    Hi, thank you for your reply. The PT used it at 1mhz, for 4-5 mins it’s at .7 or .6 and 20%. It definitely caused some stinging/burning sensation but it wasn’t unbearable. Do you think there will be any tissue damage?

    For metal implant it's under precaution so it's means you cannot apply directly over the metal implant it is right? Please enlightened me. Thank you.

      Metal implant is a precaution. So whether or not you can apply over metal is determined by the depth of the metal and the parameters you use for ultrasound. The most important factor is to ensure that you are not using thermal ultrasound directly over the metal since the metal will conduct heat much faster than human tissue which can lead to patient injury. You can use low energy-non-thermal ultrasound in the area of metal because there is an expectation that the tissues will not change temperature. We hope that is helpful. Thanks for watching.

    I had 2 sessions of ultrasound of 5 mins for ankle sprain within 4 days, so 10 mins in 4 days- can this bring more damage, soften the tissue, the muscle? Thanks

      We can't comment on anything specific to your circumstances, however ultrasound is frequently used during the acute phase of an ankle sprain to help promote healing and shouldn't contribute to any further tissue damage if applied correctly.

    Hi, Why it is contraindicated in acute inflammation? Thanks

    • @physicaltherapyeducationso4585
      @physicaltherapyeducationso4585  3 місяці тому +1

      Thermal ultrasound is contraindicated with acute inflammation because increased temperatures will lead to a greater inflammatory response which in turn leads to more swelling and pain. Therefore we only do non-thermal ultrasound in acute situations. We hope that is helpful.

      @@physicaltherapyeducationso4585 Thanks a lot. But all other modalities like electrotherapy, laser therapy, magnetic therapy, shock wave, ect they also basically increase the blood circulation, so why they are not contraindicated in acute inflamation?

      @@physicaltherapyeducationso4585 How to know if the knee osteoarthritis pain is considered acute inflammation or not? Or if we have back pain due to spinal disc herniation, how to know wheter it is acute inflamation? In cervical spondylosis neck pain, how to know if there is acute inflamation?

    Hi, I had ultrasound therapy today for a facial injury on my cheekbone. The PT had it set in 1mhz and I have heard that frequency should only be used in the body. It caused a burning/stinging uncomfortable sensation. He only did it for 4 minutes per side. Could this cause any tissue damage or fat loss?

    • @physicaltherapyeducationso4585
      @physicaltherapyeducationso4585  Рік тому

      Ultrasound uses a variety of parameters for each treatment, 1MHz may be fine depending on how the other parameters are adjusted. It is the combination of all of the parameters that determines the intensity of the treatment, however you should always communicate any unusual or uncomfortable sensations with your PT. Best of luck.

    Can ultrasound treatment break down or soften scar tissue?

    • @physicaltherapyeducationso4585
      @physicaltherapyeducationso4585  Рік тому

      There is some research that indicates using ultrasound with thermal effects can increase the extensibility of connective tissue, including scar tissue. The ultrasound in and off itself may have little impact on breaking down scar tissue, however there is a period immediately after the treatment that the scar may be more pliable which can improve the effects of other treatments designed to improve the mobility of the scar such as manual techniques and stretching.
