The Baltimore Ravens have been one of the more interesting teams across the entire NFL this season. The Ravens Offense, being newly operated by OC Todd Monken, had a new look to it. The Ravens Defense under new coordination by DC Mike MacDonald was also performing better than expected. But after the Baltimore Ravens vs San Francisco 49ers Christmas Day showdown, there are some things we need to talk about with Baltimore.
To start with the Ravens offense, it is almost a completely different operation than what was seen at the beginning of the 2023. With Lamar Jackson running away with the NFL MVP, despite losing RB Keaton Mitchell to injury, and continued imrpovement from WRs Zay Flowers, Odell Beckham Jr, Nelson Agholor, Rashod Bateman, even TE Isaiah Likely, etc, the pass & run game are better than ever cohesively. And with Gus Edwards & Justice Hill holding down in the backfield, they’re not slowing down for anyone.
Then, there’s the Ravens defense - arguably the best defense in the NFL. With their LB core of Roquan Smith, Patrick Queen & Jadeveon Clowney, & their loaded secondary of Kyle Hamilton, Marcus Williams & of course Marlon Humphrey, this defense is putting up historic numbers. And coupling that with the offense & the play of Lamar Jackson, this team might not have an answer for how to be stopped.

As a 49ers fan, and seeing how well Lamar adapted to the game in person, yes, I believe he's the MVP. As for how far the Ravens make it, I'd say AFC championship is the floor, and sb winners is the roof. If the offense and defense clicks, I think they can win the ring. 👍👍👍
The win over San Francisco was good but we as Ravens fans can't let that be out Super Bowl. We still have Miami who can score 70 points a game and we have the bad playoff experiences of the past. We have a different team, different offense and now a legitimate pass threat that very efficient. It's not 400 or 500 yards a game but it's very efficient.
People need to get over the passed and frankly I'm tired of hearing about the past it's a different team a different year o believe we would have been done it if he wasn't hurt or at least made it further in the play offs

I think it's Lamar just being more comfortable in the entire operation and going through his reads quicker. Took about two months to get that way.

No, the video says and watching shows he DOES run around back there to buy time and drop bombs, not scrambling for 10 yards. This IS much harder to stop then staying there in the pocket to read for 2.7 seconds where rushers know where you're going to be.
Also if you don't watch Ravens games you don't understand what Lamar does to defenses.
He starts out and wears their legs out he dances around and does all this stuff on purpose because those de's legs are seizing up at halftime.
That's the result of him studying them over and over in film.

If Lamar can control the pocket and make plays while escaping, its a hard offense to stop.

I'm glad we don't. He's not as big as Jalen and that's a stupid fucking play to do every game using your most valuable player. And he obviously doesn't need those TDs as he's still the MVP favorite AND healthy.
My prediction is the next two to five yrs he will really ascend. He will be more comfortable in the offense and EDC will continue to improve the team. We are just seeing the start of it. Its not do or die for this franchise to win this year its how much can maintain and improve on in the next few years. Go look at the contracts the key guys are locked up and young.

Invest in the Offense of line first. Then another stud receiver. If Lamar has one of the top OL and a top ten receiver group (right now they are 19th) then it will be a great next 5 years plus. Lamar is just 27 so he will only get better to the level of greatness.

In context. That game was early in the season. This defense wasn’t nearly as good, McDonald wasn’t nearly as good.
The Dolphins are a great team, underrated in my opinion. I think the narratives about them were unfairly assessed (can’t beat good teams) the NFL is all about matchups. Also, different times of the season, injuries, etc. the Dolphins defense is much better than what people think. Very solid defense. They are a good team no doubt.
The Ravens will have their challenges. The defense will give up plays … but o think they will play well enough to not let Tua throw for 6 touchdowns

More than one of those touchdowns was severe lack of communication and cohesiveness in a defense with a brand new DC. people were calling for Kyle Hamilton’s head in his SECOND game as a rookie. Since then he’s proven to be one of the best DBs in football. I was at that game. This is NOT the same Ravens team. That being said I think the Dolphins absolutely can still win the game because of Waddle and Hill. And as a long time ravens fan who hated the way the titans killed us in 2019. I wouldn’t mind not being the 1seed and not getting a bye. I think we okay our best football with momentum and angry with a chip on our shoulders. I hate it when we’re popular lol.
Win or lose, Dolphins offense wont play as well against Ravens defense this year. No Chuck Clark, injured Marcus Peters, etc. in the backfield, and Roquan Smith hadn't joined the Ravens yet

Like you said, letting Lamar run at will, taking what the defense gives him and making plays down field with his arm after extending the play has been where it’s at. Instead of telling him when to run, focusing on pass first and running to turn nothing into something has been breaking defenses. MVP fo sho and takin it to the house, see you in Vegas baby 🫡

Lamar Jackson is at the peak of his prime!!! He can see the field and throw the baller at the highest level he can improvise if no one is open or the play breaks down!! He can run when the corner backs and safety play perfect defense!! Your linebackers and defensive ends can’t just blitz him because he’ll kill you every time lastly but most importantly he has a great offensive coordinator who knows how to utilize the qb skill level to call plays to support him combined with the talent around him great WR and RB by comity

This is the type of mentality that needs to be promoted in Chicago with Justin Fields. The guy already demonstrated that he is very accurate specially on the deep throws, he needs time in the pocket and t\he OL has been very inconsistent this season, they can't deal with pressure defenses. Also a receiving corp that can actually get open and keep the double team out of DJ Moore. I love how Harbaugh have deal with Lamar development, he is a special talent.

The analysis was of Lamar and the Ravens' O, not the 49ers or the Ravens' D. He spoke on their league-best record, and how Lamar has still improved in the past month despite already leading the league's 4th-best offense.
How in the world did that become about the content creator being a Ravens fan, or the Ravens' D having a lucky night against the Niners? What does that have to do with anything?
The implementation of Lamar using his legs to extend a play, not just in running the ball himself, but to give him more time to throw and let receivers get open, has been a huge difference. It's almost like the Ravens' pocket is now a moving target that other teams have to contend with. Trying to go one-on-one with Lamar's elusiveness will ultimately prove futile, but opposing defenses will have to scheme to see if there's a way that they can manipulate Lamar's movement in certain directions to at least make it more manageable. At present, if Lamar can jump out the window in any direction, it's going to be much harder to stop anything.
Defenses will adjust in time for the playoffs and the Ravens will have to run the ball better with their RBs. My guess is teams will go back to using a QB spy as the spy can also cover the RB leaking out of the backfield for short passes
It helps that he finally has a WR corps that understands the scramble drill and a legit OC. Demarcus Robinson was his number 1 WR last year. He'd be a 4th or 5th on the depth chart this year. Prior to that, it was Hollywood who plays too soft to be anything other than a deep threat. He'd be 3rd or 4th on the depth chart this year.
@@BRockin25Nah. They've already tried adjusting if you've been paying attention. Historically, beating Romans offense was simple, play man and stack the box. It worked because under Roman, Ravens never had WRs that could consistently beat man and Roman didnt know how to scheme outside the numbers anyway. Then the infamous Miami zero blitz game basically killed his offense for the rest of his time here. Everybody knew the formula after that.
Well, teams have tried that with Monken, and it doesnt work. OBJ, Zay, Andrews and Likely can beat man, and unlike Roman, Monken actually understands what a "hot route" is. They can adjust all they want, but the season shows when they play man and stop the run, Ravens win throwing it. If they adjust to stop the pass and play zone, Ravens RBs average 5 ypc.
Plus, unlike Roman, Monken also knows how to use the backs in the pass game. Knows how to use screens and dump-offs to the flat and such. Gus, Mitchell, Hill, Gordon and Ricard have caught a combined 73 passes. Romans RBs only ever caught more than 50 passes combined one time, and that was with a known pass catching back in Devonta Freeman, and Lamar missing 5 games. Backups throw more dump-offs.
So even if man is working on the WRs, and they are stacking the box, the defense is basically setting up the blocking downfield for the offense in the screen game by playing man. There is a reason why guys like Gus and Hill both have career highs in receptions, Gus has a career high in yards per catch and Hill's first career TD reception came this season. Unlike Roman, Monken's offense actually has answers for the past problems.
This is all true but Lamar has still never had a strong game vs. the Steelers and imo that is his likely 1st playoff matchup. They have a strong pass rush but also don’t let the RB leak out for easy passes. Not saying Ravens offenses will be stopped outright, but the key to their offense is still how well they run the ball with their RBs even under Monken

I have to say, the 49ers game and how the Ravens dominated them, was somewhat shocking to me. This let me know that the Ravens can really beat any team in the NFL this year. Their only achilles heel is themselves. What's also scary is they're doing all of this WITHOUT a bonafide #1 RB. I mean yes, Gus is ok, but he's not a homerun hitter. Dobbins can't stay healthy and is probably done in Baltimore. Keaton Mitchell was the closest they came to having a home run hitter but he too got injured. I think they should draft a RB in Round 2 of the Draft next year
You aint saying anything we dont know or see already. They beefed up the o-line and put more versatile playmakers on offense. Lamar, before this season, mentioned he was going to throw more. You just dragged this out.
First year in a new scheme/system, and everyone else is downing him and this offense, yet they keep winning, dismantling good teams like (stats actually back this up) no one else has before (7 wins of 14 pts or more against winning teams, previous mark was 5), and his numbers don’t have to be mind boggling because we can run and beat teams in literally every single way. It’s only the beginning, all the hate is CLEARLY sourced from fear of a new dynasty on the horizon…. Just up to Baltimore to win. 👏💜

Ravens have 3 games over 100% dvoa this year, all against NFC playoff teams (Lions, Seahawks, 49ers). If the Ravens get to the Superbowl, it's probably going to suck, because Lamar is 20-1 against NFC teams as a starter in his career and he absolutely dominates the NFC. They're the 4th best team through 15 games in DVOA history and are currently top 4 in all 3 phases by DVOA.

MVP is a Poison Prize. It's given to the #1 Offensive performance. SB winner QBs (check every Brady ring year) don't do that, they kill clock enough 4th quarters due to great D, to miss out on #1. Bradys MVP years are bad D allowing too many points, scoring to stay ahead, and ALWAYS, postseason losses, look it up. Only 2022 Mahomes broke the curse, but you'd RATHER be the 2023 Ravens, not the 2019 ones Lamar MVP. Sack and INT the crap out the MVP in the Playoffs or Superbowl.

The 49ers were only giving up 16.7 ppg and the Ravens doubled that. As for the INTs, one of them essentially was the game ending play so there would be no points there. Another was one that ended up on the Ravens 8 yard line but stopped the 49ers from scoring. I've seen this talking point over and over from Niners fans since Monday --that the Ravens should have scored more points because of the INTs. If the Ravens average 33 points the rest of the way they are Super Bowl Champs, plain and simple. This game was a classic "not as close as the score indicated" game. The Ravens pushed the 49ers all over the field and were clearly in Purdy's head. I haven't seen any 49er games before this one so I didn't realize that most of the passing attack consisted of screens and then let the receivers get YAC. Not very inventive, and not effective against a team with as much speed on defense as the Ravens. Purdy was exposed for what he is, a game manager and not a playmaker.

Ravens could have scored more, but the offense decided enough was enough for most of the 4th quarter. I'm surprised Harbaugh even left Lamar in.
With that said, it's pretty funny seeing someone trying to justify how good their team is by stating they should have lost by even more points.
The offense isnt even clicking on all cylinders. Lamar is late on the "on schedule" throws. He leaves yards and points on the field. All of this can be corrected though.
