Hey folks, Unfortunately UA-cam compression ended up messing with a lot of the darker shadows etc, resulting in some of the footage looking a little blocky and gross. Not a lot I can do about that, aside from assuring you that the game looks a lot nicer in-game than it does here. Attempted 2-3 uploads/file type exports, all have resulted in similar compression. Also apologies for the voiceover sounding a little blah, I was super ill throughout most of November so it's not my best.
Tried this game myself some time ago. I absolutely loved the idea of driving through the night in an old car, saving otherworldly creatures. But the world seemed extremely emply. Sure, the main character recalls someting when you visit some abandoned places, even (SPOILER ALERT) mentions a gentlemen (do not remember the name) who lives in a rusty lodge somewhere near the train, and even one of the endings leads you to his house, but we have absolutely no information who he was, what their relationships were like, etc. So what we have is a big beautiful empty area with buggy roads and almost nothing to find. I think, the game that specializes on exploring the world should have made it more immersive. By the way, map and compass are my favourite mechanics in the game. Thanks for your review, Ghosts!
Thank you for watching! Yeah I considered touching on the endings, but they’re fairly inconsequential unless you’re super invested in the game’s story.
Honestly, Id still like to play this. Reminds me a lot of What Lives Below, a cool monster hunt game releasing soon I tried to hype up in a recent video. Such mood in this one. Good call on Troll Hunter comparison, exactly what I was thinking
I find the idea of this game and its universe really captivating - the idea that rather than blowing these gigantic creatures to smithereens, your job is to dissuade them from coming too close to human civilisation in order to preserve them (presumably) is kinda awesome. It's a shame about the game's shortcomings in the graphical and gameplay loop departments; sure seems like there was/is the intention of fleshing it out more and I hope the dev does come through with other more fully realised games in the universe/significant updates. Shame about the UA-cam compression too but unfortunately that's a beast that can't be warded off, seemingly. 😑 Still a wonderful review! Always savour getting to sit down with a coffee and just listen to you talk about games. The pacing and tone of your work is always so on point too. It's also clear you don't want to just rip the game apart and you can see the vision of its creator. ☺ Also, Christine!?!? lmao interesting name choice for the car...
Thanks Henitto! Another thoughtful comment as always you wonderful bean :) Gonna plug your Far: Lone Sails review here because it’s so dang good! ua-cam.com/video/Isw_gz_W_6E/v-deo.html
Good review. Audio was okay, and you came off more in the "I'm disappointed it didn't fully hit it's stride" camp then the "This was a waste of my time" one. The gameplay reminded me a bit of Kona, which I enjoyed despite some mild bugginess and a few "oh yeah this is a video game" immersion breaking moments.
Thanks for watching man - glad the intended point of view came across. I need to play Kona, it kinda flew past me a few months back and I completely forgot to look into it further haha
Nice review, felt like it was pretty fair with how the game turned out. If the developer makes another game in this universe maybe we'll get an answer to the games biggest mystery... Why name the car Christine?
Maybe follows the same rules as sea-vessels, all are “female” cause they have “something inside” that they “birth” once they “doc”. Sounds insane until you research it.
Hey man - the intro track is from the official Titan Chaser OST, titled 'KOMA - Quarantine Beat 7'. Here's a link; ua-cam.com/video/fHhpKWUDc40/v-deo.html
