The Norwegian Melodi Grand Prix 2024 took place tonight inside Trondheim Spektrum. After four shows, Gåte won with the song "Ulveham" and will represent Norway at the Eurovision Song Contest 2024 in Malmö

Yeeeey Gåte is amazing! The singer Gunnhild actually sang at my cousins wedding when she was only 14 years old, and my uncle helped the band get started 🥰 Their quality is top tier!

The "hunting sound" in the beginning is a song to lure cows back to barn for the night and it is thousand years old. ESC has already said it's ok for them to use it, but they had to re-write the rest of the song before the MGP final .

I've been a fan of Gåte since 2003! They've got soo many good songs! Check out "Sjå Attende", "Iselilja", "Kom No Disjka", "Knut Liten", "Kjærleik", "Bruremarsj frå Jämtland" UGH! I love Keiino, I adore their music and have many of their songs on my playlist, but I was disappointed with their contribution this year. They were robbed when we sent Tix instead of Monument, but this time around I definitely think sending Gåte was absolutely the right choice. It's a fantastic, captivating song, the atmosphere is so strong. It's a stand-out type of song, and it was absolutely my favourite this year.

Every genre has good and bad music. Finding the good music and forgetting anout the bad, is very rewarding.
@@th5841 this is why I love Eurovision because I get to explore new genres and like genres which I usually don’t like outside the Eurovision world,but I do have a really strong bias over female pop songs and quite frankly, female songs in general. I’m a sucker for a female singing voice

Btw, not just the 1st song in Norwegian since "Alvedansen" in 2006, but I think it's the 1st Eurovision song in Nynorsk dialect.

@@philipdawson7800 it can be a bit confusing as it's a bit of a different system. But basically there are two forms of written Norwegian. Nynorsk being one of them and bokmål the other. There is no standardized version of spoken Norwegian and everyone just use their dialects. So one can't speak nynorsk(unless reading a text aloud)

Actually, the chorus is she vocalizing, there is not lyrics, and that makes this song more amazing. I love this entry.

The chorus is based on a traditional "lokk" which was used to call on the cows and sheeps in the mountains!

Not Norwegian, but so happy this got picked! I loved Keiino's song for how catchy it was but Eurovision is a great opportunity to show off traditional/cultural heritage.

After all these years my favourites from national selections are finally winning its insane. I haven't felt like this watching a performance since Tout l'Univers in 2021 (which is my all time fave). I suspect I already have my winner for this year
That instrument is a traditional Norwegian instrument called Langeleik.
Gunhild is also singing in an old Norwegian calling called Lokk,Gåte also mix other Norwegian traditional music,dialects and old Norwegian togheter with rock.
They are very popular here in Norway have won lots of music awards and their concerts are amazing, haunting and magical

I’m so happy Gåte won! I almost died when the announcement about them participating in MGP dropped in January!🤩 and the string instrument is called a "nøkkelharpe" it means key-harp.
Very good preformance , I totally expect this do do well, possible winner, but in that case, I think they need to step up the game when it comes capture the feeling of the song even more on the stage. But hey, if anyone is going after Sweden , tryng to stop them for a double winn in Malmø, I think this could be the act to do so ;)

Btw Noosh the string instrument is called the nyckelharpa. It originates from Sweden but its also preseent in Norwegian folk music.
In Norwegian, it is nøkkelharpe - which of course is the same word
There was a nyckelharpa also with Secret Garden in 1995, when Norway won.

I had such a heart attack with that televote. It was just 6 points between Gåte & KEiiNO in the end, that's how close it was (KEiiNO would have actually won with a 50/50 system).

I very excited for this song being performed on the Eurovision stage. This song is in my top 3 with Ukraine and Slovenia currently.
Just brilliant. It will storm the Malmo stage. There are a surprising number of disgruntled haters out there but they can’t vote against it. Currently top of the My Eurovision scoreboard by a long way. Will be interesting to see to see if Ukraine changes that. My top stays with Norway. ❤
If you are curious, this band has a number of albums over the past 20 odd years or so. If you enjoy stunning visuals in videos, their song/video 'Svarteboka' from last year is worth checking out. And from earlier in their career, 'Sjå Attende' is well worth a watch too.

Personally, I am not the biggest fan of this song, but I think it has a good chance of doing quite well if it makes it through the semi-final because it sounds very dramatic.

People on tiktok are like “ready for a nq” and “keiino would’ve won esc” like seriously? It’s a certain style of singing and the performance is captivating. And keiino would’ve done well with televote but they would not do well with the jury just like in 2019. They’re trying to cope so hard
IKR! So many people are not just saying that on tiktok but also on UA-cam shorts too! Like what? Gåte were the fan favourites this entire season so i expected to see many happy people but instead i saw salty keiino fans. Which isn't a suprise, they are likely just a loud vocal minority.

This was my favourite from the start. I have followed Gåte for many years. This is so Norwegian that it can get. I am so proud that we send Gåte to Eurovision.🇧🇻 The jury points counted 60 to 40%. They voted mostly Keino. And there song sounded like aqua on crack. But the people and gåte beat the jury. I't may not win eurovision because of the jury. But i really hope that Gåte and the european population show the jury wrong. Anyways, if they don't win. It doesn't matter. This is Norway🇧🇻

Ulveham is nowhere near that song imo.
Interesting that Muse would sound like an ancient folk song that was adapted to Gåte's own style with a modern folk and then rewritten for ESC 2024!

But then it wouldn’t be Norway selecting their song, but Europeans selecting Norway’s song. What a joke!
This system must be removed.
If we do a little calculation and devide the jury votes by 4 and then muliply by 6, to get a 50/50, Keiino would have gotten 294 points while Gåte would have gotten 288. Europe would then have overruled Norway’s choice by a tiny margine.
@@th5841 Yeah.. I get the idea behind the European jury, it's supposedly supposed to help boost songs that has a better shot in Europe, but it doesn't actually do that. If the song is not the one who won the televote, then the song isn't really representing the country, people needs to feel some sense of ownership and feel like they were a part of selecting the winner.

@@tashav5438 if you aren't familiar with a country's traditional folk music, and additionally don't know the language, its not out of the realm of possibility it will just sound like screaming and screeching. It does to me as well.
@@aekelly true it can be. But even so, from a tecnical standpoint it still isn't screaming or screeching. How we physically experiance a song, singer or style is a different matter. It's possible to have a negative physical reaction equivalent to someone screaming or screeching even though it isn't the same. That's valid. Same with dislike or not understanding. But people should be more aware and careful with using such characteristics, especially when folk/traditional music is involved.
Gåte is too much, too much shouting, too much passion, too much noise. A difficult song for the audience to sing, not because of the language but because it's in impossible notes for 90% of the people. I like the song but I think the rest of the people are only impressed by the level of the singer and not because there is a "winner alert".
