I think defence minister was talking about future plans of navy for the next 30-40 years. Six Aircraft Carriers makes sense.

By 2050 India needs 5 aircraft carriers 80+ submarines,50+ destroyers ,70+ frigates and 100+ corvettes
Look back over 20 years around 2002 and India was shopping for 110+ fighter planes in MMRCA just like it is still searching now.

while right now, we might not even need that many MMRCA... the Tejas Mk2 being developed for AIRFORCE and TEDBF for NAVY are on par with Rafales while being cost effective, and they are mostly fully indigenously developed now... soon we will make engines on our own too...
so yes, it might be looking for MRFA even today, and Navy might still want their 26 naval aircrafts... still now we do have indigenous options capable to perhaps get inducted in more numbers and sideline all ideas of imports...
and yeah if we didn't do stuff in 20 years, rather 70 years (due to "some people"), that does NOT mean that we won't do it later... right now in the last decade we just covered the basics, its just from 2030 onwards where our economy will be decent, and you will be seeing a lot of development happening in the military too... right now in last decade we pulled out 400 million people from poverty in one go... "some people" had ignored poverty for 70 years, and thats why it was needed to be solved right now, and yes extreme poverty might be almost NIL now but poverty still exists... that too will be worked upon

For operating that many aircraft carrier , we also need so many destroyers and frigates to protect it . And with that many no. of TEDBF it will be too crazy . Our overall manufacturing ability will definitely ramp up with this .
TEDBEF will have to be manufactured totally in the private sector.
In order to operate 5-6 AC simultaneously we need to enhance the capability of other ship building firms. So that they can also develop AC.
Then only we can realise this plan

We all want Indian navy to operate 5-6 aircraft carriers in fact even more than that, but looking at the timing of announcement I think it CAN be a political blabbering to show current gov. great, but let's assume that the announcement is genuine than the need of the hour is to build big and capable shipyards in the country before building Aircraft carriers so that more than one aircraft carrier can be build simultaneously

First you need the mindset of these big ambitions. Its not easy for someone to just come out and say "we will have 5-6 aircraft carriers". Previously it would have been said, but times are different, india is much more intertwined into geopolitics and what our defence minister says, will affect the geopolitics and environments. And i am pretty sure our current government knows the value of geopolitics. So NO, i would strongly say that what Rajnath Singh said is not just a political stunt, we will definitely have these capabilities in the future to operate 6+ aircraft carriers, and so what he said is absolutely true. If it aides for his political career, then thats a side quest, not the main objective.

I think 6 aircraft carriers is just the right amount for future. 3 for home defenses and other 3 for overseas deployment.

America se baat karna chahiye ek 2nd hand American carrier bharat ke liye.
Strategies for a blue water navy,but more aicrafts will be required.
It Includes Indian Navy's plan to include 2 or 3 helicopter carriers.
In short we are looking at least 300- 500 billion dollar Defence budget in forthcoming years if we have to achieve 6 aircraft carriers . Hope atleast 4 to 5 ACs are Nuclear powered and their support vessels also have Nuclear power instead of Diesel Electric. Hence 6 aircraft carriers easily ensures 2 ACs per Naval command. Hope we can have additional LHDs and Minesweepers for deployment at Car Nicobar port in future. This move might force other regional Navies to either play host to ACs of other Blue Ocean Navies or procure their own ACs .

We need to focus on jet engine tech more. We cant rely on imported jet engines. Imported jets is a fault line enemies can take advantage of and surely will.
It's not 6 carriers but 8 or 9.RM was talking about "5 or 6 more" and we already have 3.

India needs more submarines than Aircraft carriers so Navy needs to focus on submarines than aircraft carriers because they are more vulnerable target , in actul war situation we need to hide them. We need to fastrack our p75i , ssn ,ssbn projects. Also need to start p18 destroyers need more ships also.

Going by the Defence Minister's word, as he said we will have 5 to 6 more, that's keeping in mind the current three. Retiring Vikramaditya say in another 20 years (a rough guestimate) we will need to have multiple carrier projects underway. At least two in construction two in sea trials and three to four in service. Hence you have a fleet of 8 mega ships with their carrier battle groups. And thats the right direction in protecting the Indian Ocean and also power projection. All thats needed is a solid resolve from the Govt and absolute faith in the ship builders which I feel with new infrastructure they willl not fail to deliver. Indian Navy is playing its cards right. Unlike HAL and ADA... 😒

In my views we don't need 6 more Aircraft carriers but we need 3-4 operational Aircraft carieers one each for dominance in Arabin Sea & Bay of Bengal we already have andaman potential aircraft cariier capable. one aircraft carrier has to be there for backup since it takes years for refit of any aircraft carrrier and the last one can be used by us for missions of far edges beyond boundary of Indian ocean. But Submarines & unmanned vessels should be more importantly looked upon and their numbers should be increased to become a very dominat super power in IOR(indian Ocean Region) .
Do we really need all these when we are already Vishwaguru, when the world consults with us before taking any major decisions?

4 Aircraft carriers for fixed wing aircrafts and 4 for rotary wing/helicopters should be enough, but it's extremely expensive navy need atleast 10 destroyers, 15-20 frigates, 20-25 Corvettes & 10 submarines for the fleet requirment. Aaram se 50-60 billion ka kharcha hai.

We can't get dragged into a arms race with China, we should focus on countermeasures for the pak and China militaries as they are the main problems. Such as anti ship and anti submarine systems and strong air defenses and BMD.
