Ive never known a band who could close out a track like Yeasayer. The last half of this song, the last half of Demon Road, the last part of I Am Chemistry, Henrietta... I could keep naming songs. This band was really one of a kind and knew how to finish a song strong. We're lesser off as a society since they broke up.
first i thought, what a disapointment, this album, but it's a grower and the more i listen to it, the more i hear great sounds and vibes, falling in love!
I concur, even all this time later. I didn't find out about Yeasayer until 2012 and didn't really stick with them until around 2019, just before Erotic Reruns. I just kept listening to Fragrant World and Odd Blood the whole 4 years on repeat. Then I decided to keep on listening to Amen and Goodbye and their first album as well and I gotta say, those two albums were their best. The final album was okay but it dosen't compare to all of the Middle Eastern sounds from the 1st and 4th ones. The sitars were amazing when you heard them. Such niceties we never will get again since they broke up. :(
Well damn I actually loved this one from the first time I heard it. Will be interesting to hear how they do this song live... don't imagine Suzzy is available to tour with them (unfortnately).
They do it shockingly well, actually! Anand makes the guitar part more prominent and complex in the live version, and his vocals are fantastic. It's obviously different than the album version (no Suzzy) but really good in its own way! I didn't expect it to hold up, either. Check out the Fonda Theater live performance that was posted here recently - you'll see!
It's the love child of Imogen Heap & Fleetwood Mac, with a passing visit to Todd Rudgren & Clannad. Thanks to HMV Worcester, they recommended Yeaysayer to me when I showed them my play lists (!)
The new Yeasayer album is definitely a grower - it took about 4 listens for this song to finally click. And the part that made it finally click? The female vocals on ‘Half Asleep’. Just listen from the 3:10 minute mark until the end. Gorgeous. #punkflop #TrackDrops #Yeasayer trackdrops.com/2016/05/18/yeasayer-half-asleep/
0:48 plz tell me is that womens voice or mens highly pitched one? Because I saw a concert video and it sounded almost the same but no women were singing it.
this song alone is better than 90% of the crap that plays on the radio. clearly i'm in the minority (look at the views of this video compared to Drake's latest song), but there's just SO much more meaning, depth, and quality to this kind of music than shitty pop music.
There's an awful idea for those Who's own desire is to show you Only darkness for the first walk in the woods So deliver me from evil cause the little things relieve us Even if we might be half asleep, we need them And there's sometimes I wake up, the company I'm keepin The colors on my walls, I don't recognize at all She said, I've seen your face somewhere Now fuck me while I'm sleepin Wasn't that the types we get We're off to a good start She said, now I don't feel so lost I think that I'm in love with you Trust me, I can tell. I have an instinct for these things Let's see how it goes I like your duvet covers The fireplace seems nice Will I see you in the morning? +dove95 She's one of the Roche sisters of the folk band The Roches. Search their stuff on UA-cam. They made really cool music- it sort of reminds me of Sufjan Stevens's music, but it was made 20-30 years before him and it's of course sung by three harmonizing women. Check out their stuff from the 70s and early 80s. Late 80s stuff was not so good. Suzzy has also made some music with her daughter Lucy Wainwright Roche (Rufus Wainwright's half-sister).
Coming back to this after years. Holy shit, what a great track.
Yeasayer is 100% one of the best bands i've ever heard. They deserve way more appreciation and attention, imo
Love the female backing vocals. So complementary
I am pleased to report that they NAILED this song live! They always pull off live arrangements to even their most challenging songs.
My favorite song on the album, which is incredible over all by the way!
truth
I'm obsessed with the bridge. Beautiful.
i love that second part. amazing amazing amazing.
Suzzy's voice is so amazing. This album rocks.
This song gets better every time I listen to it... so many different sounds. So awesome...
The Sufjan vibes in this! What a track.
How is it possible for a song to be this good??
Real Celtic vibe from this track, I love it!
This has something medieval, I love it
Like 2080 and Child's Prodigy
@@s_all_good_man4456 Definitely yes :) 2080 was actually one of my favorite songs a couple of years ago.
Holy shit, that is beautiful. True artists.

I can't turn this song off

I hope they keep collaborating with Suzzy Roche. All the songs featuring her are absolutely beautiful.

3:10 onward is godly. this is good music.
Didn't know that Pearl from Steven Universe was a member of Yeasayer, but she sounds great!

Soooo good! Even better live!
02:38 It's definately Thomas dolby, the underneath haunting tune too......
Everyone who down-voted was half-awake.

Hyper Vidrex I believe it is Suzy Vox
God dayyum.
I like how this one uses more South Asian influence (I'm trying not to use the term "world" music lol)
the 2nd half of this song is so much better than the 1st half.
+Trevor Harrison I was Half Asleep for the first half anyways.
+Jens Hauser I see what you did there
Both halfs are great
This song makes me feel like I'm lying in the middle of a fairy ring in Ireland being serenaded to by benevolent witches.
interesting, my picture is lonely sensitive bisexual pirate heading out to the seas for adventures
