I've been climbing trees my whole life and this guy in our business is what's called just sober.

I've been in the logging business my entire life and have been involved with every extraction method known, but never I seen this method. If it's feasible, it's very affective. No damage with roads or small timber at all, and allows for percent select harvest.

      If it isn’t feasible,they wouldn’t do it.

Did I hear Mr. Bjarne in the background explaining the climbing technique I think I did...I know the heli he works with said Ericksnon on it I have seen before kinda putting 2 an 2 together..He's one of my fave fellers man is surgical with a saw I cut my share of wood and I can hang with most ppl but I can tell ya he is an animal with a saw I'm sure many others are too who work up there..I logged in Maine so we cut a lot of the same wood as you guys do up in Canada heck a lot of our wood especially fir and spruce go to Canada..Love having an office 90 miles out in nature not much beats that...Unless you hit some wasps or bees that's a bad day lol...

Yeah, I thought so too, although I thought it was Bjarne doing the tree climbing at 0:47, recognize that smile of his, even if he does look a bit younger here unless it could have been his Dad? Bjarne certainly is a beast with a chainsaw, a skilled as tree feller, and great bloke.

"Poles" or logs cut for telephone poles are generally 100' in Oregon. I can't imagine driving them out on a very serpentine logging road. I think those have to be lifted out.

What ids the purpose of "hot saw" logging vs standing stem. Don't you still have to standing stem log the remaining stem?

    • @ee-mon-ee1653

It's much easier on the environment and I would guess less chance of breakages where it weighs much less...I have never done this way myself but picking it up with the heli once it just about ready to drop while it's still standing is the goal here I believe it never touches the ground. Yeah you see them do exactly that little later in the vid smart really harder work but saves a ton of wood and the small trees around it.

Expensive log of course they get to harvest nice straight ones and don't deal with any junk the climber earned his keep for Shure I like the grapling hook climbing with 80lb of kit sucks

High value timber on rough ground. Conventional falling would result in a lot of breakage .
