Hey everyone!
I discovered DOLL$BOXX pretty early when I discovered japanese music, but I only know their 'high $pec' EP so far (which I love). Also back then I had no idea about the other projects of the members (Unlucky Morpheus/GacharicSpin f.e.)

“Take My Chance” is probably the song that introduced most of us to DOLL$BOXX. It’s also probably the MV that made most of us fall in love with Hana 🤓💪🏻👈🏻👀🥁🔥
I don’t think she uses any effects for the harsh vocals. She’s capable of doing grawls without any problems.
When I discovered DOLL$BOXX 3 years ago, I had a hard time getting hooked by Gacharic Spin. I even thought they weren’t a band for me but I was really addicted to DOLL$BOXX. Now, after the two last Gachapin album releases, I don’t even know which band I prefer. The one thing I am sure of, is that if I had a Time Machine , I would put the date “April 15th 2018” and would go to Tokyo Dome City Hall to see DOLL$BOXX and Gacharic Spin’s legendary performance 🤩

Good review. Yes this song and video hits like a ton of bricks. ! Tomo-zo is probably using a "gate" effect.

I really agree with you on the comparison with G.S. To me Doll$Boxx were a more heavier band, in which Fuki knew they would be a Super Group. The problem is they didn't have the backing and they were discovered too late. Fuki needs to bring them back when Unlucky Morphius takes a break.

Hana can do live harsh vocals, she has done so with Gacharic Spin as well and I believe she learned Angie to do them too (Angie does them live as well).
Oreo also has some more harsher sounding vocals in one of the Doll$boxx tracks, but I do think those are done with effects (it sounds like they are at least).
But it's obviously always a possibility that some effects were added, they have been using plenty of electronic stuff on vocals over time in Gacharic Spin, so they are more than used to it.

Dieses Lied kam Mitte Januar 2013 raus und eine Mär besagt, daß Kobato Miku-san, die damals mit Lil Cumin nicht besonders glücklich war und womöglich wieder in einem Maid Cafe` hätte arbeiten müssen, dieses Video vorgespielt bekam, was die Initialzündung für ihre Idee einer Band von Maids gewesen sein soll. Klingt fast zu schön, um wahr zu sein, aber um die Gründungsphase ranken sich ja sowieso ein paar Legenden...

In the world where you could only have one of these bands I would pick GS, because they do wider range of music, but at the same time I'm of the opinion that, if they would've taken DB really seriously it probably could've become more popular than both Gacharic Spin and Unlucky Morpheus. Unfortunately though, it's just a side project and they have their main bands to worry about.

That's all Hana on the harsh vocals. She is the person who convinced me that I do, in fact, *enjoy* harsh vocals in songs. Yukina, of Hanabie, made me *love* harsh vocals. I don't necessarily like that style through the _entire_ song, _every_ song, but both DOLL$BOXX/Garcharic Spin, and Hanabie know exactly how, and when to do it.
Maybe one day this super group will get back together again. Last year was their 10th anniversary. It be interesting to see Fuki and Angie on the same stage.

This is their video with the most UA-cam views ahead of Mindset (Gacharic Spin) and Black Pentagram (Unlucky Morpheus). It's a great song, though there are quite a few Doll$boxx songs I like more.
I wonder how important that intro was for its relative popularity. Based on my reading of the history, Aldious and Destrose had used somewhat similar imagery for a few years, but I don't think either were famous, and this was contemporary with Babymetal's emergence. So I think the intro would have had more impact back then than it does now.

I do wonder if that poking fun at idol/otaku culture has anything to do with Koga's former career?
They sometimes do sneak in jokes about her Idol/Modelling stuff in GS. Just a thought.
Which reminds me that just in case you didn't know, FCK (which is a somewhat dubious abbreviation in english...) did a few gravure videos and there's photobooks, as well.

Koga was a gravure model/gravure idol if I remember correctly (I had to look up what that was the first time as well, I had no clue about that scene). Not sure what she did exaclty, but the they showed off a bikini picture of her before Gacharic Spin in one of their concerts last year or 2 years ago. Plenty of Japanese bands/groups seemingly were in the model business actually. I believe the Ladybaby/Reirie members, Brats members were as well as were the Silent Siren members and I'm sure there are plenty of others.
Gacharic Spin's outfits were also a little more "daring" (nothing crazy though) in the beginning including having a single where the cover is a picture with the topside of their bodies only covered by their instruments.

Before becoming a professional musician she was a gravure model, with at least some videos under her belt. Seems rather a common thing, but I just thought it as worth mentioning because of the Take My Chance video and the rather creepy otaku, who seemingly are just there to ogle the idols, not expecting actual music to be played.
