THIS PERFORMANCE WAS THEE FIRST I HAD EVER HEARD OF PATTI! IT CHANGED MY LIFE FOREVER! I FELL IN LOVE FROM THAT MOMENT TO THIS DAY! IRONICALLY, I AM GOING TO SEE HERBKIVE TOMORROW AT THE MET IN PHILLY! NEVER DISAPPOINTED! LOVE ME SOME PATTI PATTI!!❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
The original version by Judy Garland is so poignant, harrowing and sad. Yearning for something you can't reach or achieve. It's so beautiful in its honest declaration of helplessness. Patti's version is more hopeful. The lyrics are changed at one point to "I've got to get over the rainbow", a declaration that she will achieve this massive feat. It's almost like a Gospel song of hope. Plus, to sing this anthem of hope at THIS particular event is utterly joyous and triumphant. What a phenomenal singer
I remember when this aired. We were fighting to make Martin Luther King Jr birthday a national federal holiday. I adore Patti. She’s definitely in my top 5 favorite vocalist of all time. When she sang You Are My Friend it was a sight to behold…Patti would kick off her shoes and roll around on the floor but those vocals were lit. Can’t wait for your next reaction --hopefully it will be this: ua-cam.com/video/FvWdnimqgeA/v-deo.html
@@thebranchchronicles You should know that I have very eclectic taste in music, lol. Whitney is ALWAYS number 1, then it’s Minnie Riperton, then there’s Natalie Cole, then Aretha Franklin, then Patti…after Patti there’s a tie with Angela Winbush, Donna Summers, Ella Fitzgerald, Anita Baker, Dionne Warwick and Beyoncé.
This is why Queen Aretha is Patti's Mentor because Queen Aretha is the Queen of Runs from low to high ,listen to Aretha Song Good To Me As I Am To You ,Patti just lacks control when singing with others .which is an because Patti tried that with Al Green and he Cut her high vocals short , because when Al hit his notes Patti said ahh shoot !! Yes I'm a first tenor like Al ,and from the Church nothing better .

Folks love her because she brings the drama with those wig snatching, handing out seats vocals.

I'd love to know who else is in your Top 5 vocalists... and I'll add it to the list. I enjoyed hearing Nippy sing changed
