Hi Scott, as my ON1 go to Guru, I thought I'd ask you this question regarding searching in ON1 2024. In ON1 2023 there was an Advanced Search feature that really did let you search for anything and I got used to using that to see which photos in a folder I hadn't edited. This was useful for either workflow (to see what I still had to work on) or to cull images I decided I didn't wany any more. While the search bar in 2024 is good and I can search for any kind of edits I have applied, I can't see any option to search for images I haven't edited yet, or am I missing something? I know I can work around this by searching for edited images, marking them say 5 stars, and then searching for images with less than 5 stars. But it just seems odd that ON1 seems to have omitted a 'Not Equal To' search option. Thanks
That's a Metadata search. Choose "Edited" from the list of metadata options, and *within* that list is second "Edited" entry - a global "are edits present" property. Match with a rule of "is not True".
@@ScottDavenport Scott, once again you are an absolute star. I was expecting to find that search in the attribute section, but you're right, metadata does everything I wanted - Thank You !
Thanks for the very informative video. When I add text to say the Description or City fields in the EXIF data of a photo or if I add a star rating , does ON1 RAW 24 write that data to the file or to the catalogue or the side car file? Is there a way to make it write to the file?
Metadata is written to the catalog. If you have sidecar files turned on, the data is also written to the sidecar. For non-RAW file types, you can force data to be written into the file with Photo > Embed Metadata. RAW files will only allow a sidecar file to be written.
Great job Scott! Is there any way, when searching metadata, to find all photos that have not been put in an album yet? I have been stacking the search criteria: Album, does not contain, Album1; Album, does not contain, Album2..... etc. By the time I have stacked 10 or so Albums, I am running ot of room for the photogrid display. Something along the line of: Album, does not contain, * would be good?
No... a simple "Album is empty" search doesn't exist. You might get lucky with a metadata search using a "None of the following rules" and a single "Album contains 'e'". If all your albums have the letter 'e' in them... anything not in an album would show up. A hack, and not a reliable one.
@@ScottDavenport Thank you Scott - I have renamed all of my Albums, “Album - Album detail” then searched on Album does not contain “Album -“. When I am done sorting I will rename them all; but then I might just leave them in case I decide to sort in more archived photos later. Cheers!
After completing the search and showing a number of relative photos, I click on one and then choose edit function to no avail. The photo does not enlarge and let me begin editing. If I click on the symbol on lower left to switch to a single view it does not work. What is the solution?
Sadly, that sounds like a bug. I just did what you described in Photo RAW 2024.1 (macOS) and it all works fine from the search results. You'll need to raise this with ON1 (if you haven't already).
I put my entire photo collection (24k + images) in a catalog and ran keyword AI. I have thousands of waterfall pictures. When I run a keyword search for waterfall, it finds 11 images. Not ready for primetime. I love ON1 photo raw 2024, but the keyword AI is still lacking severely.
you do a great job of explaining things in a very straightforward approach.
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks for this explanation of the search tool! Very helpful!
Very welcome!
Great video with valuable information, thanks Scott!
My pleasure!

I feel the same way. Would love a tutorial on keyword AI app
