The Wildwood Tramcar Dance

- Have you ever wondered how the Wildwood boardwalk Tram cars charge up for the night?
It involves a carefully orchestrated dance of moving Tram Car in and out of the facilities so that they can charge.
As we’ve shown this past winter, there are different kinds of tram cars, and many different kinds of batteries.
In order to make sure the entire fleet is up and running multiple batteries are charged, but cars need to have the batteries switched out through the day.
Tram Car maintenance crew does this by removing some trains off the boardwalk and exchanging it with a tram that is freshly charged.
As far as we know, no one else has documented this dance of switching cars until now.

@@WildwoodVideoArchive once macks pizza closes game over till next spring. you should run for city council joey you are the one who can save wildwood. i miss the good old days lots of older folks tell us their crazy wild stories i wish it was the same with all the fights, the guidos, the crazy things under the boardwalk, the seasonal foreign workers sad to leave. it will never be like it was it can get better but the cops want to tame it down too much from the chaos that used to happen and turn it into more kid friendly like ocean city/seaside heights. it was thee beach for teens and young adults. you know its not as wild as it was

So before they would depot the tram cars on Hunts Pier, there was a garage behind the (former) miniature golf course on 23rd Ave, across the street from the motel owned by my aunt and uncle.
It’s why they built the 3rd concrete vehicular access ramp on 23rd to the boardwalk, as well as the concrete turnaround there too. Anyway, long story short, I remember many afternoons wandering over when the garage doors were open, and the guys in there showing me how they’d charge them, even let me drive one in the adjacent parking lot too (just the cab)

We got to see an engine swap for ourselves when we visited on Saturday. I’ve been coming up since I was a toddler in the Jurassic Age and had never experienced it before. 5:01
It is always cool to see the main cab switch out!
On a Megabus trip to NYC, our bus stopped at the NJ/NY border to switch drivers, but it wasn’t nearly as cool as this.

Shame old hunt’s pier is gone and they can’t store the trams somewhere else!
Believe they used to drive them off the boardwalk and park them in garage around
26th Street .Long narrow garage is located between the boardwalk and block wide parking lot. WATCH THE TRAM CAR PLEASE.

I ride the tramcar atl east once a summer at night. I used to get a big pizza from Sam's Pizza and sit in the back
