The Largest Aircraft in the U.S. Military

- The Lockheed C-5 Galaxy is a large military transport aircraft originally designed and built by Lockheed, and now maintained and upgraded by its successor, Lockheed Martin. It provides the United States Air Force (USAF) with a heavy intercontinental-range strategic airlift capability, one that can carry outsized and oversized loads, including all air-certifiable cargo.

I was a C-5B Crew Chief stationed at Dover AFB DE from 1991-1995. I was assigned to aircraft tail number 86013. Great experience! This plane is very reliable and has a safe track record. It only breaks when it sits on the flight line. It hardly breaks when it is being flown which is a good thing. I enjoyed traveling all over the world being a flying crew chief and I was only 18-21 years old. Good times.
FRED ❤️❤️❤️🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Thanks for your service😀
Take care of our baby.. 😍
“Long live FRED”
When I saw it first time on air show I was really impress, beautiful bird.
During your travels....did you spend time on Guam? I was stationed there in 605th MASS an electrician..got to work on C5’s....
My mom helped build the wings for the C5, C130, and L1011 here in Nashville. We got to tour the C130 & C5 in our early teens, the C5 was an awesome sight to see!!
my dad not only built these, but also flew them for a decade before moving to the C-17. to this day hearing these planes above my house gives me a smile, dover strong
I've seen quite a few of these when I lived on Vandenberg AFB. They are so large they look like they are flying slow and should fall out of sky.
Whenever the Air Force is practicing touch and goes at Dover Air Force base they’ll go right over my house. Just yesterday I walked out of the front door to see a C-17 flying over, tilted 30-45 degrees at 500 feet of altitude (asked my ATC friend). These planes are awesome, and I love seeing them from time to time

I was stationed at Dover with the 436 EMS/MXS until '06.
Dennis Crider that’s awesome, my dad spent most his time with the 3rd airlift and the c5, then i believe transferred to the 436th with the 17s!
A few years ago a Galaxy overflew me at an altitude of approximately 300 feet. It was mammoth.
bullshit, if it was a 300 feet you were standing at the end of the runway
I was so fortunate to have had the privilege to sit in this baby. It is an amazing aircraft
They are gonna struggle to replace the C5.
They will probably do what they did with the C-130 and just remake some
C5 and it's newer versions will be there for atleast 20-30 more years...also it's no more in production...and c17 globemaster is effectively a better aircraft...so c5 is already replaced...
@@SPEARHEADGLOBAL c17 is smaller, carries less payload and has less range. def not better.
@@ReticleMan690 it's better if you consider how much time a C5 sits on the ground due to it breaking. If you ever want to kneel it, consider it broken. I don't know how many time I had to upload and download the same C5 because it would break. So many wasted manhours bothering with that plane. C-17 much more reliable which is why you'll see the mostly at AMC terminals over a C5
*Antonov An225 intensifies*
For me is it inconceivable how much intelligence and skill required by pilots to possess for his or her mastery of such a aircraft as this one featured in this broadcast. Rock on!
I was thrilled to hear the mention of Travis A.F.B., CA. My dad was stationed there, when I was a kid, during the 1980's. A lot of great memories, and I got to see (inside and out) the C-5 Galaxy many times.
THUMBNAIL: "Yo dawg, I heard you like airplanes so I put an airplane inside another airplane"
Ayyyy
Oh, the beautiful sound of the TF-39s
I live about 40 minutes south of Dover and watching these planes glide in slow motion back to DAFB is an amazing sight.
Lived in Dover at one point and it looks like the plane isn't even moving when it takes off and goes up in the air. It's amazing they can stay up in the air
AN-225: am I a joke to you?
Awesome Plane!! I rode one from Hawaii to East coast nonstop back in 1971.
Boeing was behind the moth balling of the C-5 fleet so they could build their C-17 transport. Someone high up in the military finally said they need the C-5 back to fly farther and carry more cargo than any other transport.
Awesome video!!
I just love this channel.
Military planes/ choppers/ and ships mainly, absolutely fascinate me
Same
Hendog yh me too
Awesome videos👍 keep up the good work
That is a great looking airplane and I have worked on and flew on them and this airplane is very large and it can deliver plenty of cargo inside of it. The airplane was around before I entered the Air Force and is still flying and the cream of the crop for carrying both passengers and cargo.
When you take a look at the C5 the Made in America takes on a whole different meaning
What's really interesting is how the Air Force transports military satellites to either Vandenberg or Cape Canaveral. They're carried in an environment-controlled shipping container rather than just being wrapped like other cargo. It does make sense though because of how fragile or sensitive their components are. There's a video on UA-cam of a C-5 moving one in the last year.
I wouldn't want to be the load master for this bird. What a job.
You are so Lucky America for having this much big size transport aircraft.
Awesome beautiful amazing
Thank you for your service
C5 Galaxy: "I can carry an enormous amount of cargo, even Abrams MBTs."
Antonov An-224 Mriya: "Hold my beer."
Theres a huge difference never brought up, theres close to 300 C5's how many Antonov's They tried to make a second Antonov.
AN-225 was a one off to carry the unsuccessful Buran. I believe the AN is flying privately now. Russia didn't even want to keep it. Still, very good engineering feat! But you can't compare it to the Galaxy that are in high number with the USAF!
Hold my vodka
@@xzabath1 WRONG. There are 52 C-5Ms currently active, 131 A and B models originally built
There is no AN-224......You mean AN-225??
I've always loved airplanes and I've seen many C-5 Galaxies in my life fly around my home town of Dayton Ohio and watched Countless C-5's take off and land from Wright Patterson Air Force Base on the outskirts of Dayton. (I've even watched Air Force One doing maneuvers there as well) Even so, watching this video was very informative and interesting. Thank you so much for your time talking about my favorite subject.
Jeff Bezos should buy a few of these so amazon would carry way more packages ever before
Bets comment ever no 🧢

Usa air force the best in the planet hello from monterrey mexico
Love this. Just Keep us Great !!!
When I was in the Air Force and would look up and see one flying I would think, “Where is the cable holding it up?”
The ping pong balls capacity of the plane shock-me. This is maybe the most important feature of this cargo plane.
A truly astounding aeroplane.
Great Channel, Thanks for Posting, 👍 🇺🇸
My class went in one on a field trip
Love the fact these are kept flying for decades n decades. Ingenious piece of kit. Almost as sexy as a B52. These are what B52’s look like on a diet of Big Macs n fries. (LOL)
Lucky bastard
Highly doubt that but ok
Good Job Dear ⭐️ We love🇺🇸 US Military 💒 God bless all... 💞💕💞
*AMAZING!!*
Totally AWESOME!
Probably would be a first for anybody to call a monster beautiful but in this case this C5 Galaxy is just that as the largest most beautifully impressive.
When its flying through skies its reminding others about great abilities of USA influence through the world 👏👏👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾🇺🇸🇺🇸
I love the old engines and the noise it made at throttle up, these new engines are too quiet lol
Great Stuff
Does anyone out there know of any Documentaries or info about the competition of those 3 companies for the contract?
It should have been named "The Hippo". This plane is massive
Can you do a video on the plan for the depleted f22s
You know what I think the C5 Galaxy a chest perfect I mean it's the biggest airplane in the world and the airplane is a legend went crazy cargo capacity
Wow a flying giant ❤️🇺🇸❤️🇺🇸❤️🇺🇸
🇺🇸🇺🇸👊PURE POWER👊🇺🇸🇺🇸
Well it's relieving to know that they have something to carry all those ping pong balls. I can rest comfortably now.
This plane is like a work of art.
Great !
Quite a mix of C-5A..C-5B and C-5M in this video....
When you see one of these in person you scratch your head as to how something this big can not only fly, but carry so much weight and take off so short. its humbling to experience one of these behemoths.
I saw one once flying low and slow. It looked like it was hanging in the air, an illusion because of its great size.
The new ace combat looks amazing
Amazing
We are the best of the best ..imagine the awesome cool stuff we dont know about that our soldiers use and the air crafts are amazing and will only get better and better.
Thank you for your services to all that have or are or will appreciate your bravery and respect to all.
You men n women are awesome...
We didn't do it for praise. But, it is kinda nice to hear once in awhile! You're more than welcome sir!!
Monster !!
Love you bro..India
It is essential to transport ping pong balls.
I love our country godbless
4:18 This plane just Deepthroated the entire aircraft
Nice
Whale of the air, wonderful aircraft!
Gleason .... Nuff said
I remember watching one take off from NAS Subic 1972
🇺🇸🗽🇺🇸🗽🇺🇸🗽🇺🇸🇺🇸🗽
And also the A-10 tank Buster also a legendary airplane do not retire that airplane the airplane is a crazy fighter jet and also do not retire the B-2 stealth bomber that airplane is also a legend
The symbol of mighty power USAF.
Not only the Air Force, this thing's so huge NASA sometimes uses it to move rocket parts around.
For something built in 1969 and still going strong says a lot about the designers and the Air Force for taking care of them.
all but one of the original A models have been retired, the B models were built 1985-89
First time I saw one flying, I was like what the hell is that, lol
USA : THE Largest Aircraft in the U.S. Military. SUPER. SUPER. SUPER.
THE BES ARIOPLAN IN THE WORLD !! NO QUESTION..
This thing is taller than my full apartment building!
Wow ! Loading the plane from the front looks like a giant snake eating/swalowing it’s prey !
it shakez your innerdz-still best on planet 4 ever
next mrbeast Challenge stay 24 hours in the c-5
Lazer Shark looool
5:20. Anchor chains, wet pxssy, and C5 reverse thrusters, greatest sounds on earth. Yes?
Great video with interesting facts. My brother flew the "old school" C-5s' at Dover and retired in '92.
Was supposed to fly the C5 from Mcchord AFB to Korea for an exercise in 1991. Damn if I did not miss that flight. Was pissed.
I was so lucky to be in one of the c 17 4 times .
Now THATS WHAT I CALL A "SKY SCRAPER.".!!!
Cool
Wow...beken yg supersonic broo....cepat tepat waktu to...👍👍na itu baru kapala kargo/pengankut barang alat berat
Super fighter..
Cuh wildin
How many wheels does the C5 Galaxy has? Just a question
4:17 is that a c-5 eating a C-130 fuselage?
it isn't the largest plane it the world
In Somalia for some reason er usually spotted the planes before the tower did. These you could spot about a half hour out. I also got to see the Russian ones take off. Once it passed half way on the runway we lost sight on it. We realized that it was going to run out of runway soon.after about thirty seconds finally it appeared and had to be heavy as it was climbing very slowly but it made it.
The c 5 galaxy is the largest and biggest plane that the usa army use to their missions and carry important material
There is always a bigger fish on the apron.
i think the successor to the c-5 Galaxy would be called the Universe and the one after would be called the Big Bang
Seeing one fly over the house was jaw dropping. You have to see this plane in person. Video does not do justice to its amazing size.
Im a simple man, i see a C130 or AC130, i click.
Fast and furious "roman be like that's not a plane that's a planet"
They should retrofit 6 of these with modular composite pressure tanks, baffled if necessary, and use them to fight wildfires. Handle it.
there is already a tanker version of the 747
@@bob80q Used to great effect then decommissioned and sold to a logistics company probably due to endless bureaucratic red tape. SMH
Big plane go nom nom
Antonov 225 is laughing 😁
Cuz its looking down at its little sack.
@Hammerschlägen M at least there’s one laughing.
What an aircrafts what a technology this what super power is
I got obsessed with us army and influence but I live in Canada but hey it’s part of allies you know?
Yeah
I was in the Air Force from 1970 to 1974 Security police and we had eight of them at Altus Air Force Base Ok. along with four Alert B-52s big planes
Funny thing-the only people that say the C-5 is a good plane are crew chiefs. Specs hate this plane for a good reason.
Antonov An-225 Mriya 👌
and an 124
You can see why the USA has the formidable power good on them!!
