Many non-latinos don't seem to understand that latinos/latinas come in ALL colors not just the stereotypical moreno or brown skinned ones. Some Latinas look African, some look Asian and many are white. Latin Ameica is a melting pot of different cultures, races and ethnicities.

Well the same applies to people not understanding that Caucasians are not all blonde-haired and blue-eyed and that “white” does not mean “white American”. Caucasians can also have darker skin colour/olive like people from the Mediterranean, and the eye and hair colour are very diverse
I really respect the Dominican woman, she kept it 100% real about her country’s history/issues regarding racial stigma.
I always thought that DR was considered the country of "black Latinos," so still having white standards is kinda odd. Need to look it up more.
@@brucenatelee Yeah, not at all. Like there is no way you can guess that a person is Dominican just by the looks itself (if you are not one yourself) We go from "black" to "white" in terms of ethnicity by looks, because of the mix we have with people from Spain, France, Jamaica and the US when they invade our country, for reference we have people that look like the Brazilian girl, but I would say that Heidi is pretty much the standard (if her hair pattern was a tiny bit curlier). Hope that helps a little
@@brucenatelee Yeah from an outside view that is what a lot of people think but there is also a problem in Dominican Republic of being looked down upon the darker your skin is. So a lot of the dark skinned Dominicans are seen as lesser than. A lot of people also don’t like the Haitians even though the island is shared by the two countries.

@@brucenatelee Not at all, most of Dominican are mixed (white and black), and white Dominicans and black Dominicans are minorities but noticeable. So a Dominican can be either white, black or mixed (like the girl in the video), but yea the beatuy standard is still looking more European but in the last years most of Dominican are embracing their curly hair (Not all Dominicans have curly hair though).
As a Brazilian, I'm very proud of Ana Paula. She is very beautiful and very Inteligent. I love see the videos with her.

The girl from The Dominican Republic is speaking the truth. I live in the United States but I'm from the Dominican Republic as well and I know exactly what she is speaking about. The curly, coily hair was a "No Go"for many years. That is now changing and curly haired girls and women can love and embrace their natural hair freely. I didn't have that growing up in DR many, many years ago. I struggled big time with my hair. It was long, thick, curly and my only choice in those years was to chemically relax it.
That's how it was for me and my family too. People in the DR love the straight hair look. So when I met my husband and he told my mom that my natural hair looks better, it was a new chapter in my life for my hair. Now I keep it natural

I think that it's not only the koreans that think so. I'm mexican and I'm caucasian, almost blond I guess, and when I lived in Europe no one believed me when I said I came from Mexico. They always wanted to se some dark skinned short man with a moustache lol. The world needs to know that there's a lot of ethnic variety in latin america.

The Dominican girl made him feel very comfortable, he was seen to relax while chatting with her. She was very warm, even raising his expectations with just a couple of words, when he asked if he was passing in the country as a man. The Caribbean people are quite hospitable, cheerful, positive and warm, a worthy representation of their country and the region.😊

If you're from DR and truly want to have a chance to go to South Korea on the webpage of the Korean Embassy you'll find some programs they have (mostly for students). I have a neighbor that went there and is actually living in Korea (She is Loving it)

Just a reminder that Dominica and Dominican Republic are two different places in the Caribbean. Dominica is an island in the Lesser Antilles, Windward Islands, lower down the archipelago, below Guadeloupe and above Martinique. Dominican Republic is in the greater Antilles and, as the wonderful woman said, shares the island with Haiti, together the island is called Hispanola.
