ayan ajk not really, an exercise like this teaches beginning swimmers how to balance and manuever their bodies in the Water, so important when jumping into deep Water from a feet first vertical Jump and once you reach the top You need to position your body to the horizontal position so you can start to swim to the side of the pool. This is done by moving your legs behind you and start to flutter kick, once you start to flutter kick your legs will start to go toward the surface and aid you in getting your body in the horizontal position to start the crawl stroke. After you Jump in vertical in the deep end you just dont want to stay there and tread water you will get tired. It takes some effort to position your body to horizontal after jumping in vertical so one way to feel comfortable doing this is to do this simple exercise: sit at the edge of the pool, you can do this in shallow end 4 to 5 feet deep, and just fall in the pool face down, stretch out to float then like you are going to recover but instead dont let your feet touch the bottom of the pool and simply from there stretch out to a back float then back to the front float and so on. This exercise will teach you treading, balance, body control, work muscles that You need to use to help you go horizontal from a vertical feet first dive and develop confidence and help you feel comfortable in the Water. Learning to swim is about feeling comfortable in the Water, not mastering certain strokes.

Thanks! I really needed this explanation. I thought I was doing something wrong when water got up my nose when I tried to flip over onto my back!
