I am a technician for CNC Machines where troubleshooting is very important. This is one reason why I found your skills very important and extremely good. The way you make analyzes of the problem is amazing. Congratulations again.
I have this deck. The ATC feature is auto tape calibration. It would automatically adjust the bias, equalization and playback levels for blank cassettes
Nice find and fix. I am here because the unit I just got has what I think to be stretched or worn belts since the cassette starts out fine, but after about ten seconds slows down in a steadily worse manner. Deck one worse than two. So was selfishly hoping you were going into a teardown of that. Not sure it is worth the trouble as like anyone my age, continually forget to press the CLOSE DOOR button - frustrating!
I would recommend replacing the belts anyway. It might also be a case of lubrication of the motor bearings. No longer have the unit so can't do a tear down. Sorry.
Grazie ancora . Saluti da Cefalù...... Rosario.
I am watching this video for a second time and, let me say, it was worth. This man does a fantastic trouble shooting. My Deck # 2 door is not opening. I found the problem is in that sprocket gear covered by the printed board at the back of the mechanism. If I turn that gear with my finger, the door will open. I didn't see how to remove the printed board. How can that board be removed ?
I didn't have to remove the boards in the one I repaired so I would suggest making a drawing of the board and things connected to it and the screws, then undo things bit by bit. you have to unsolder the motor connections. Have a look at the manual, Page 12 Ref 11 and you'll see the procedure.
Hello! Thanks for the video! I have a RS TR 373, so TR575's younger brother. I am fascinate that these models have all the same mechanism. I bought it for 40 euros. Optically highly cared. The rollers of Cabstan have renewed them with some new Panasonic. I renewed the transmission belt at both gears. Playback heads look perfect, are not worn, so I only have them demagnetized. In principle, the decks work as new ones. One problem that is not yet resolved. Deck B (Recorder) The cassette lift works perfectly without cassette. As soon as I put a cassette closes, then try to open but only a few millimeters, then close again. Some kind of looping. After a while, it works normally. I have to say that I have a few new Cassette from Amazon, TDK that is anything else, but TDK is not! China quality. The housing is poorly worked. But the Deck makes this scene with older Cassette not so intense. After a longer operating time, the mistake disappears. Are the electrical capacitors on the platinum of the Deck B mechanism? Or what else could it be? The fact that after a time the Deck works normally makes me confused ... Do you have an idea?
I can only guess that the mechanism may require lubrication with something like Moly grease, not oil or aerosol lubricant. You need to dismantle and clean bearings and pinions. I doubt the capacitors are related to the problem. Hope this helps.
I've just finished working on an RS-BX501 single deck. It was interesting to note that this deck uses the exact same mechanism (obviously there's two of them here though). Thanks for the entertaining video sir.
Hi! Thansk for the video. I have the same Technics RS-TR575, but deck 1 and 2 dose. not work.I recently finished listening to a cassette, but then I finished only one side, and I didn't start side B, I was stuck there. And now I can't play any cassette on any deck. From what I see, the head is not in a parallel position to the deck, in the same direction as the tape, it is at about 35 degrees. But it doesn't return to its normal position, and when trying to play the tape, it makes a noise like KNOCK KNOCK and then nothing happens, do you know what it could be? Or how to solve it? Thank you!
I recently got same player. ATM both doors operate, the drive for deck 1 changes speed, especially for a 90min cassette so think belt is stretched, but these push button doors may be next issue as I cannot remember to use the button and not manually close it!
Hi there really interesting video. Thank you. I have a Technics rs ch 550 twin cassette player and after using the high speed tape to tape function deck 2 now does not play or record. The tape doesn't turn. I can hear the belts turning when I press play or high speed record, but then switches off. This was confirmed when I took the top off. The belts both turn/engage but then stop. Now I am stuck what to do. Maybe high speed dubbing after many years was just too much for it. (it was bought used). Any suggestions please? Also the same deck 2 door is slightly ajar on the top left hand side when open and in closed position. Would a piece be broken off? Thank you great uploads. Where are you based? Regards
@chylogurti Hi, thanks for the feedback on the video. I would suspect that the mechanism has not fully returned to the default stop position. If there is a main CAM that turns the MODE SWITCH, which in turn tells the microprocessor where the mechanism position is, it could be that the CAM and or gears have jammed, got sticky grease or worse, a broken cog, so the micro does not know what position the mech is in. I would have to see it to be sure so can only guess. I'm in Chinnor, Oxfordshire, UK so if you want me to have a look at it, please email me via the link on the channel home page.
Hello, I need your help, I have an SR T575 cassette deck. when I try to rewind the cassette it will automatically jump in fast forward on both side same thing happen when I try to play the left side direction. please guide me. if possible you I can share the video.
I have this same deck and it seems to mechanically function fine but when I play cassettes, there is no audio output, and the meter does not light up. Any idea what could cause this? It happens on both decks. This deck has sat for many years with no use so I utilized your instructions/steps to take it apart to make cleaning it alot easier. Great video. Subscribed
Hi. Sounds like it could be a supply rail to the PB circuit. Maybe a dried up capacitor. I think you can get a schematic off the web and then use a multimeter to check the supply rails.
Hi Michael. On this deck, the tape movement on both supply and take-up reels is monitored by an opto-coupler, sensing the change in light on reflective parts of the reel hubs. If these are dirty, then it could be the opt-couplers are not sensing reel motions correctly. However, they also tell the uPC that how long the tape has been in motion and it can calculate the tape length and remaining tape. If these sensors are not working, then the tape counter function will not be working correctly and could be erratic. Try using an air line to blow out any dust or dirt from the mechs. Is it the same on both decks? Does the tape counter appear to work OK?
My double deck stereo cassette has faults, could you help me with Tape 2 I can't hear anything in fact everything works fine in its mechanism and the indicator LEDs do not show audio on Tape 2 On Tape 1 it is not recording well, it only records in mono even though the LED indicators show in both channels when playing what was recorded, it only gives Mono if I place any cassette, both channels are heard but when recording and playing it only mono right channel and not It does not erase well either and it sounds as if the heads were dirty I clarify at the time of recording and play it sounds as if the rca cables were false and the recording is faint low volume I have tried to record only on the left channel and it gives a signal but lower it only turns on 2 audio led, the right channel re-recording is heard louder 4 audio indicator led turns on.
This is an amazing video.
His troubleshooting skills is just amazing. I like to see people working intelligently.
Congrats
Many thanks, 40 years of practice pays dividends, though sadly not all the bills 😀😀

I used to this same deck back in the early eighties! Wow very nice deck back in the hey day!
Indeed, that's why I like repairing them. Have fixed several since this video.

Man this is the same exact problem I have, with the same model and the same deck! Just wondering if you managed to figure this out?
Would be nice if we could move that fast in real time! Nice fix!!
Yes it would and thanks, :)
Good Job! Thanks!

Yes it was an entertaining repair, just caught me out not checking the deck position before beginning repair.

At a guess, I would suspect the drive belts are stretching so the mechanism cannot complete its correct operation.
No doubt some impatient person had a habit of jamming the Door closed...
It happens, that's why us repairers stay in business :)

I have an issue with mine, the sound goes deep and you can hear the tweeters as much, but I can't see it chewing any tape.
Sounds like worn or dirty heads.
@@ChasLarge thanks for getting back, i clean the head regularly so it must be something else.
I hate motorized doors and drawers. they are slow and painfully fragile after a few years.

Check the wiring to the head on deck 2, one of the connections may have become detached.
