      Im sure everyone knew what was up, they all could have opened fire at any time but didnt. The dangerous part of a situation like this is that you never know how far gone that Person is that is already desperate enough to consider having police shoot them to end their life. They could shoot and kill Officers or even unarmed civilian bystanders just to make the officers have to resort to lethal force to stop him.
      Luckily in Brown's case it was a fake Gun and he had obvious second thoughts, otherwise he would have started being aggressive or aiming at the officers to escalate the situation to the outcome he thought he wanted.
      All the People there are good People, the majority of Policemen and women are. Im sure that single shot they had to give off was made with precausions already in place to ensure it won't kill him and help is there to immediately render first aid. Not a perfect outcome for anyone, but its not the worst that could have happened. It is why Policetraining is so important to prepare Policeofficers for any and all situations they might be forced into during their service and why the call for defunding the Police is so counterproductive and even dangerous.

    I am a retired LAPD cop. I worked at several different LAPD stations during my career. I worked at least briefly at the front desk in the lobbies of each police station at which I worked. I was never really surprised that somebody might walk into a police station with a weapon because they wanted to kill a cop. The people who surprised me were the ones who walked into a police station holding a weapon and never considered that the police might interpret this as a threat.
    At various different times and stations, I have been working in the lobby when people walked into the police station carrying pistols, rifles, shotguns, a grenade, blasting caps, det cord, and even a mortar shell. Most of these folks were surprised when cops considered them to be threats and pointed guns at them. Typically, people just wanted to turn these items into the police and never considered the potential consequences of surprising cops this way.
    Here is a pro tip. Do not walk into a police station carrying a weapon of any sort. If you have a weapon to dispose of, call the police, explain the situation, and follow their advice on how to handle the situation.

      @@Shijaru64 I never heard of anybody being arrested for this kind of thing. There was no criminal intent involved, just a lack of common sense. The guy with the mortar shell didn’t even manage to set it down. I had him turn around and go outside with it. By the time I made it around the counter and out the front door, he was setting it down in the trunk of his car. We emptied the parking lot with the sole exception of his car, cordoned off the area, and called the bomb squad. If I recall correctly, he brought it home with him while he was serving in the military. The hand grenades were usually found by the adult children of people who recently died. Their parents generally brought them home from their own military service and had the things lying around for decades.

      @BravosJ 3 місяці тому +20

      Understandable but policing is a very grey issue. There are good departments and bad departments and the bad like to hide behind the deeds of the good when they fuck up. The good departments that value public trust, ethics, and equal enforcement of the law on all people are appreciated and should be held up high. That being said, the shit that officers go through doesn't give them a free pass to break the law themselves, act unconstitutionally, and then get covered by corrupt leadership in bad departments. The sooner people start to take things on a case by case basis and let go of polarized, absolute judgements like "All cops are bastards" or "Back the blue (always)" the sooner the relationship between public and police can be mended. The public might not understand the day to day minutiae of being a cop, but then again nobody knows what everyday life is like for people who aren't close to them. And when the public sees a case of a cop blatantly in the wrong getting a slap on the wrist, or maybe nothing at all, for something an average person would go to prison for, you can't expect them to not get upset and think "what has that officer been going through". You know that doesn't happen the other way around when a member of the public is acting unlawfully. And ultimately at the end of the day, a lot of the shit police deal with is brought about because of decades of shitty social and economic policy that leaves us with excess poverty, health issues, and gun violence for a country that is so wealthy, powerful, and full of natural resources. Thank you for your service

      He should not go to prison at any rate.
      He has a fake gun, notes that made his intent clear that he wanted to die.
      He was in no way acting aggressive and was just holding the fake gun hoping the cops would kill him.
      Any judge should look at that and not imprison him but instead get him taken to a medical center for mental rehabilitation since prison would absolutely NOT do him any good and would guarantee his mental state would deteriorate even further to the point where he may not be able to control himself and actually hurt someone.

      Yeah, I agree with that. I almost got killed because of a mental guy. When someone has gone agressive with mental problem what I know is they will do everything based on their feeling and mostly it's negative. They don't even think about the circumstances. It was like a pure wild beast gone wild. It's scary like that, but if you can do a calmly talk with them and don't let them feel negative-agressive you'll can manage them properly. (This is an ideal, but if you can do that the best possible way will achieved).
      Also mostly when talking with mental guys don't talk with them reasonably, but use feeling to understand them when they're more calm we can talk with reason. I was survived because of that. Human is still a human if we understand the concept of human feelings we will not just saying you're mental. It hurts that guy and because it's hurt he decided to punch.

    OK, help me make the Suzanne case sense. I mean her sentence, isn't it a bit of an overkill? Life in prison? Chandler Halderson murdered his parents, chopped them up, partially burned their bodies, and he scattered the rest of their remains all over south Wisconsin. His sentence was life without parole. You know where I'm going with this, right? How come a person that wants to commit suicide ass drunk gets the same sentence as a double murderer? Same with Joel Guy Jr. Life without parole. He placed his mother's severed head in a pan and cooked it. Etc.
    Suzanne shouldn't have gotten life; she should've gotten _some years_ and mental health counseling. Same with the first dude who felt helpless about his mental illness - schizophrenia, to be precise. He got nothing but a prison sentence. I was sure he'd get some mandatory psychiatric treatment or something.
    As for the "mental" case (no pun intended); you're right to point out that the cop *did insult* that guy, then left his bullet proof post to confront him. Why??? His actions were so petty, childish and most of all, unprofessional, I have no words. I've seen hundreds of bodycam videos, but this cop is one of the least professional officers I've ever seen.

    I feel bad for the lady. Having a kid with special needs is rough but you can't give up on living. And the fact she might go away for life is ridiculous. There are actual killers and Pedos who got lighter sentences than her.

    • @desiredsix4241
      @desiredsix4241 3 місяці тому +9

      I feel like charging her with crimes isn't going to help her situation anymore as well. Makes it even worse, and we already saw what she was willing to do at that low of a point in her life. Imagine after she gets out of prison.

    • @olympiad013
      @olympiad013 3 місяці тому +5

      Seems rough but at some point you gotta think about the danger they pose to the community or even her own kids as well. Jail has also progressed a lot from throwing them in a cell and throwing away the key. She will have access to medical treatment for her mental health. She will also have opportunities depending on her behaviour to gain a job within the prison and have stability in her life which a lot of people like this just don't have on the outside. On top of that she can still be released on parole with good behaviour and following treatment plans developed for her. Obviously we don't know all the details to the case but it's something to consider

    • @PrinceJr-oj7sq
      @PrinceJr-oj7sq 3 місяці тому +5

      @@olympiad013You make fair points, but what do you think about the mother and son with the loaded guns? It was rather dumb to put the guns through the metal detector instead of declaring immediately that you had the guns in the bag and explain why. But to go to prison for being armed on your way to get a restraining order from the alleged stalker you're armed against is both ironic and tragic.
      Sometimes the law seems too stiff. Too easy to get slapped with charges that don't take context into consideration. Or maybe it's up to the courts to flesh out context after law enforcement slaps on every potential charge. That would still suck too as court is time and money.
      I rambled a tiny bit but my question was in the first sentence.

    • @olympiad013
      @olympiad013 3 місяці тому +2

      @@PrinceJr-oj7sq I mean your basically on the right track unfortunately the police force is under so much public scrutiny now that a lot of the times they slap people with every charge they can and let the courts deal with it. You could imagine the backlash for the police If they were let go and they ended up shooting up a place after this incident. I'm not sure if this is the right way to deal with it but I also can't think of a better solution.
      In regards to this specific case, its a tough one, it could've been an honest mistake in the stress of the moment and probably the most important parts weren't shown in the video. The mothers interaction weren't shown at all but they stated she was acting nervous before the bags were scanned and the fact she ran before questioning isn't doing them any favours. There's also a few things that don't add up in his story, he was getting chased at first and then the next sentence he said he was dropped off by officer gates, then a few sentences later he said the hospital dropped him of. Understandably he looks to be stressed in the situation and fumbling with his words a bit. Again not shown but I'm assuming the officers checked with the hospital to see if he was actually there and with Officer Gates too see if there's any consistency with his story. You could also argue a MAC-10 with an extended mag and 99 rounds is a bit much for self defence. Hard to make judgement with just the snippet of the event we were shown but I'm more inclined to say the police were within their right to go ahead with the charges and let the courts sort it out on this one
