Amazing achievement by Team New Zealand. Winning against the odds dogged by huge financial problems. Not only out-thinking and out-innovating the competition, they out-sailed Team Oracle in the finals. Magnificent!

Intellect, creativity, talent and teamwork won over money and arrogance. You can't buy success, but you can create it. Was a bliss to watch Burling, Tuke and Ashby doing their magic - just loved the hook in race 8. Congrats to a great team and nation from Old Europe.

I've wondered for years why we don't take advantage of the grinders' leg muscles rather than their arms. It's a common sense move that I think will catch on quickly.

should have email the team and suggested it like i did in October 2015, got an invite to private tour of the team base with Dan for my trouble in march 2017 just before they shipped the boat to Bermuda. amazing experience.
you also get to cheer for "your own boat".

You'll be the wonderboys of this competion no matter how they change the rules. Stay with your kiwi ingenuity and you'll get there.. maybe by not much , but you will. I'll bet my 15yr old Omega watch on it. I see you even have the Aussie's on your side. Good on them.. They know when they have a traitor Lol

boat speed, boat speed, boat speed. Great Job to ETNZ. Aussie's should make an interesting challenge in 2021. This is from an American. Nice to be back to winning on the water. Congrats.

the defender has so advantage in the the way the whole regatta is set up. all teams fighting to win the chance to battle for the actual America's cup can only have one boat and present in month ago while the defender can build two boats, watch the other teams race, learn from their designs and develop their boats right up to the America's cup racing. if team nz show the advantages of using pedels early on there is no doubt Oracle will have bikes on their boat bythe start of the America's cup racing.

Chris Rodwell it's unlikely teamnz will be fast enough to beat oracle

okanui okanui who would have guessed. Don't worry oracle will copy our boat and make a come back over the 5 days off which is why they have them days.

    • @okanui
      @okanui 7 років тому +6

they will have to be significantly faster than us to win. even if they have parity and close racing, we still have our best weapon up our sleeve ... hydraulic pressure. in a tacking duel we will be able to throw so many more tacks in that they will run out, or their grinders will get to exhausted ... thats my bet :)

I truly hope the best sailing wins out. However you did not mention the lawyers you need to fight all the manuevers the defender tries to throw at the event to tilt the event in their favour!

Oracle may develop the designs they pirate from other contenders for they sure have the time to do so, as they watch other contenders race. But one thing they don't have a hope in hell of copying, are the kiwis that are in the waka.

Can someone explain to me what the "grinders" are doing? I guess they are setting the sails to the exact best trim because of constant variations of wind?
I am not a sailor, just sort of learning about it via youtube

There is nothing to redeem. There was one mistake. Letting the foiling cat out of the bag too early. If that one thing had been delayed a month or so, ETNZ would have won.

Oracle's main advantage will probably be the same as last time. Cheating, money and Spithills big bloody mouth.

  • @robinpatterson2972

any team can WIN when they cheat. it has been proven that ORACALE CHEATED to win that last cup. How sad and small can a team be. Oh Well.

Such a pity that "sailors" are now speaking managerese and are physically worn out and too old for this kind of watersport by the time they're 40.
Accepted the fact that this is the pinnacle of wind powered craft over water, it is so far from everyday sailing and so terribly technical that, now the novelty has worn off, it has lost its initial interest.
Not even the very young sailors can be fooled long enough to believe that this is the future of mainstream sailing.
So much so that many are turning their backs to foiling (they will try it for the fun) to stick with more affordable classes that are widespread and are a true challenge worldwide.
Just like the "old" AC shared rules with club sailing and match racing and you could dream even on on a Laser, this has now all been alienated.
Its just a matter of time - if it isn't already the case - to see these athletes be disqualified for illegal substances supposed to enhance their physical form. Pity.
Amazing videos though of what can be achieved with wind power.
