FYI, the newer SmartThings Multipurpose Sensors have a garage door mode where it uses the built in tilt sensor to detect when it is open rather than the contact sensor. To set it up, go to the device in the app and tap the 3 dot menu at the top right and select settings. From there tap "Use on garage door", select yes, and then tap ok. Then just mount the large part of the sensor near the top on the garage door and you are good to go. No need to mount the magnet.
@@explosiveenterprises1479 Mine hasn't given me any issues. Do you have a zigbee repeater nearby? Is the battery running low? Pretty much all of the issues that I've had with devices are because it's not getting a good signal or its battery is almost dead.

Good on you sir!
great vid Brian! One thing about samsungs multi sensor is that in the settings you can switch it to "use on a garage door". This turns it into a tilt sensor. I use this on all four of my garage doors.
Solid work my friend. Solid thumbs up. I watched the whole thing, then went back and watched more parts again. This is an important video for people to see to help them get off of those paid monitoring services. I do not like those. At all. This is a step in the right direction. Great video, and thank you.
@@AutomateYourLife do you know if ST keeps device states on the hub or are they still storing states on their cloud? I know they executed actions locally, but they were still storing the device states on the cloud. Have they fixed that? (I haven't plugged mine back in to check in a while)
Definitely the 1st channel I watch every time I get a chance. Subscribed to as many home automation channels as possible even HomeKit for reference and motivational purposes but I’ve found yours to be the best every time. Keep up the excellent work.
I'd like to set up some sort of proximity sensor that I can put on my dog's collar that will alert me when she is at the back door. Suggestions? We are moving to a new home and it will be more difficult to hear the hanging bells that we taught her to ring when she wants to go out. (When she wants back in she scratches at the door which is not ideal.) We just purchased a doggie doorbell that she can press with her nose to launch a chime. It hasn't arrived yet, but we will try to switch her to that at the new place. A tag on her collar that activates a chime when she gets within a foot or so of the backdoor would be a better solution. Even where we live now, if I am working in my basement office, I cannot hear her if she wants back in, so while I work, I need to keep an eye on the camera that watches the back door. I'm hopeful we can successfully transition her to tapping the doggie doorbell when she wants in or out.
I think the doggie doorbell training is a great idea. Most of the proximity sensors won't work well outdoors in the elements and while you could try to hide them away, I feel like reliability would be bad. I'd probably combine a camera that can detect animals with your doggie door chime. Maybe with that you can also trigger a contact sensor that can also act as a switch. You'd have to do a bit of wiring. The other idea I have for you is this. It's similar to the contact sensor and it uses the same idea, but you could make it like a pad your pup will walk on: ua-cam.com/video/tIjc7PaJi1I/v-deo.html
@@AutomateYourLife Thanks for the feedback. Our 5-year-old beagle took to the hanging bells pretty quickly. Our hope is the change to the new home, in addition to switching to the doggie doorbell, won't be too much all at once for her. The doggie doorbell just arrived so maybe I'll try some preemptive training before we move in 2.5 weeks.
Thank you for the full walk through It was long, but there is a lot of good information here. I like the Samsung Vision sensor. I can see it as being a good replacement for motion sensors to be honest. I would call it sensor more than a camera though. I know it grabs images, but they are not really recognizable as images like a normal camera. Definitely a great option to prevent false positives though.
Brian, I was sad to learn that you have left SmartThings/Aeotec. I purchased a number of leak and open/close sensors last year. I'm still happy with my purchase but ran into an alarm setting problem. I'm doing a complete system backtrack and will watch this "A Home Security System With NO FEES! || FULL DIY SmartThings Tutorial" and other videos that you have recommended. Anyway, thanks for all your videos. Don
Hi thanks for the video!!! Many times I miss notifications, do you have a tip on how to set notifications louder and longer? When I don't hear them they are useless. Thanks
Regarding the notifications on the Samsung Smarthing Home Monitor Solutions, is that a bell or does the phone ring with an automated message? I'm concerned that I'll be asleep in case of a brake in. How will I get notified in case of a brake in?
I'd get a Siren or some other speaker that can be used with the system to make sure you get an audible notification. There are a few Z-Wave or Zigbee Sirens available today that work with SmartThings :)
I love Wyze, and am not the biggest fan of SmartThings, but I would second Brian here and say, yes, a million times over. You can do sooooooooo much more with SmartThings than you can with Wyze. aaand, you can use IFTTT to integrate Wyze with SmartThings if you really want to.
Silly question, what happens if the burglars manage to a/ Take out the houses power system b/Come in the house with a wifi inhibittor (taking out all wifi communication). I would really think a propper robust system will have a plan B functionality running on 12V battery in a safe, with a monster alarm in that safe with sound holes. Apart from all the fancy connectivity tech I doubt is really robust.
LOL... Well, stick a UPS on your hub and you're good to go. As for the other stuff...you can connect the V3 hub to ethernet so WiFi inhibitor doesn't do a ton there. No camera though. Not a lot of people I see walking around with those breaking into homes. I suppose they could go Ocean's 11 and EMP blast your home too...
Thanks for a great video. Just two things that concern me : 1. Can the wifi be jammed? What would be the solution for that? Maybe I am missing something? 2. As far as I know the samsung items require a log in to the samsung servers - I hate that for privacy reasons and much prefer a completely autonomous system.
Any wireless signal can be jammed, yes. That includes installed systems from makers like ADT which use Z Wave just like many products here. And good luck on #2! Pretty much anything requires a login today!
1 second ago I don’t have the best internet where I live. I just want to set up a local home security network but not hooked up to the cloud for privacy reasons. I’m not a tech savvy person so I need an easy system, haha. Any suggestions? I’d just need door/window sensors with an alarm or notification hub or something of that sort to announce things at night. Thanks so much!
With the mix of what you're asking for I would suggest that you look at Samsung SmartThings or hubitat. The latter is actually the better choice for your scenario but it is more technically difficult at times
SmartThings does have a component of the information going to Samsung but I have never been alarmed personally by the data they have and you can request to see the data that they have at any time and they will send it to you. It's not a lot of data and it doesn't seem to be personally identifiable for the most part
Thank you SO much for the information! I’m definitely going to research both! I have echo dots and I use Alexa guard but recently was told that I shouldn’t? I’m not sure if there’s truth behind that or not?! Truly…thank you!
Yet another great video, Brian. You put a lot of work into this. I have one concern about the V3 and that's that it doesn't have batteries like the V2 which will continue to monitor some things even when the power is out...unless that has changed. Samsung has been pretty elusive about exactly what works and what doesn't on batteries. Consider sometime doing a video about using a Samsung multipurpose sensor on doors using the magnet and again without the magnet, using vibration???
There are some wired sensor options for sure. Watch our motion sensor comparison videos. You can just go to the channel page and search for motion. There's a few
I’m pausing here at the 37 minute mark because something popped in to my head. I have not used actiontiles so question 1 is can you with one purchase of AT run it on multiple tablets? And question 2 is could you turn AT into your keypad for your ST home security system instead of using your phone or a button controller? The video is great, but I know if I wait to the end I will lose the question I wanted to ask. Keep up the great work Brian.
Of course at the 55 minute mark you answered question 2. So all that’s left is can 1AT account run on multiple tablets, or do you need to buy a license per tablet?
Ahahhaha, I do try to be thorough! You're good on the other tablets and even (Alexa) Smart Displays. They display on all of those and I haven't needed to get a second account or anything.
Long video, but I'm sure I will references throughout my life :-). 2 things... 1. You said your security automatically arms and disarms. I currently only get the notification to everyone has left and it doesn't automatically arm / disarm. I guess I'll have to look into how to make this automated. 2. Contact sensor for garage door. My current issue is if the door is already open, let's say I have a check at 8:00 p.m. to tell me where the garage door is open. If already open it does not notify me but if it opens from shut after 8:00 p.m. it notifies me. Have you had this issue?
To have my Smart Home Monitor Security arm when everyone is away, I made an automation that arms when my home enters away mode and disarms when it enters one of my home modes. When it enters my bedtime mode, then it arms in the "stay" configuration.
Hi, the response delay option in the security system is for both armed and disarm ? I mean, when I enter the house can I have 1 minute delay before the siren will start so I can disarm my system? And also, when I arm the system, it will wait 1 minute and then arm it?
I have a Smartthing hub and movement Sensor at the front door, as well as a Wyze cam looking out the front door walkway, and I have IFTTT & Google Assistant accounts. How can I set an automation where if the front door Smartthings sensor senses movement, automatically have the Wyze cam video displayed to my Google hub display as well as my LG TV Chromecast if possible? Been trying to figure out a way and can’t do it. Maybe this veteran is too old and obviously not technically inclined enough... ))) thank you for the assistance.
Sorry if you say it in the video as I'm just starting to rewatch it & I think I already asked you but does smart things work with Google assistant or is it just through Samsung? I believe they are Samsung products & which do you prefer Samsung smart things, Google, Wyze, & zigbee or whatever that one is called? Sorry I'm still debating & trying to decide which to go with & getting ready to do my own smart home security system. So I guess which do you prefer or even if you prefer certain products from each company? & Do any besides the Google products work with Google assistant/Google hub? I mainly use Google so that's why I'm leaning towards Google. But I used to be all about Samsung & esp Samsung Galaxy products. But now I have the Google pixel XL 4 & the Google pixel slate plus the nest hub max & a few nest mini's which I started with my tablet & basic stuff to set up & turn my older but still nice tv into a smart TV in my room bc I got a new bigger & super nice smart TV for my living room. But now I'm really getting into turning my house into a smart home & am looking at various products & really want to put up cameras & do security along with all the other cool stuff like light bulbs, plugs, sensors, cameras, & just all sorts of fun things coming out now as well as the Google speaker. I might go the cheaper way with sensors & cameras & go with wize but curious if smart things are around the same price or quite a bit more expensive? Sorry for probably repeating myself & I'm going to make lists & prices plus which works with Google. I know Wyze doesn't but the app can still work with my pixel so if the price is really right it's not a big deal at least to start with. Also I don't know a lot about zigbee too so curious if them & smart things are around the same price as smart things or which is the cheapest & which you prefer for the price. I know the Google cameras are probably way better but of course will cost a lot more. Thank you for all your great videos & helping me turn my house into the future & a smart home! I love your videos & info & always watch you first & most vs any other tech channels bc you aren't biased, your honest, & you like Google & Alexia stuff & don't make it sound like apple is the only option & I only eat apples! Lol sorry so long & probably confusing & thanks again for such simple & great advice!
Hi Pirate! So to answer what I can here. Samsung and Google do integrate but it's basically one way. Samsung -> Google. Routines in Google don't YET allow you to do much to make the integration really powerful. Stay tuned there. I prefer Google just for voice control really. It's a voice interface for the specialty situations. Samsung runs my everyday and my normal lifestyle. :) And Apple isn't much of an option, yet! Did I catch everything you needed? OH...Wyze. Wyze doesn't have great integration with either yet, and the prices for Nest Outdoor cameras have come down quite a bit. Maybe have a look aftermarket too...there are deals to be had. And soon, Nest will integrate with SmartThings and Google reallllllllllly well.
Thanks Brian, from a loyal follower in Warsaw, Poland, SmartThings is my preferred hub as well and works just fine :). Cool to see you review the stuff I use as well, like the Aeotec sensors and doorbell.
Thanks for the Video! Sorry for the intrusion, I am interested in your opinion. Have you ever tried - Mahorrla Defence Wisdom Method (Have a quick look on google cant remember the place now)? It is an awesome one of a kind guide for securing your home from danger without the hard work. Ive heard some incredible things about it and my m8 at very last got amazing success with it.
Was wondering how you would recommend setting up smartthings alexa and Google. We have been using alexa for many years now. Would you recommend integrating everything into st and then to voice? Or keep all the devices integrated in voice and also st?
In general, I take most of my home into ST and use Voice control (with either Alexa/Google) to handle the oddball moments. ST is for actual automation, voice for the rest. :)
Is there a system, DIY specifically, which would not only detect motion in certain areas but also triangulate through multiple sensors where is the person, which room, and where in the room, and show it on a map/layout of the house? This has to be doable, it shouldn't be much complicated.
Amazing video! Quick question about the action tiles on the fire HD. Can you get action tiles on an Amazon show and do the same thing with an Amazon show?
My main hub is on a UPS, yes. I'd get about a day on the UPS, cause...if the power's out for that long...we have bigger issues. Internet goes down, I lose knowledge of the security system's status but it still works. That means things like cameras, sirens, etc., all still work.
Elephant in the room, not sure about the US but for my house the Wifi comes in by the front door in a little box, snip of the cable and the internet is cut, any alerts are useless. course most robberies don't happen like this but as things move forward this is something that people will start doing
A lot of phone lines are like that too so even traditional systems can be compromised. If you want it to be serious you could have a 4G backup system. My ISP provides a modem that has 4G backup if the fixed line service fails. This is backup for both internet and landline. That avoids the snipping cable issue completely. The backup is no extra cost either. It comes as part of the basic service.
Thanks for all the info you provide. I just ordered a smart things kit but have found I can not order any sensors for it like a water leak. I'm confused will there be no more sensors for this? Thanks

Hi 1st of all thanks for making whole videos, not just 10min videos to keep us hanging. Ur tutorials are amazing. 2nd .... i have google nest hub. I have to setup home security system. Should i go for samsung smart things now ? Or any other device in 2022/2023. I do use samsung smart tv and phone. So which hub would u suggest now coz ur video is 2yr old but it would be kind if you could suggest
If you're using Samsung phones and smart tvs, the SmartThings hub is a great fit. The security is still basically the same too as this video shows, so I think it would work well for you! And thanks for the kudos!
What is the purpose of putting tons of videos for the smarttings sensors and all the link are for used parts, I keep checking amazon all the time waiting for the new sensors to be available but no luck, I have the 3rd version hup, but without thier sensors, I think I will move to Aqara system or so at least all sensors all the time are available
@@AutomateYourLife I got your point and many thanks to you, But for me and what I mean it is useless for me watching videos talking about something cheap and should be easy to get but unfurnatly I can't, although I like your videos alot and I agree it is full of informations.
Great Vid!.. My question is off topic,. Do ant of my fellow automators know of a battery base for the Nest mini? I can find them for the home mini but the nest has been elusive.
Great video, unfortunately I'm still feeling tied to my rogers system because of the disconnect between google and smartthings.🙄 I have a nest doorbell and a wyze camera that can't be linked into smartthings, I have smartthings sensors that can't be tied into google, my garage door opener can't be tied in either....I would prefer to get a couple of nest outdoor cameras because I already have the doorbell and a subscription would cover all of them but I don't want to go ahead with the divide between companies. Can you tell google and samsung that they need to get their acts together?? 😁😷
So far what I've seen is just cloud integration (which requires internet to work) for WiFi plugs. I haven't tried any sensors, but Samsung doesn't have their own brand for that, so I'd assume it's cloud only there.
You mentioned Hue integration. Is their a way to access Hue Scenes in SmartThings? What I would like to do is get 3 various bulbs to turn red if something is triggered, however it seems as though I have to set each bulb individually. I was hoping to be able to trigger a scene or at a minimum set all the bulb colors at once rather than have to do it individually.
So sadly, not without a pretty good workaround like IFTTT or another connected app. I'd expect things like this to be possible through Google/Amazon integration as well if you want to play since they bring in the scenes from Hue!
It is possible with the "Hue B Smart" smart app found here (community.smartthings.com/t/updated-jan-2019-hue-b-smart-groups-scenes-remove-popcorn-effect/95397). If you use this, you will have to first disconnect your Hue hub from SmartThings and then connect through the Hue B Smart app. One major downside currently is that if you try to open a bulb or group in the new SmartThings app, it will crash and reboot the app. Opening a scene works fine. So does using the bulbs, groups, and scenes in automatons. In order to open the bulbs and groups within SmartThings you will need to use the Classic SmartThings app for now. They might fix it in the future, but no guarantees there.
Can I make that google assistant speaks or that it say something on my nest mini speaker when the smarthings door sensor is open?...or setting an alarm on my phone, not just a notification when this happens?. I don't know how to do that.
Hey Brian great video. My issue is a subscription fee maybe cheaper than replacing the batteries as often as I have to. I have Samsung smartthing s devices which I am constantly changing batteries.
So, this does happen and it can be expensive. However, usually if batteries are running out consistently then it's likely you're not having great connectivity. There's a tool in the IDE that can help you diagnose issues: ua-cam.com/video/nzi3jJG2_mY/v-deo.html
Great video. I’ve just committed to smartthings after buying various brands of wifi based cheap lights. One question that I can’t find an answer for though is how to trigger a google routine from a smartthings trigger such as a motion detector or button. Is this possible? Thanks again.
Hey Robert, thanks! So today, you can't. That's why you can't find it. However, you miiiiiiight wanna watch this: ua-cam.com/video/pTNJGH8pnUo/v-deo.html
I think you might find that with SmartThings, you probably won't be using so many Google Home Routines. Almost all of those routines can be moved onto SmartThings as an automation. A little something to look forward to, for ya!
Automate Your Life Thanks mate. I can’t wait. I also jumped on to Patreon and signed up. Just the basic contribution at the moment I’m afraid but will increase it if I can. Hi from Australia 🇦🇺
Why are these hubs so hard to find now it seems like Best Buy and amazon don’t really carry them anymore? This this is still the best hub or is there better hub options now?
I know this is a old video you may not reply. But could this be done with a amazon echo which has a built in alexa hub for zigbee operators. And if so could you do a video on it?
Great video, saw quite a lot of them right now on your channel on how to automate your life..however most of the devices/ systems are designed to function in North America rather than Europe. Any tips/ recommendations what kind of systems/ brands can be used over here?
This system actually works really well in Europe! In fact, Aeotec is based in Europe and is coming out with a whole lineup of gear just for SmartThings! I think you will find them available very soon in Europe, and that you'll find a lot of great gear for your home.
One of the weak spot in all of these custom systems is Cellular Backup. How can I get alerts from these systems if my internet goes down? I have a pre-paid SIM from T-Mobile for voice dialing or text. Or may be use Freedom Pop solution with free small amount of data.
You're right in that it can be a weak spot, but you can have phones with cell service in the home or tablets that can then relay the information out. Tasker is a great simple program for that (Android).
so what if you have a load speakers connected to the alarm system and you were gone for a long period of a time and the speakers needs to be charged in order to maintain operation, such as Bose, can i keep it plugged into the power, or would that kills the battery ?
@@AutomateYourLife thanks for your quick reply, i was trying to use the same method as you had your speakers connected in this video, and if i needed to maintain the power in the speakers i have to keep them plugged in to the charger when i'm gone for awhile , would you recommend that ?
It's not discontinued (which I think is what you meant). Just buy the Aeotec version of the SmartThings Hub! geni.us/AeotecSmartThingsHub (Amazon affiliate link)
Hi Brian great video, I’m tempted to try this out but surely if the power fails or an intruder manages to disconnect your power then isn’t the alarm useless?
Most of the sensor devices are battery powered, and if you put a battery backup on your hub, you'd maintain a system in your home. Something like a Siren would then be a form of protection. You'll have to check what happens to your ISP when power goes out, but I think you could get around that too! Most of those services remain online these days in power outages to homes, but again you need the router/modem to remain online.
@@AutomateYourLife That makes sense how would you disarm the alarm if the power goes down assuming no internet? I would guess you could use a z-wave key fob as Smartphone access wouldn’t work, but would that all work locally? Thanks again.
You can still connect to the app through wifi if the internet is down and your phone is on wifi. I do most of it by local presence, but I am hoping your Internet doesn't go down very often!!!
Power and internet is pretty reliable but before I invest in this idea I just wanted to check it wouldn’t be disabled in a power cut and I could still access the system. But it sounds like if I get a backup power supply it should work really well, thanks again for your help and a great channel 😁
So no, you can't get those cameras to save you the sub you're paying for. However, you could use SmartThings cameras (like the Aeotec 360) and not pay any sub
Hey, It looks like you have had this system up and running for a year. Are you still happy with it? What drawbacks have you discovered? I want to know everything before I decide to purchase. Is there a way to hardwire some of the devices so that you do not have to change the batteries?
2-3 years actually. Yeah, you can buy some power/battery sensors to minimize your battery changes. Things like motion sensors, leak sensors. I don't really care that much. Other drawbacks are hard to put in a single comment, but you have to work a bit to get it 100% reliable and it takes some time to figure some things out. That's why I built my channel and all the guides on here for SmartThings!
Bought a Samsung speaker. I can play an audio message as part of the security system, but when I select the bells/dogs barking/fire alarm, they don't work =S so confusing !
Not sure there...I've used a few other speakers and devices though to get different sounds like that. This one's pretty good: ua-cam.com/video/z6qh6_BoC1o/v-deo.html
Great video!! I set up my phone to automatically arm and disarm my security system when I arrive and leave from home but the app doesn't show the option for me to do the same with my child on my phone. Even though the app shows my child as a member. Do I need to set that opinion up on the child's phone?
@@AutomateYourLife thanks for the reply! Do you have a video or information on how to set them up as a presence monitor? I have already done the invite
I don't think you need to upgrade Tony! Stick with the V2! There's really no good reason to switch and you get all the same features. PS. I'm running both in my home at the moment. :)
So actually...right now it looks like a bad link. What I've seen before is that it will be a V3 with the words V2. They do sell it but the actual link must be out of stock right now in Canada George. Try Samsung.com then.
Hi, how are you? Is there any motion sensors that will alert only if it identify human ? I want to use motion sensors for security , but at night, sometimes cats or other animals can cause a motion and I dont want the siren or alerts to be sent, and I want to receive alerts and turn the siren on when a human is detected. Is there such a motion sensor?

LOL your wife must be not letting you speak or maybe the kids LMAO you said a lot of important things I find that I ended up using SmartThings and she Who Shall Not Be Named to run sensors and light bulbs! And plugins. I'm very happy. You created one of the most interesting knowledgeable piece of of information on UA-cam. If you paid for that class it'd be worth probably least one credit hour of $300 American. Thank you again my friend behave and stay safe
@@AutomateYourLife in all honesty I think I made a mistake using she Who Shall Not Be Named as a hub because each time I want to upgrade the speakers I will have to reconnect all the sensors and lights and put them back in routines that's the way it appears to me! But it's taking a while because everything I have is Studios and I have one of the good screens it's got the camera you can put items in front of and you can tell you what you're holding and if you get barcodes in right place in can tell you how long it should be put in the microwave and and reorder things. So such as life don't party too much in Canada! And remember happy wife leads to happy life
WiFi doesn't matter to the internal security system (ZigBee/Z-Wave connected devices taking part), so that all works. What wouldn't work is the notification to you that an event occurred. WiFi issues would obviously take down cameras that operate on WiFi.
@@AutomateYourLife the cheapest price I have found is 642 Danish kroner or US $ 100. Half the price you said. The price without 25% Danish sales tax would be $ 80

With a camera, you're going to have to look at your laws! Not something I can advise on. Maybe just adjust them and show the feed though so your neighbor calms down?
This stuff is so easy to do yourself, I'd suggest you try it! The hardest thing is the hub and learning the app...which your have to learn anyways after they leave :)
Samsung has the data, but you can request erasing of it whenever you'd like. They basically keep a log of events to display in the app. I don't know their internal use cases, but the data I've received when requesting it is very minimal.
@@AutomateYourLife do you know if ST keeps device states on the hub or are they still storing states on their cloud?
I know they executed actions locally, but they were still storing the device states on the cloud.
Have they fixed that? (I haven't plugged mine back in to check in a while)
Might have been almost a whole hour video but definitely worth every minute. As always Brian, an excellent insight video.

Very detailed and helpful tutorial. We thank you for all that you do!
Thank you for watching and for saying this!
I hear ya Brendan! I hear ya. Maybe I'm swimming against the stream on this one. :)

@@AutomateYourLife Thanks man!😎🤘 THIS IS IT!!!😁🤩🙌 YOU'RE AMAZING😎🤘😉👍😁🤩🙌
Thanks for this break down!!
Great thorough video!
In your opinion, does the features paired with the additional cost of this system justify using Samsung over a wyze system?
Oh gosh yes
I love Wyze, and am not the biggest fan of SmartThings, but I would second Brian here and say, yes, a million times over.
You can do sooooooooo much more with SmartThings than you can with Wyze.
aaand, you can use IFTTT to integrate Wyze with SmartThings if you really want to.
Great video ! Just brought my first house and this gives me ideas to keep my hole safe!
This is great to hear, and a great way to get started securing a home!
keep that hole safe at all costs😄

Hi there, how does your SmartThings alarm system know that you are away? Does it track cell phones or do you need to arm it on the app?
You can choose either, and it can handle multiple smartphones!
The geofencing assumes all household members carry their phones when they leave and that it is them returning when their phones return right?
Correct. You can do it in other ways. Buttons, etc.
The Hubs are hard to find nov I am in Canada can't ind one under 300 for that I can get a Ring alarm and still have money in my pocket
Yep, here's why: ua-cam.com/video/z0hbszcIz-0/v-deo.html
Alot of automation inspiration out of thia video, watched every second. Thanks alot Brian
Wow! Thank you for doing that! That helps us more than you know!
Thanks for a great video. Just two things that concern me :

I don’t have the best internet where I live.
I did put a lot of work into this! Thanks for noticing.
Oh I use both right now. That's an easy one...but what do we call that video Hugh!?
Do the motion sensors come in wired versions? My house is under construction so I can make provisions to avoid changing batteries all day long
There are some wired sensor options for sure. Watch our motion sensor comparison videos. You can just go to the channel page and search for motion. There's a few
I have that same Keypad 4:16 ADT Pulse. Can you connect that to Samsung Smart Things?
Not that I've ever seen Philly. Sorry.

So on 1, yep it's in there!
2. No! I just get a notice on that one anytime it opens personally. So I'm not trying it that way....
To have my Smart Home Monitor Security arm when everyone is away, I made an automation that arms when my home enters away mode and disarms when it enters one of my home modes. When it enters my bedtime mode, then it arms in the "stay" configuration.
Sorry I'll watch this soon but I have to ask: Does this setup automatically call police or fire etc? That's what I'm paying monthly fee for. Thanks.
No it does not automatically call. That's part of the DIY component. :)
@@AutomateYourLife Thanks. So it can? Does this video cover that part :)?
No it can't do that without something like the ADT service that can be purchased. But that's even a specialized device set
ASKING THE RIGHT QUESTION.
Hi,
the response delay option in the security system is for both armed and disarm ?
I mean, when I enter the house can I have 1 minute delay before the siren will start so I can disarm my system?
And also, when I arm the system, it will wait 1 minute and then arm it?
You can do both!
You can't cause the triggering of the display. That's the problem, and it's not you Yves. :(
thanks for the quick response!
And Apple isn't much of an option, yet!
Nice comprehensive video Brian. You covered a lot of ground. Great job!
Thanks sir!
Thanks Brian, from a loyal follower in Warsaw, Poland, SmartThings is my preferred hub as well and works just fine :). Cool to see you review the stuff I use as well, like the Aeotec sensors and doorbell.
Amazing we can chat from Canada to Poland in a matter of minutes...and enjoy the same tech in our homes. Crazy times we live in! Thanks!
Use a presence sensor! These weren't available when I made this video. :)
Amazing video! Quick question about the action tiles on the fire HD. Can you get action tiles on an Amazon show and do the same thing with an Amazon show?
Absolutely you can. Good catch Shaun!
Do you run your SmartThings hub behind a UPS? It seems like currently you are vulnerable under power loss conditions. Also, if internet goes down?
My main hub is on a UPS, yes. I'd get about a day on the UPS, cause...if the power's out for that long...we have bigger issues.
Internet goes down, I lose knowledge of the security system's status but it still works. That means things like cameras, sirens, etc., all still work.
Elephant in the room, not sure about the US but for my house the Wifi comes in by the front door in a little box, snip of the cable and the internet is cut, any alerts are useless.
course most robberies don't happen like this but as things move forward this is something that people will start doing
Who chose that design for an essential service??? 😮
PS stay tuned for a video on 5G
A lot of phone lines are like that too so even traditional systems can be compromised. If you want it to be serious you could have a 4G backup system. My ISP provides a modem that has 4G backup if the fixed line service fails. This is backup for both internet and landline. That avoids the snipping cable issue completely. The backup is no extra cost either. It comes as part of the basic service.
Thanks for all the info you provide. I just ordered a smart things kit but have found I can not order any sensors for it like a water leak. I'm confused will there be no more sensors for this? Thanks

If you're using Samsung phones and smart tvs, the SmartThings hub is a great fit. The security is still basically the same too as this video shows, so I think it would work well for you!
And thanks for the kudos!
The newest hub is called Aeotec Smartthings hub
What is the purpose of putting tons of videos for the smarttings sensors and all the link are for used parts, I keep checking amazon all the time waiting for the new sensors to be available but no luck,

I want a system not tied to any company that data mines for marketing or whatever. Google has no respect for privacy.

Not one that I've found, but if you use ActionTiles, you can arm/disarm with a pincode protected button!
does any wi-fi smart(like plug or sensor) work without internet in smartthings or just zigbee ones ? thanks
So far what I've seen is just cloud integration (which requires internet to work) for WiFi plugs. I haven't tried any sensors, but Samsung doesn't have their own brand for that, so I'd assume it's cloud only there.
@@AutomateYourLife thank you
You mentioned Hue integration.
@@AutomateYourLife Thanks. It is my main annoyance with ST.
That's an interesting one. Thanks Derakkon!
Can I make that google assistant speaks or that it say something on my nest mini speaker when the smarthings door sensor is open?...or setting an alarm on my phone, not just a notification when this happens?. I don't know how to do that.
Sadly, not today. This should become possible soon Juan...but Google still doesn't have triggers available. You could do this with Alexa however.
Can this setup be run off an amazon hub , like a ahow? I have lots invested into smart devices already.
No, but you can use Amazon Guard and Amazon Guard Plus with devices attached to Alexa :)
Great video. I’ve just committed to smartthings after buying various brands of wifi based cheap lights. One question that I can’t find an answer for though is how to trigger a google routine from a smartthings trigger such as a motion detector or button. Is this possible? Thanks again.
Hey Robert, thanks! So today, you can't. That's why you can't find it. However, you miiiiiiight wanna watch this: ua-cam.com/video/pTNJGH8pnUo/v-deo.html

Sooooo I don't know your setup here or what you're working with...so it's kinda hard for me to answer!
@@AutomateYourLife thanks for your quick reply, i was trying to use the same method as you had your speakers connected in this video, and if i needed to maintain the power in the speakers i have to keep them plugged in to the charger when i'm gone for awhile , would you recommend that ?

Can u make a video for setting up for outside the home?
You mean a security system?
@@AutomateYourLife yes
👍👍
Noob here... will this work fully with google home to where I don't set up anything through ST? Thx
Nope, you need the ST hub!
I have Nest door bell and flood light google camera. Connected to paid subscription £6 a month. This system can help and save some money?
So no, you can't get those cameras to save you the sub you're paying for. However, you could use SmartThings cameras (like the Aeotec 360) and not pay any sub
@@AutomateYourLife thanks mate! Keep up the good work 👍🏽 your video’s are very helpful.

Have a look at Aeotec's. That's the one I've used, but it does take its own custom device handler. amzn.to/3jESFE5 (Amazon affiliate link)
Yeahhh, so you've got to invite them in and set them up in the SmartThings app so that their phone is a presence monitor too!
@@AutomateYourLife thanks for the reply! Do you have a video or information on how to set them up as a presence monitor? I have already done the invite
Hey this helped alot good job
So happy to hear that! Go forward and automate Tek!
@@AutomateYourLife Thank ya sir
Is there a way to migrate a V2 hub to a V3 hub. That's the only thing putting me off the upgrade at the moment?
I don't think you need to upgrade Tony! Stick with the V2! There's really no good reason to switch and you get all the same features.
PS. I'm running both in my home at the moment. :)
@@AutomateYourLife thank you :)
Hey,
How can I change my country/region in my Samsung account?
That's one I haven't figured out yet!
Very high quality video
Thanks Quinton!
Got a question... How can I backup my project if the internet ISP goes off?
I think you mean how would you get the signal out right? You can get a backup sim card with some routers and systems now
@@AutomateYourLife yes. In case of a power outage or internet failure...
@@AutomateYourLife that's the only way I thought it would work but implies another subscription...
V3 not available in Canada?
Might just be out of stock at the moment. Link not working?
Once you're on Amazon, try just searching a bit. I usually find a V2 labelled one that actually sends a V3
Automate Your Life link brings me to v2 unit
So actually...right now it looks like a bad link. What I've seen before is that it will be a V3 with the words V2. They do sell it but the actual link must be out of stock right now in Canada George. Try Samsung.com then.
The pricing of $200 from those sellers is a joke. It'll come back and by the way, this model on the listing: GP-U999SJVLGDB is a V3. :)
Hey Nir! ua-cam.com/video/kJVKzByspn0/v-deo.html
Some cameras do this as well right?
@@AutomateYourLife but I have wyze and it's not connected to smartthings
First thing today you said a mouthful!
Someday, I'll ask people to pay for that class Beryl! Thank you!
And remember happy wife leads to happy life
There are positives and negatives to your choice! I think it's still a good one you made, and FYI there is no migration tool with ST either!!
@@AutomateYourLife yep bet she does works quicker in my home. I think the smartthings hubs works slower. Might be the construction
Brian knows when someone is rifling through his closet looking for his cool t-shirts. Lol
I sure do!!!
hands OFF the shirts! lol
Where is the link to the Sensative Leak detector? Is it worth $25 more than Samsung's leak detector?
Yeah, it is! Quite a bit more. geni.us/E33jQ (Amazon affiliate link)
What happens when SmartThings goes down for whatever reason or if at certain times of the day some sensors are not reachable due to WiFii issues?
WiFi doesn't matter to the internal security system (ZigBee/Z-Wave connected devices taking part), so that all works. What wouldn't work is the notification to you that an event occurred.
WiFi issues would obviously take down cameras that operate on WiFi.
Webcore integration? Any inside news?
Nothing yet from the inside, but...hold 😃
3:46 :points accusingly: Canadian, Canadian!! - Rut oh, that was my outside voice, huh? My apologies.
LOL! I AM CANADIAN!
Annoyingly, I can't seem to use Google's own speakers to say aloud alerts or sirens. Anyone got any ideas on how to do this?
You can't at the moment David. :(
Smartthings vision here in Denmark the price is around $110
Oh my!!! Is that Euros??
@@AutomateYourLife the cheapest price I have found is 642 Danish kroner or US $ 100. Half the price you said. The price without 25% Danish sales tax would be $ 80
Wowwwwww
A full smartthings indepth walkthrough ??? Let me go get some popcorn! Dude since I got that refrigerator , i went NUTS with smart things equipment! I'm at 83 diffrent smartthings components alone! Not to mention all the tuya , wyze , amazon , and Google stuff I got.... I'm gonna test that 240 node z-wave limit!
Ahahahahhaa! You're gonna hit max in no time, which is nothing but exciting as far as I'm concerned!
If you can run a home like that, you can set up anyone's home confidently!
But what if they use a jammer ?
Well then depending on what frequencies they jam, it's going to be tough. This would be the same as an installed security system though, as those use Z Wave and you can use Z Wave here
Does this call 911 or alert your phone?
It alerts my phone!
How do you avoid a system like this if a neighbour objects to it if they believe it's an intrusion of their privacy?
What do you mean by avoid?
@@AutomateYourLife my neighbour is complaining about them as he claims they are invading his privacy. The ones at the back he claims overlooks his garden and the ones on the side his drive. They do a bit. How do I avoid a lawsuit?
With a camera, you're going to have to look at your laws! Not something I can advise on. Maybe just adjust them and show the feed though so your neighbor calms down?
Why do you use smarthings and not hubitat
I have Hubitat and it's great, but ST just gives me more options for connectivity and I think in terms of a future platform it holds more value.
Paying a company to monitor your home is a waste of money. But I’m willing to pay a company or someone to install it.
This stuff is so easy to do yourself, I'd suggest you try it! The hardest thing is the hub and learning the app...which your have to learn anyways after they leave :)
Just bought then returned a Samsung smart tag. It was not so smart. I’m a pass on Samsung smart things.
Your smoke sensors
Smartthings or hubitat?
ST Pedro. :)
I agree with Brian. SmartThings!
Amazingly helpful, great job!
Happy to hear it Michael!
What kind of privacy can you expect from such a system?
Samsung has the data, but you can request erasing of it whenever you'd like. They basically keep a log of events to display in the app. I don't know their internal use cases, but the data I've received when requesting it is very minimal.
Holy crap that hub is definitely not cheap anymore
It fluctuates a bit more now. Some people take advantage of lower amounts available in the market.
Wow, contact sensors have a very special place in your life.
You're missing out!
