Great preview! It's a great flash cart. I always keep the NeoSD in slot 1 without any other games in the slots, so whether or not that can be addressed, that requirement is not really something new. The Samurai Shodown V Special decryption issue can be addressed by using the correctly decrypted rom on the NeoSD, so as you mentioned, that's not a Backbit-specific issue anyway. 😃
Was about to say. Kinda makes me wonder if this small goof up only applies to V Special/Perfect, or if other games have less noticeable issues due to bad dumps/encryption.
Yeah, I don’t have an issue with SSVS’s sound on the NeoSD Pro. The boot time on the cart has already been addressed too. Seems like really the only issue lingering might be what’s going on with the cart and the Z80 on a multislot board. All these board revisions make it tough to isolate problems sometimes.
Cool to see. I own a League Bowling MVS cart as well, but a previous Op changed the MVS case to a standard one without the holes for the link port and conveniently snapped off the connector! A pretty common issue I am told. It was awesome to see the two carts linked up for the first time. Thanks for that!
Sorry the Astro was in vertical but I didn’t feel it was necessary to rotate to prove the point. Sorry to hear about your cart, that sucks! I’ll have to watch for that, I don’t think I ever noticed shell swaps on the link games but that is interesting.
I’m a little rusty on the editing and the link portion of this video was 20min by itself. I ended up cutting a lot. My assumption always was that the port was for linking to AES on the SD Pro, as I’ve never been able to get it to work MVS to MVS. In fact, I tried it again immediately after having the Backbit up and functioning with the same settings. No go. The Backbit has a switch that allows it to flip between both AES and MVS when linking, and also features the dual ports for daisy chaining up to four cabs like an original.

Prices on Neo·Geo are always crazy, but as for the repro carts or multi-game ones, there's a high market for that just for the price.
Very cool product. Probably would be best to run this on a one slot board, especially for home use. I had no idea that there was a Shinobi port for Neo-Geo ! So cool!

Good question. It was definitely mono on the MV1C I did the capture on since that's JAMMA. The Backbit cart runs the MAME rom and on the 4-slot board, audio issues aside, I'd assume it would be stereo. I did not play that on the 4-slot however.
I've got a neo sd pro, even the largest game is only a few seconds to load into ram, unless you are loading into flash I've never seen a game take that long to load. 12:46. I thought the neo sd pro has the link port but I've never been able to test it.
Not sure what to say, I have the Neo SD Pro as well and that was my side by side. If the game is already stored it’s pretty instant but initial write times for the larger games do take a bit (comparatively). Not a deal breaker for me and I of course still love the Neo SD. As far as the link port goes, and I did mention in another comment the editing is admittedly a little rusty, but I’ve always assumed the link port on the Neo SD Pro was for AES connections (which I don’t have). Whereas on the Backbit you can flip it to behave like a true MVS cart and go MVS to MVS. Further, it has two ports like an original cart which allows daisy chaining up to four cabs, where the Neo SD only has that one connection. In short I was remarking that this is the only cart that is designed with that link port as originally intended on MVS carts. I did swap the Neo SD Pro in after I had the setup working with the Backbit and it was a no go. There’s really not much documentation on it and like I said, I’ve always assumed it was for AES unless it needs a specific ID or other setting configured. The Backbit was no issue though.
Great video. Regarding the audio issues on the 4 slot board maybe it's the unibios 4.0 ? I had issue (No audio) on my 2 slot's board when cartridge slot 1 unpopulated ( sent an email to razoola and he said that's a knowen v4.0 bug on multi slots boards)
Evie thinks it’s crashing the Z80 and for some reason it can’t recover until a hard reset is done. It’s being looked at. Good info on the UniBios v4.0, thanks for sharing that,
The Vortex Cart instantly loads. The demand of the 161 in 1 V3 carts had driven them up in price. All the chips changed and roms loaded in 1 all in one cart. The fastest multi you can get.
Yeah, another option. I think the last I’d seen they were about $350. Really nice instant load times. I think KoF 2K and Garou are modified for this cart though? You lose the ability to link and can’t add additional roms in the future (which is probably fine for most people). It’s interesting how each of these carts have a very clear pro/con list.
@@Jerome-CI think not in a long future we will get a vortex clone part1 and 2 with all library from aliexpress etc... Im not saying it will be cheap but a nice choice to had. I had only a aes and some games but i really miss thats 2 or 3 games that i love and dont have to play on real hardware.
@@Fullthrottlexpto cool hope so... and yes some AES games are soooo expensive... i've got Analog Pocket and Dock but i still prefere play on original hardware, don't know why .. probably it's mystic ^^
tbh, its a dealbreaker that its not staying in memory. I rather have the original NeoSD over this. If it stays in flash you can use it EXACTLY as an original cart.
Yeah it’s all personal preference. If you switch games often then this is probably more ideal. If you don’t care about that and want the behavior from a real cart perspective the NeoSD is the current path.
Pretty cool, and price could be a a big thing to people that don't have the SD pro cash. They knew who to go to to sell that look bowling link cable haha.
The cable I actually had to grab at BestBuy since I couldn't find mine. I think it was only $8 but yeah, not too many people buying male to male 3.5mm headphone cables in 10ft length.
$399 of also the FOMO price. It will be $499 after January 31st. I hate FOMO stuff to make you buy it now vs later and waiting to see hiw everything works with production hardware.
I get it. I also see the perspective of a small (in this case singular person) business trying to offset the expense and risk of a product. It’s like a $100 thank you for helping to get this off the ground, and also yes, taking a risk on an unfinished product.
Come on Joe, you need to warn us when you throw in a joke. “For the friends I don’t have”….. I nearly spat out my coffee. Get your backside to Australia and we will always share a brew. Thanks man, this looks so awesome. Not for me at the moment, I have the carts I want and there’s MiSTer for the rest, but it does look awesome.

It’s a great cart, today, for single slot. The problem with the Neo Geo is all the hardware revisions. So many different types of boards to try the cart on. I’m fairly confident the bugs will get worked out on this. It’s come a long way already.
Whichever way you try to do it, Mark of the Wolves seems to not emulate very well because of whatever security they have on the carts. It crashes with the Kim twins T.O.P. attacks and some minor graphics issues occur. Just gives you and excuse to own one of the best games from the 90s on a real cart 😎.
Good thing i cant even hear that pop even with the side by side lol. My senses are too dull, cant see shimmer or lag either lol, on the downside i also suck at games probably because my reflexes are trash lol😂😂
Aww, I’ll be your friend Joe. Let me know when League Bowling night is and I’ll drop buy with some beer. More seriously though, I’m in the same boat as you here… Already have a Neo SD Pro otherwise I’d jump on this. The port is a really cool feature, but the only game I’d likely play on it is league bowling 😕
I think this just gives you more flexibility to add clean roms, newer games that roms are available for, homebrew, utilities like the 240p Test Suite if you want, the link port option is there, etc. It’s just an option for people who want a little more than what the 161s can offer.
So it's not in 2025 that we'll see someone selling a product on Neo-Geo at a normal price. These people always have to display their venality with stratospheric prices aligned with the price of the latest new games released more than 20 years ago.
Without knowing the specifics of the hardware, cost of parts, and the time investment of a single person to develop this, I can’t begin to confidently say whether this is priced correctly or not. What I can say is that if I were talented enough to pull something like this together, I’d certainly offer it at a price that made it worth my time and efforts.
@@ScarletSprites The hardware parts of the cartridge do not exceed a total of $150. There is a gross margin of $250 per cartridge. There is no equivalent on other retro consoles. Neo-Geo fans are treated like cash cows.
I think you’re right regarding 2003. He might mean new as in games being made in the last five years. I don’t think NG Dev is selling their roms and I’m not sure how large they tout their recent titles to be. I know there are some others.

Good info on the UniBios v4.0, thanks for sharing that,
Very Good, maybe I get some.
I have the Neo Geo mvs after all
Getting a linked up League Bowling setup (maybe tourney) would be amazing to do at TMG 😉
Agreed, would be really fun in teams or even single player.
The vortex cart is unreachable, like the Darksoft !! and the 161in1 production have stop !! the price is growing because the stock is low !
Glad to have given a little levity to you today. I'll try to warn you next time!
This looks fantastic, hopefully the minor bugs can be worked out. One slot to store the recent game would be great for cab owners. I skipped the other flash carts as I couldn’t justify the price, this one is tempting however. I just need to fix my audio issues on my cmvs first!
Just gives you and excuse to own one of the best games from the 90s on a real cart 😎.
finally, a reasonable way to play Samurai Shodown V Special on my MVS board!
Loads fast too!
i told myself that the next time I could get one of these I would do what ever to get... paid for
This is the attitude everyone should have. Neo Geo is life. 😂
@ScarletSprites i just hope it's not the next Super Sega
Good thing i cant even hear that pop even with the side by side lol. My senses are too dull, cant see shimmer or lag either lol, on the downside i also suck at games probably because my reflexes are trash lol😂😂
That is definitely the curse of an aging gamer. I feel you on all of these.
I e pit of buying a flash cart since I have a MISTer but I think I’m gonna grab this.
Even though I have the MiSTer sitting right next to it, I find myself playing my consolized Neo Geo more lately.
I want an aes version of this.
Quite a few people asking for that already.
Just wondering if this is fully finished or a prototype??? Guessing it’s fully finished. Have you tried it in a 6 slot?????? 🎉
Kidding
😂 Just trying to be fair to Evie here. It’s a sneak peek Justin!
What do u have against turf masters?
Yeah, I have to think most people are going to roll with their SD Pros if they have them. New buyers have a decision to make.
@@lessimcdowell9897Neo Turf Masters doesn’t support linked cabinets, my dude… if it did I would be all over that.
@@mikegreiling oh so you’re primarily a co op player. Yeah I don’t even like golf but turf masters prob my fav game ever
How to talk dirty to scarlet sprite... Just say "it's fast"
You know what I like.
Will it play Neo Geo cd
Unfortunately not. I don’t know if that’s a future possibility or not yet.
@@ScarletSprites Keep in mind there is firmware flash option !!
Riding Hero rocks!
Always has its defenders 😂
Great video. Thank you. For me, I hope the retail carts are in black or smoke to match my black CMVS. Not a fan of the pastel shell.
I think you’re in luck 😂.
Seems just like a 161cart with sd card
Without the garbadge hack and with all the missing games and few homebrews
I think this just gives you more flexibility to add clean roms, newer games that roms are available for, homebrew, utilities like the 240p Test Suite if you want, the link port option is there, etc. It’s just an option for people who want a little more than what the 161s can offer.
GREAT VIDEO
Thanks for the 2-slot pic, I tried to give you credit for that. 😂
Love these sd carts, just wish I was able to afford them. I only have a Chinese knock off for my TG16.
They are definitely on the pricier side of things in the hobby.
`i think you might be at the limitatoion sd card medium
Quality is good as original?
Or even better?
As far as gameplay goes it’s the same as an original.
@ScarletSprites Thats good 👍
waitwaitwait...Shinobi port? Sorry, I'm going to have to come back to this vid later--something important just came up. 😜
It’s out there. A revision came out this weekend.
Im sorry i love NEO GEO.....but you have a Open Ice Cabinet? I jealously is at its peak right now
Yeah I finished that last summer. I really should do a video on that and a few others that I finished since taking a break.
No 6 slot? Wow. I had no idea you hated Neo Geo....
You don’t know how many times I’ve almost bought one and haven’t. I kind of wish I had had one for some of the stuff I’ve tested, including this.
@@ScarletSprites Sounds like me and a 2 slot....
@@ScarletSprites chalk it up as a business expense 😄
🔥🔥🔥
It Support up to 840 megs
New neo geo games gabe more
(Only one but it do)
KoF 2003 is the biggest game at ~716Mbit isn't it ?
I think you’re right regarding 2003. He might mean new as in games being made in the last five years. I don’t think NG Dev is selling their roms and I’m not sure how large they tout their recent titles to be. I know there are some others.
@southpaw666 2007 game have over 1000 megs
@@BeatemupMaster Sorry what game is this ?
@southpaw666 Fast Striker
Looks like more a Future game as a 2D game
Interesting. 🤔 Nice video. Salute 🫡
Thanks man!
No love for the AES :(
Not yet anyways.
$399. Nope. Not watching your video either.
I wandered into a temple last week and announced I wasn’t Jewish.
