I think having a spare set of sheets is useful because a lot of the time the laundry machines are all being used since there arent many in a dorm building (at least at uconn). I also used my printer a lot. Some classes require you to print certain assignments. If you didnt have a printer you'd have to pay to print in the library. My roommates and I would just split the cost of the ink.
lol when I was in college I used my Netflix and Hulu all the time, I would watch an episode when I ate or when I was doing homework, what I think she means is you don't have time to like binge like you would during the summer ya know?
I brought a toaster to school! it was the best decision and I used it every day. They're not allowed in dorm rooms so if we had room checks or knew our RA was coming we would just hide it in a drawer or closet. I would bring a toaster! really convenient if you want to make sandwiches if you don't have time to go to the dining hall or for having toast or a bagel in the morning before class!!
This is so helpful! I just feel like adding in this: I recommend doing research on what type of school you're going to (does it have a large campus? are classes far apart?) before you decide to bring a bike or not. For example, at UC Davis, it is really helpful to have a bike.
Honestly I disagree with many things like cooking supplies, extra sheets, tupperware, printer (I’m an early childhood/childhood ed major we need to print), the electric kettle (especially when you are sick for tea), I also used my office supplies all the time and were extremely handy for so many projects
Also think about if your campus is super hilly! I’m going to a school that is pretty hilly and some people ride bikes, but I am weak lol so I’m gonna leave the bike at home first semester and see if I want it second semester :)
@@molk7447 A clothing rack isn’t a bad idea, even with the dryers since they tend to take about double the time of most washers. Some items also will not dry fully in one load through the dryer. Some schools also charge for both the washer and dryer so if yours does, it could be a great way to save money (mine did not charge us for laundry)
As an alternative to a tv/Netflix account, I'd recommend seeing if any library's in your area rent movies. Where I live it's only 10$ for a year long membership and you can rent as many movies as you want, when you have time
I brought a crockpot and it changed my life on days when it was raining really bad, if you’re sick, etc. If your dorm doesn’t have a dining hall, I totally recommend bringing one.
I ended up using a lot of things I didn't think I'd use, I bought more last semester (started spring 2019) and I'm actually really happy. Being an Illustration major with a Psych and Complexity Science minor, dear god I wish I had a printer, too many 1 am runs across campus to the library when it closes at 1:15, total nightmare. My roommate/best friend died too many times. All my friends who were at different colleges for Fall 2018 told me I also needed so much storage, but my dorms are a bit bigger than average even for freshman because my campus spans across 3 towns, so we had the space. I took so much back it wasn't even funny
Our dorm allowed FDA approved appliances, my roommate and I used my double induction cook top & toaster oven every single day. Would highly recommend!! I did cook all of my meals because I didn’t have a meal plan, so I also had a sharp knife that I used quite often lol
I personally do use my toaster oven a lot at my house so it depends on how much you use your toaster oven before you go to college and what appliances use the most personally I actually use the toaster oven more than the microwave that’s just my preference though so I guess you kind of should choose between like which appliances you use more than others.
I wound up ordering those reusable ziplock bags. They take up less space than tupperware, and I would keep one in my backpack so that I could take baked goods from the dining hall. I did that pretty frequently as desserts were what the dining hall did best and it was nice to have a snack later when studying.
It’s funny cause a lot of these things are necessities for me. Cause my friends cook all the time together, and we had movie nights all the time. My recommendation is just play by ear for most stuff. Bring only a small amount of stuff and get or bring more stuff as the year goes on and as you need it
Something that would be a really good idea is to get a drying mat. Whats nice about this is you can fold it up and put it away. I use a drying mat all the time.
The sheet thing I think by reading some of the comments varies for a lot of people depending on how strong your period is and how particular you are about materials and how warm you wanna be in the winter versus the summer and how much time you spend on your bed.
I'm really thankful you said extra sheets weren't needed, I don't have the money to buy all my stuff and was stressing over it this video came at the right moment, I think I'll just find a nice comforter set and get 1 extra sheet
Advice from an italian:if you have to cook pasta you have to put hot water in the pot and put the lid on the pot, the water will boil in 10 minutes, as soon as it boils put the pasta in the pot and as soon as it starts to boil again wait 10 minutes and the pasta will be ready
Love the energy and I know this is from her personal experience but from my personal experience most of this advice is so wrong. Just remember every campus/dorm is different. The best advice is to buy essentials for living (one set of dish wear, toiletries, sheets, etc.) then buy once you see the need for something. Plus, people are really good about sharing in time of need.
My recommendation when it comes to a printer is that if you have an average smaller sized dorm the only place to put it is one your desk which takes up most of the space. If you have a larger dorm with more space feel free!!
I love your videos! I watch you all the way from Anchorage, Alaska and your back to school videos give me inspiration to redo my room even though I live at home and go to college 5 minutes away from my house lol!
i did the same,- going to school at home, and then ended up moving into a dorm my junior year. It was covered by scholarship, so I decided to get a different experience and move in. By that time i was getting into the newest dorm on campus. Plus, I could eat at home any time I wanted to and always take my laundry home! I ate on campus a good bit because there were always places for me to be.
I cook a fair bit on campus but I'm in a campus apartment so it's easier because we get an oven, microwave and a full fridge in our kitchen (plus a little pantry) provided. My school doesn't have buffet style dining halls. They're more like the dining area at a hospital where you get the food from the various stations and go through a checkout line where each item gets added to the bill individually. There are actually named businesses that have stations (like pizza hut, Denny's, Tim Horton's, etc.) so you're paying their prices. The school does have their own stations but they charge pretty high too (think $6 salad, $3 thing of fruit and not of the size where that's reasonable). We do have swipes on our meal plan but each swipe is only worth $7, you can pay the difference with another swipe (but it's still $7 so unless your total is close to $14 you don't want to do that) or with cash, credit, or "dining dollars". I personally average about $9 for a meal in the dining halls (unless you get meal deal items where they lower the price to be just a swipe, but that isn't the good food). And the food is still not that great. Like it wouldn't be worth that in real life. I cook for as many meals as I can. I also use my Netflix a fair bit, but then again I have the family plan and my parents have profiles on it (I'm the one paying, my mom wanted me to do that and I was young and said yes...) And I set up a profile for my friends so we can watch stuff together which is probably the profile that gets used the most.
The bike thing depends on the campus really. There were a TON of bikes on my campus, including mine, and I saw people riding their bikes all the time. It’s great if you don’t have a car on campus, plus if you’re running late for class you can cut the walk to class in half by biking there
So weird that ya'll have to bring your own microwave and fridge. My brother had to do that 30 years ago, but the school provided us a microfridge in our dorms in the 90s. I thought more dorms were moving to the kitchenette/suite format. I know every school is different though. I have started watching these college videos because my niece is about to start college and started her own channel. Following her led to my finding all the other college vlogs. So many things I see people packing for college I think they need to wait on because once they get to a room, they will find out what specifics will work. As well, there are things you can share between roommates, suitemates, or hallmates - like the vacuum. If you are not too far from home, you can get things from home during fall break or over Christmas break if you realize there are things you wish you had.
Hide it in a bin when you are not using it because they do room checks during vacations and breaks (at least at my school) and they cannot go through your stuff.
this is funny because the first thing I asked for for graduation presents was cooking supplies because I planned on using it in college and then wherever I moved after
Hey love you Keegan your amazing and beautiful and generous!❤️❤️❤️ Please do a day in my life do we can see what your do preparing for college!😆❤️love you

I was in a single room and there were 45 people on my floor, you make friends with lots of people on the floor and from other floors. In college it really is up to you to make your own friends because even if you have a roommate doesn’t make that person an automatic friend. I had a friend where here and her roommate was just cordial but they had complete separate lives from each other and the only thing they did together was share a room. So especially if you’re going random, be prepared to not be the best of friends with your roommate. And honestly, the best part of college is going out and meeting new people so take advantage of it
Depending on the length of classes, could you just clean your sheets while you're at class and then dry them after class or during a break? Or is that not normally possible in college?
It depends on the person’s class schedule. I have a class and then I have five minutes after that class to get to my other class. So it really depends on the schedule.

I have 3 years until I go to college (university) however I enjoy organizing everything now because when the time comes I can just easily order and buy the things I need especially just buying little things during the next 3 years so my final shop isn't so expensive and heartbreaking (the price TT)

I disagree on the blanket sheets. If you are a girl you could wake up one morning with blood on it. Also I disagree with the mini fridge. I think you should get mini fridge if it has a top and a bottom.
disagree about 2 sets of sheets, at least if you’re a girl (we all have those days where you wake up and there’s a blood stain in your bed)
