- Long live the Queen of the Skies. With over 1,500 orders, the 747 is indeed truly iconic. One of the longer videos I have uploaded by this is SpeedbirdHD's favorite aircraft type. I am sure my fans who love the Queen will have no issues watching a video this long.

The Boeing 747 is a wide-body commercial jet airliner and cargo aircraft, often referred to by its original nickname, Jumbo Jet, or Queen of the Skies. Its distinctive "hump" upper deck along the forward part of the aircraft makes it among the world's most recognizable aircraft, and it was the first wide-body produced. Manufactured by Boeing's Commercial Airplane unit in the United States, the original version of the 747 had two and a half times greater capacity than the Boeing 707, one of the common large commercial aircraft of the 1960s. First flown commercially in 1970, the 747 held the passenger capacity record for 37 years.
The four-engine 747 uses a double deck configuration for part of its length. It is available in passenger, freighter and other versions. Boeing designed the 747's hump-like upper deck to serve as a first class lounge or extra seating, and to allow the aircraft to be easily converted to a cargo carrier by removing seats and installing a front cargo door. Boeing did so because the company expected supersonic airliners (development of which was announced in the early 1960s) to render the 747 and other subsonic airliners obsolete, while the demand for subsonic cargo aircraft would be robust well into the future. The 747 was expected to become obsolete after 400 were sold, but it exceeded critics' expectations with production passing the 1,000 mark in 1993. By March 2016, 1,520 aircraft had been built, with 23 of the 747-8 variants remaining on order.
The 747-400, the most common passenger version in service, has a high-subsonic cruise speed of Mach 0.85-0.855 (up to 570 mph or 920 km/h) with an intercontinental range of 7,260 nautical miles (8,350 mi or 13,450 km). The 747-400 passenger version can accommodate 416 passengers in a typical three-class layout, 524 passengers in a typical two-class layout, or 660 passengers in a high density one-class configuration. The newest version of the aircraft, the 747-8, is in production and received certification in 2011. Deliveries of the 747-8F freighter version to launch customer Cargolux began in October 2011; deliveries of the 747-8I passenger version to Lufthansa began in May 2012.
I think B747 is plane that represents spirit of flying, and it's sad to even think about they are retiring. 😔 Really nice tribute i have to say.
Adam Lewis its a monumental flying machine! The 747 there is simply no other aircraft that can compete with its service ceiling on planet earth. The A380 is a shit aircraft although 747 is smaller than A380 its still a lumbering beast

I started flying internationally in 1967 with the 707s. We were impressed by its capabilities. When the 747 came along, a new international standard of travel was born. That aircraft has been the standard bearer,and continues to influence the other competitors, but when all is said and done, the 747 will be the champion aircraft (like the DC-3 in its day) -- given the number of people who have had the pleasure of flying that splendid aircraft. The 747 design, used by Pan Am crew personnel on those around the world flights, provided true comfort on those long haul flights for the flying public. Thanks Boeing!!!
A truly iconic plane indeed. I remember years ago I was on the tarmac at KIN and Air Canada's then daily 747 service descended out of the clouds (it was raining). It was a spectacular sight. Thanks for sharing this.
I was walking along the beach in West Sussex and I looked up and saw the blue and white fuselage of a BA 747-400 shinning in the sunset

Thoses sp's are a rare bird indeed,and for the life of me i can't rememeber as to how many sp's were built.Are you sadden as much as i am over Boeing has ceased production of the almighty Queen of the skies!!

Truly a wonderful video,thanx. This plane changed aviation,a masterpiece from Boeing and Mr. Sutter. The iconic shape,the majestic landing...For me it,s the most beautiful airliner in the world and yes it lost the battle against the 777,787,A350 but there will never be an aircraft so famous as the 747. I salute the ""Queen of the skies" .
That bird is very close to my ❤️ heart because it sounds great it looks magnificent. It in fact was the first specific type of aircraft I'd ever heard of.

That Delta was a smoker ! It was the first delivery of the 747-400 to northwest of course . It’s now on display at the Delta museum at Atlanta Hartsfield

By 2040 rare Boeing 747-200 and other variants are very rare.

The 747-200, you probably won't even see any -200's past 2020, they're almost out of service now, there is very few flying and 99% of them are cargo only.

No it's not that you're Dutch, it's just that the KLM queen of the skies really is sexy, and i am a Canadian. I just can't believe that we're slowly seeing less and less of the 747's, soon there is gone be very little of 747's left in passenger versions, especially the 747-400's. But we're still gone see 747 freighters for at least another 50 years and 747-8's in passenger service, except a lot less then we're seeing now of the -400 series. I love Lufthansa, Korean Air and Air China, for buying the passenger version of the 747-8i to continue the 747 legacy.

Very very sad to tell your Air Newzealands last 747 as shown in 10:58 was fully decommisioned in September 2014.
Air NZ no longer have a fleet of 747's and very sad that her days are done. Wonderful to see the new 747-8 are still flying high.

It's a 747sp. They were built short a while ago to get longer ranger, even though today there are much bigger aircraft with longer range. All of the ones left are for VIP ops.

According to reports in Christian Science Monitor and other media, Air Force One is one of the 2 remaining 747-200 still in service, commercial 747-200's having been retired many years ago, in March 2016 Boeing received orders for 3 new 747-8 Air Force One aircraft, to be delivered 2 years after President Obama leaves office, the current paint scheme and interior decor suggested by Jacqueline Kennedy.

great video guys, love the intro shot. excellent quality filming of the best looking plane ever made. have to say, just from these clips it looks like all the pilots try to treat their planes with respect and gentle landings. BA pilots seem to land the softest. I miss my days of flying in the 747, everyones gone to the a380 for long haul from uk to asia.
