I used to have a 2017 5door DSG6 290hp. I bought it with 80.000km and sold it at 115.000. 35.000km in 2 years. Maintenance costs : 1 oil + filter change every year, 1 DSG + Haldex oil change before selling, 4 tires, rear brake pads once, and 2 leaky front dampers (DCC means Dampers can cost). But prices were ok-ish (apart dampers, 1000€...). For a performance car in its second part of life, it retained most of its value, having bought it for 27k€ and sold for 24.5. So, in the end, really reasonable costs for an ICE sporty car.

I had a 15 Cupra 280 ST performance pack (370mm Brembo), Seat Sound which is made by Beats By Dre. I did do a res delete and it sounded great, didn't want a full system as it would be too loud.
Was quick and a problem free car. Had it for 2 years and traded it in for a Skoda Superb, I only lost the equivalent of about 1000 pounds in 2 years, they hold value well, especially the Performance Pack editions.

Great review! I had a 2015 280 fwd which I loved in the dry, but I did get fed up with not being able to put down power in the wet. The axle tramp on hard acceleration in first was just horrendous. My previous car was a scoob, so I missed the traction.
I swapped for a 2019 st 300 4 drive and am enjoying that much more. It’s my first DSG and while I’d always go manual for a proper sports car, the 7 spd DSG is amazing for a family car. No more lurching passengers on gear changes! 😂It is less sharp on turn in, without the diff, but that doesn’t bother me too much. Regarding main dealers, the team at St Leonard’s are brilliant if you’re within reach of there. They’re honest, know their stuff and have been nothing short of brilliant on customer service.

The seat sound system upgrade is pretty good, worth getting that if possible.
The drivers side window switches are in an odd position, 4 years on and I still push the rear window switch instead of the front.
Thermostat housing went on mine along with high pressure fuel pump and a top rail injector.
VW and SEAT are rip offs - avoid their dealerships.
I also had to tell them it had a diff, they didn't know anything about how to service it or what the intervals on things were - 2 different dealerships and both were the same crap experience. They wanted to change brakes and discs when they still had at least 3-4 years left in them too.
Start stop still works with a map - on the manual it does sometimes cut out while you are still rolling forward (which cuts power steering and braking).

ST is cheaper so that tempts me but I absolutely loved this car. Drove an ST as well a couple weeks ago and handled fantastic but in a straight line I felt it was a little bit of a let down. Just personal opinion. Loved the manual gear box though. Decisions!

I got my 290 leon cupra from 2016 (Pre restyle) few months ago and i'm in love with it, i just really love the fact it can make so low fuel consumption when i'm at eco mode at the highway or back roads (If you're courious, i live in spain, i do 6.5-7.5L/100km, and not driving like a grandma like he says hehe, just speed limits and some fun sometimes). It's manual and just did a resonator and muffler delete with valves (Got a sport muffler when it's closed), i'm in love, not ecu stage and in cupra mode it's a pop festival.
I hope i can have it for a few years so i can save money for my dream car (M2 competition), but, it's a good car.
If someone have questions about it, feel free to ask :)

I ran my manual 290 estate in eco in the beginning to get a benchmark. After about two to three tanks I changed the individuation setting to a mix out of sport and cupra.
