Thank you. Brought back memories of my three year stay in Pakistan in the early ‘90s and still earlier visit in 1965. I had the good fortune to visit most parts of this large country. While the north is truly spectacular, there is much to see further south in the interior and along the coast - from Gwadar to Karachi.
@@cringeasf8618 At that time I drove with friends from Delhi(where we were all posted as diplomats) to Kabul and back, including a side trip to Swat. No security problems within Pakistan or Afghanistan. As for prosperity etc, that is a huge subject! Suffice to say, India, in particular, in now a major industrial power, whereas in the 1960s it was not. I love Pakistan, one of the most beautiful countries ever, its’ people are wonderful and the sites are breathtaking, definitely I will be back inshaAllah
I came of age in the mid to late 1970s in Pakistan. It was a wonderful place. Slow pace, one took one's time to do things, great social life; there was no "load shedding," water shortages, prices touching the sky and all the ill you see now. The cities have really deteriorated. You cannot tell much about any place as a tourist unless you live there for a year or so. I never thought that Pakistan was a dangerous place but for the vast majority of people, poverty is the issue. Like most people from third world countries, folks leave for the West for purely economic reasons. Period. And as far as the role of women, women have always worked in Pakistan. Women work in the fields in the villages and there are no hijabs there. The hijab is quite an urban thing. My mother worked for The Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation for a number of years in Rawalpindi back in the early 1970s. Women are in all walks of life. Hell, there are female fighter pilots in the Pakistan Airforce! What Pakistan does not need is Western style rabid feminism, a movement that has already destroyed the family.
