      @@MooseMaunu That's being very charitable to these judges. So they care enough about the kids to keep the father working, but not enough to keep the kids out of a DV situation? They have their priorities messed up then. Honestly, a lot of the leniency these days comes from judges who have modern philosophies regarding criminal justice; determinism, restorative justice, anti-carceral views. It's not about the law or protecting the public anymore, it's about how they look to their peers and their disproportionate empathy for criminals. The same is true for many D.A.s and prosecutors - they're even worse and more open about their ideologies, and it's difficult to tell them apart from the defense attorneys the way they show favor towards criminals. I live in NYC and this is a major issue, especially in regard to serial offenders. You basically have to end someone's life to get held until trial or receive a charges commensurate with the laws on the books, and even then, they might knock down the charge to manslaughter (which was demonstrated in an interview with Manhattan prosecutor Dafna Yoran). This isn't about the economic situation of the family; there's way more to it and it's much more subversive than you believe.

      @iMatti00 7 днів тому +1

      🤦‍♂️ I don’t wanna be too harsh, but that is something that only someone that lacks any ability of common sense, much less critical thinking, could ever believe. If you want people to get the maximum sentence or some other form to decide who goes to jail, then you change the system. Putting a judge in jail because you don’t like their opinion is quite frankly something I would only expect to hear from someone who hasn’t even reached the age to get a license. Though you were not alone in your belief, it’s just pretty sad and a stain on the minds of our society.
      Threatening judges with prison with absolutely get them to do whatever the public wanted. That doesn’t mean it’s the right decision. Some places would give less prison time. Or maybe judges would be worried about the next election and who is going to be the person empowered to put them in prison so they would do whatever the next person who is going to get elected wanted. That makes that person a small king. we have every judges in prison. That’s ridiculous. If we do that, then, of course they’re gonna either quit or do exactly what the public wants him to do. And how many people who are innocent would be put in prison because they would be afraid to give a righteous sentence For fear that they’d be putting in prison themselves. And then when cops violate peoples rights, the judges would not let these people out of their charges because they wouldn’t want the mob public to be angry and put the judge in prison themselves. So they would not care about individual rights. At first, we wouldn’t care because it would just be criminals who would be punished. But then cops would start realizing there’s no Issue with violating rights because the judges aren’t gonna do anything because they’re not gonna let criminals out. So then cops start being over eager and they accidentally start arresting innocent people might look a little guilty.
      There’s a whole host of issues like this. But the reason I say only someone who has not reached the age of a drivers license would believe that is because that’s the timeframe when just feel like if one thing’s wrong you make this big change and that’ll fix it, but there’s unintended consequences to everything. that’s like saying maybe a business should help out their employees that are struggling financially so they should just triple their wages, only someone of that age range would believe that. Because you don’t just go out and pick the rest of the money off of a tree outside. Where is that money come from. These are all things that happen and everything in society. you think if it was just as easy to tell a judge, we’re gonna put you in prison if you don’t like what you decide that the system would not have looked for that type of solution 250 years ago? It’s just perplexing to me how we have people in society they don’t understand stuff like this.

      Here’s the issue you smooth brained troglodytes. The vast majority of the time (>99% most likely) the DV offender isn’t going to come back and kill the victim. You can’t sentence people to prison based on that less than 1% case where they do.

      This is a GREAT tip. For anyone with sliding glass doors, I also drive a deck screw or two up into the rail, so that the door can slide without colliding with the screw heads but cannot be lifted off and removed (again, sloppy tolerances/cheap materials/greedy companies). When I was a kid, my dad had a book about home security for the homeowner that had all sorts of tips like this- I wish I could remember the name because it would be really useful!

    I had this happen to me when my children were very little, 3-4-6 years old. Nothing is more terrifying for a mother who is trying to protect her children from a intruder. I was on the floor holding the door closed with my feet and my back against a wall. If I moved the door would come down, but I wanted to run and grab my babies and them out of the house. After holding the door for over 30 minutes a neighbor who finally heard my screams called the police. This was in 1993 so no cell phone. Later I found out that the man was a criminal who had been let out on a Christmas leave from jail/prison for a 5 day furlough. This was unbelievable to me, I had never heard of such a thing. He was released to his cousin who had signed some kind of responsibility forms so he could spend Christmas with him. I pray that the prison system no longer allows this kind of pass for criminals. When the police arrived they told me he was completely out of it on drugs and that I was very lucky. I remember the fear to this day that I would fail he would get inside and hurt my babies.

      Goofiest comment thread I’ve seen in a while. Everyone is so emotional and it appears that humans are devolving more rapidly each year.
      No one takes into consideration the resources we have, and those we don’t have. In retrospect, everyone is a genius. How could those judges have gotten it so wrong? But no one thinks of the thousands of others with the same charges that didn’t do what he did. We simply don’t have the resources to incarcerate every person that is convicted of a crime. Even if we did have never-ending money for prisons and guards, etc., we couldn’t keep this type of criminal locked in there forever.
      He would’ve taken her out once he was free. Then who would everyone blame? Sorry to come off so callously, but this is just the cost of doing business as it pertains to the justice system. It’s not a perfect system and we’re over-taxed already to barely be able to afford this imperfect balance.
