  • Here is a video I made of me looking for treasure in a freshwater river. It was shot over the course of several trips, but at the same site. I find both historic and modern artifacts.

Those iron ferry tips are quite nice and would make an excellent display. That's the nice thing about rivers because any more so much of the land has been hunted at some point but the water is a sort of last frontier for the metal detectorist. A point made clear by many of the finds in your videos! Best Wishes and Happy Hunting Beau!

At 5:10. that's a military 2-sided flare. Smoke on one end, flare for night on the other. I used them in the Air Force. The bumpy end was for night.. Remembered that by 'Bumps at night'

The fishing rig is a Ambassadeur made by Abu Garcia in Sweden, i think the model is 7000i, incredible quality on the Ambassadeur rolls, my oldest one is about 40 years old and has been used by 3 generations of my family - Never changed a part, just cleaning and greasing it from time to time.

at 5:13 you picked an aluminium cylinder with a red lookin lever on it and didn't know what it was.. It is a Mark 124 Smoke/Flare used by US military pilots and some ground forces to signal for help or extraction.. Probably someone stole it from work and fired it off to impress his buddies or kids..

At 5:12, Thats a MK 124 Day/Night Flare. Used by the Navy and Coast Guard. Each end of the flare produces a different effect. Day end produces orange smoke and the night end produces a red flame. The day end looks it was activated but I cant tell about the night end because the rubber cap is still on. It is no more dangerous then the road flares you can keep in the trunk of your car. Hope it helps!

you know what would look amazing?? I had this crazy idea while you were holding the fishing rod and that largemouth bass swam in front of you at 4:30....You should go scuba diving one day, and take one of those poles you found underwater and set it up with some sort of appropriate lure, and fish for some of those bass while you're underwater scuba diving, and film it. How insane would that be to watch yourself catch a fish while you're underwater in the fish's domain and home turf? Anybody can catch a bass from shore or a boat, but it takes a real badass to catch one on a rod while you're underwater. I think that would make for an amazing video and some really unique footage that would probably get shared all over Facebook and every other website just for the shear originality of it.

You could've pulled all of those anchors up to the top and made some kind of boat anchor memorial! (I joke)... But I'd go back for that Muskie rig, what the hell, something for the effort. Damn that looks like fun! I like your detector videos. I'm nowhere near where anything could be pulled up,(without being considered an historical artifact and be given to whatever historical institution had jurisdiction.) Here in Portland Oregon, history is just too close to the present day, unless the Indian tribes own it... I guess I'll just keep enjoying the videos and dreaming of tripping over huge chunks of precious goodies. Thanks for the videos!

5:10 That could be a flashbang, often used by SWAT teams and militairy to clear out buildings easier. At least, it makes me think about that. If it is, it still is active. I would go to the local Police and ask them to be sure. Do NOT transport unless in a ammobox. A flashbang does what the name says, when it goes boom it will make a bright blinding light. It is pretty much a explosive. So please be carefull and get the Police to see what it is. If it is indeed a flashbang, ask them to take it with them so they can dispose of it the right way. But again, not sure.
    Great vid again, thanks!

Nice video Beau, I know it's almost impossible to take everything you find you would have to have a whole crew working to do that, and I don't think it's any different than someone swinging a detector on land and cherry picking a site most all of us do that from time to time. I like the two Danforth anchors you showed on film they are what is used her in Michigan due to mostly sandy bottoms. Thanks for sharing Beau. Riverat2013 and I, will be heading south to do some detecting and to get out of the frozen north the first part of February. Best to you on your next adventure.
