Hi Ma'am! You literally made me fall for T.S Eliot, earlier I was so afraid to read his poetries, but now It's so soothing and disturbing at once....What could be better than when you make your fear ( T.S Eliot's poetries) your friend. I will always be grateful to you, Ma'am! ❤
This lecture is wonderful ma'am. It feels like I'm attending a class in the university. Today I got your video for the first time and watching one by one.
Thank you mam !! For the video.. I find Eliot is putting forth the facts of how a busy urban life influences an individual , alieanating them from the actual pleasures of life and delving themselves just into the rush and chaos , the image of the impatient horse might be interpreted as the impatient being of every individual in the urbanized metropolitan city when everybody is just too impatient and running blindly with the groups , it projects that the people in the modern world aren't absolutely conscious of what they are actually doing , they are away from self .... in a way I find the poem is really strong and fascinating portraying the images which links to the very sordity of modern lifestyle.
Hi! Great analysis - rare to find usually. One thing I'd like to point out is that Eliot is writing some parts of the poem in the context of England's and America's slums. This makes sense because America saw a sort of Communist uprising during the 1930s (The "Red Decade") due to the exploitation of the proletariat class. Another fun thing to notice in the "Preludes" is that it contrasts singular actions to regular actions. E.g., the "gusty showers" pluralizes to "the showers heat". This shows an aura of monotony due to habitual actions of the undifferentiated mass of slum dwellers can be seen. It is also why the woman that is introduced in "You" is appreciated so much, she is different than rest of the slum people that have no thoughts of their own.
As Eliot tends to invoke epistemic horror (e.g. "after such knowledge, what forgiveness?"), the fact that Goethe, who pretty much started the Things Man Was Not Meant To Know cosmic horror genre with Faust, had a color system where yellow was the closest primary color to pure light, the color of happy sunflowers and buttercups, with the power to inspire people to become happier, more peaceful, and even excited about the past, present, and future events that would transpire throughout the day. But, here's it's associated with physical pain, pain that requires the foot be worked on with both soiled hands.
This is a very beautiful lecture about Modernist poetry.. Personally and Objectively ✍💖 with some matured subjective sense for a Better understanding 👏 Thank you Mam
