
I believe Jaguar has a similar exterior color. They call it caviar. Could you please share which cars exceeded your expectations on the rough pavement section?
I am disappointed at the entertainment-info system. The speed is definitely slow and unresponsive. The corner they cut, they must have saved $2 on the manufacturing cost. That's totally not worth the saving. I want to know what are your thoughts on the Apple or Android based systems.
Entune sucks donkey D. go on amazon and other sites, you can buy Android Auto head units for $400 which are awesome. you can self-program it to work with the backup camera too
Would you recommend buying the extended warranty? 100,000 inside and out. I’m not worried about the engine but more concerned about all the electrical parts breaking and the cost to repair. It’s about 1700 extra. From dealership or 1500 for CarMax call maxcare i think.. I haven’t bought a car since 2003. Aloha

bought one of these used. the RAV4 doesn't do anything great, and doesn't do anything bad. it's basically smack in the middle. i wouldn't buy one of these brand new, the prices are out of control. you can buy a 3-5 year old used one for $13K-$17K. it does what i need well. it's economical, it drives well, the AWD system is better than CRV but not as good as Forester. it's decent though, gets me up my steep driveway. i didn't want the new one with all of those safety features which all disable in bad weather like snow. buy a used one and save $$$$. there is a new gen coming out soon
Any chance of getting the MDX hybrid? Or RLX hybrid ?
9:37 Hey same corner you hit those 2 roadside markers in the Kia Sorento. There were 3, now there's only one! hahahaaaaaa
Of course the review is excellent. As an Asian Indian, I love the white t-shirt :)
I see you have reviewed both the 2016 Rav4 and the Tuscon. In your opinion, which would you choose and why? Trying to make a decision, and don't really care for Mazda or Subaru
You have some serious skills my friend. The production value is over the top. Ever thought of making a movie?
+Antoine Pageau I used to make movies as hobby when younger but nothing for past 5 years, lack people around who share that interest.

***** We all told him to take legal action, but some people just aren't inclined to do it.
You are right . U.S. models avoided any direct injection in Toyota models. Only Lexus. Our fuel quality is very bad in the United States
Beautiful video review
Great review .Thank you!
So would a base model or other trim have a softer ride?
+Pickle312 Yes, base and limited won't have the sportier, dampers.
What year did they put the ladder frames underneath the RAV4s I think it's 2018 or 2019
It's always been a unibody SUV
You mentioned you didn't like the LED headlights on the Rav4 - specifically being washed out in snow. Did you have the same experience with the CX-5's LED headlights being washed out as well?
+Henry Kan Color temp on CX5 is warmer. Output is similar.
Interesting...thx for the info.
Great thorough review. What is the DSLR mount on the windshield?
+Terry Torancis Khuu Fat Gecko 3
woah... is this top gear? dat editting tho
Daniel H that English though
I'm making fun of stereotypical internet speech.
SavageGoose for President!
So is over-dampening a suspension making it softer or firmer?
+Bana Nana firmer
+savagegeese thanks
For those of you who have driven both the 13-15 as well as the 16-18. How is the hwy noise? I just bought a 2015 and I am very surprised by how much wind noise you get over 40 mph. I drove a Scion XB before this and the wind noise was so well handled. I cannot believe they let this car be so so loud, nearly drowning out the radio.
It’s not much better at all. Definitely a weak spot
+savagegeese do you guys only get customer cars to review or press cars aswell?
+Blake Swan only do press cars right now.
I'm curious out of all compact SUVs you pretty much reviewed all of them except for CRV. Really looking forward to seeing your review on that car, unless it is too boring to review of course :)
does it have paddle shiftier?
I believe Jaguar has a similar exterior color. They call it caviar. Could you please share which cars exceeded your expectations on the rough pavement section?
+BrokenFiddles 15 Genesis, Sorento, RC, RX, CX-5
Aloha
I would love to see a review of the 2017 Escape
very good review. thank you for lifting and showing comparisons.
Great review as always. Never considered a Rav4 before, might at least look when I am ready.
Can you make a review for the new refreshed 2016 Toyota Avalon please?
+ghosts12333 Avalon is coming but will be Hybrid trim
