Another very enjoyable sailing adventure with your lovely family. Whenever mom starts cooking anything in the galley, my taste buds start going crazy.. What a great cook. Stay groovy and stay safe.
Beautiful spot for a haul-out. Looked painless, and very stress free. Excellent, and very impressive job on the hulls. Sail drives are in beautiful condition. Previous paint maintenance and staying out of marinas helps allot. Most people are probably not aware of why you spend so much time at anchor. Most go around thinking it's just only a money saving excuse on why you don't always rent a slip. Hurring and keeping the boat out of the water for a little as possible helps the antifoul paint greatly. To easy too just blame the paint manufacturer, and not take the proper precautions like I see so many times on boats. To paint, or not paint the props is a debate for the ages. Most people are doing it but doing it badly. It's normally a three-step process, and the paint you use of the hulls should not be used on props. The application needs to be harder. I'm a believer in spending the typical $200 at marinas that have the equipment to do it properly.
Teal, the next time you haul, plug all the thru hulls and pour VINEGAR into anything that hose attached. It will totally remove all calcium carbonate. in one shot. Talked to a friend and he said he puts it into the raw water strainer as he is under way. Works there too.
I loved seeing the Dolphins swimming alongside of you. Depicted as Mystical creatures, & Time travelers. So nice to see Emma taking on more responsibilities & learning more about the SVBasik. Those were nice looking fish you caught. The shrimp & salad looked really inviting. Great idea to enjoy on a hot summer evening when you don't want anything too heavy. Was good to see everyone. High paws for Compass. Enjoyed your video & the music seem to just compliment the video more. Great!
I watch a lot of the sailing channels. I got to admit the editing is awsome . Not staying on the same thing for to long and going to the next. It is a fact you will not go hungry on your boat. Good job to all three of ya.

There is nothing basic about the Crew of Basik. Cool Emma is covering night shifts, she's totally ready. Increase from 4.5 to 7 kts from cleaning and prop pitch tweak. Awesome.
I just marvel at the technology of that travel lift. The comments about the pitch of the props makes sense. Now you can waterski! Love the show, thanks for posting.
Taking on more responsibilities while under way is a fantastic right of passage! I was twelve when I stood my first three-hour watch and I'll never forget the feeling of pride that my dad trusted me. Great good luck and congratulations to Emma!
I'm surprised that Teal hasn't already set the props to the ideal prop pitch where it still reaches maximum engine rpm without any cavitation. If not for efficiency, for safety. Higher boat speed means better chance to avoid bad weather. I hope Emma takes advantage of this wonderful time in her life to learn as much seamanship as she can and work towards her Captains licence. It opens up options that not having keeps closed. Ferrying boats around the world is a great way to see the far off places on someone else's dime. :)
We initially contacted kiwi props regarding our concern and at first they said everything was pitched perfectly. After meeting the rep in Marina Del Rey, he suggested we adjust the pitch. Emma is having the experience of a lifetime and she is 100% taking it all in. 😊
nice to see you folks back in the water. Emma your an incredible young lady, nice to see you expanding both your horizons and responsibilities. Well done everyone, smooth sailing.
I enjoy your video’s BECAUSE you both speak clearly and easy to understand and your sailing vessel is “by far” the cleanest of all the sailing video’s I enjoy. I wish there was a way to get Onboard Lifestyle, SV Delos, Zatara and Millennial Falcon together for a BS session. Teal, Brian and Keith are much the same in the area of intelligence plus “good” people. Zatara’s in Africa but SV Delos is in your area Teal, make it happen.
Looks like a very easy splash and Linh back at the galley making some very inviting dishes Emma is a very capable young lady who has good teachers that would fit on any crew nice to see the captain has planned the itinerary to a tee as usual its nice too see you where you belong be careful and sail with the wind my friends God love ❤ ya
Just looking at your plastic diesel tanks, the yellow seems to be fading. Have you thought of making a canvas dodger to go over them to stop the UV light destroying them?
All the work on the hard, behind you. No lawns to mow and no big house to clean and free at last, how really cool 😎. Enjoy each precious day God has made for your family. The Bear 🐻 🙏🙏🙏🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
That's old school. I grew up on my Fathers cruising trimaran in the late 70's with some high tech navigation devices...a Loran-C and an RDF. We could accurately calculate our location within a tight 50 mile triangle.
Surely looks nice out there. Funny how a slight change in prop pitch can make so much difference.....saves both engine and fuel too. ...clear sailing!!
I'm sure somewhere in all these comments is my answer, ( but I normally don't read everyone else's stuff) but the ❓ question is,, 5 gallons burn, at what RPM and speed are you going? You might have said but don't remember, with or without a current to assist? 5 gallons, and all that distance, that's like nothing.. I'm impressed!!
We have twin Yanmar 3YM30 engines with SD20 saildrives. Running one engine at a time burns under 0.5 gph @ 2000 rpms on flat seas with no current is 5 knts.
I edited a few sentences at the end again. See ya next week. Shine on. And Emma did you pass by that rock on time enough for you. Would hate to see you be late and miss it. 😆
For the no-seeums and mosquitoes 🦟 please get the “ skin so soft “, from Avon. It’s an clear oil that those pests can’t stand and stay’s away. I use it in a mist bottle, it really works and you will smell pretty!
2 Fish with ur hand line seem's like a good day of fishing. i remember a few years back, guy's saying they had their best luck catching fish at around 4 knots. Just wondering.... where you guys running at 6-7 knot's when you caught ur fish ??
Thank you for sharing your life with us, I really look forward to seeing all three of you each week. Be safe, stay healthy and enjoy your life, it looks amazing and beautiful. I love your attitudes with the bugs and hard boat work, this is inspiring as well. Emma you are growing up to be such a sweet young lady, your mom and dad as well as extended family members must be very proud of you. Congrats on your night watch, you did it!!!
Another great video this Week! Linh, Your shrimp salad looked extremely tasty. I am wondering, what kind of dressing did you add to it? also, I am wondering, was the lettuce Romaine or Butter Lettuce? In any case, you are very talented in the kitchen. Emma, I laugh every time you comment with the "Mwaaa" kisses to your momma's cooking skills! You really crack me up 🤣 Teal, You are doing a great job catching your meals. I am wondering, Do you have to have a fishing license from Mexico or are you in international waters, so you don't need a license? Have a great weekend you guys, Denny
Those 'night vision' shots make me think of vampires.. a la Lost Boys & Salem's Lot.. Spooky. I keep expecting to see evil-fangs and a 'jump scare'. :)
Great peek into your lives and I must say it looks Wonderful......Emma good work taking your part but I think compass should share some...I haven't seen him lately!
Emma is doing a great job at taking on more onboard. Unfortunately Compass is not allowed in the cockpit once the sun sets. He likes to hang out on the edge. He's a sneaky little guy. 😜

Somebody might just have to go on a diet God forbid... Should be good fishing all round there for the rain man and rain girl.... And Linh being the raining Queen your job is to keep track of each fish 🐠🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐠 gobbled up ......
@@linhgobenyt I know, I was a few years younger than Emma when I did my first night shift Sydney to Pittwater and I had dolphins playing on my bow wave in the bioluminescence, I had no self steering (in the days before GPS) but it didn't matter hand steering was not even a chore in those conditions.
We stayed inside of the designed pitch range for the props. Our engines are the Yanmar 3YM30's which only produce around 28 HP at peak RPMS so I don't think our blades will experience much stress at all.
Hi Basik, been following u for yrs now, and looked forward to every adventure, but I gotta say it's feeling like more of a set production than a free flowing sailing channel. I would always get a reply from my comments and that stopped awhile ago. I miss the cooking, no more step by step just finished product. Its become very staged must be in the editing very point form, Anyway enjoy The Sea of Cortez and as always a hug for Compass. 🇦🇺🐕
Hey Karlene! We will definitely take your comment as a compliment on our editing skills. It's not easy, but we always try our best to improve with every video we put out for you guys. Connectivity sometimes hinders us from responding to every comment, but we do read them all. We always appreciate seeing your comments and loyal viewership. Don't think we don't notice. I will try to get more cooking segments in. 😊 i honestly didn't think anyone would enjoy seeing me cook. Lol Have a great weekend! Cheers!
@@linhgobenyt Hi Linh, thanks for replying, I'm smiling again, I understand the issue u face re: internet, time, location, jobs etc, I don't expect a reply all the time. And ur cooking is just superb, I'm sure there's a lot of people who love it. I guess I'm just missing the fun side of ur channel. If I could afford to become a patreon I most certainly would, Lots love Aussie Wench 🌈
@@linhgobenyt Yes but my reference was the “splash down” montage. You opened with a long sequence showing Basik being lifted and trucked over to the splash down slip for lowering into the water. My comment was tongue in cheek but it was not directed at how long you were on the hard. Congrats on being back on the water.
We have a 35 gallon tank for each engine and can carry 35 extra gallons on deck. So our potential range would be 1050 miles running on one engine at 5 knots. And unlimited range if we have a bit of wind.
Just curious: when you run just one engine, does the boat have the tendency to pull to one side since the prop is not along the centerline of the boat?
So it should be , what , at least 2 or 3 weeks before you haul out again ???? Prop pitch is evedently everything . Emma is fast growing into a beautiful young lady
It may seem like we haul out often but the intervals where about a year and a half each time. Port Townsend, Wa ( May 2019), Napa, Ca (Oct 2020), La Cruz, Mx (April 2022)
A long time ago you where on the hard, lying next to a Lagoon, and Teal talked about the weight of your vessel compared to the Lagoon. Since then you've upgraded sails and just about everything else, and I was expecting some kind of sea trails where you guys could take advantage of your light boat and narrow hulls. Have you done anything but sailing for motor in flat seas ever since? And how many times a year are you on the hard? I came here for the build, I stayed to see the performance of your vessel. What's the point of having a boat if it isn't to sail?! You seem to spend most of your time motoring between the marinas....
This channel is about the lifestyle of living onboard a sailing vessel, hence the channel name. Their goal has always been to use the boat to explore and right now that includes exploring Mexico. When going between ports, they sail as much as they can because they don't like motoring. Believe it or not, they can't always get the winds they need to sail to the place they need to go. They aren't really obliged to operate based on your expectations. They have hauled out three times, Port Townsend, Wa ( May 2019), Napa, Ca (Oct 2020), La Cruz, Mx (April 2022). They spend as little time as possible in marinas. Most of the time in port, they are at anchor.
Pleased Emma you have been given more responsibility. Should start your own channel as it would be good to see life onboard from your perspective. Teal these "weather windows" where you always use your engine, and the sea is flat calm: has the vessel ever been out in anything above a Force 2 ? LOL You must be the most cautious Skipper ever..well done.
You guys could improve the production quality of your videos by gradually fading in/out of the music. This video in particular has harsh transition. Everything else is perfect!
Another very enjoyable sailing adventure with your lovely family. Whenever mom starts cooking anything in the galley, my taste buds start going crazy.. What a great cook. Stay groovy and stay safe.

Kinda looked like this one even. Emma's certainly loves watching from the port front bow there ... That was a beautiful view. What a gorgeous day ... Even porpoises...I felt I was right there...Keep on shining you guys. Two fish for the day wasn't bad... But someone is going to have to be satisfied with only one serving tonight...unless Linh performs her magic act again in the kitchen...I know she'll think up something that smells delicious 😋. We want to see more of your preparation ... You r always prepared to cook and someone will be disappointed if you don't have enough to cook for those extra mouths to feed...
Congrats Emma on the night shift, I hope the bioluminescence cam out to greet you and make the evening more magical.
They are mesmerizing to see at night. Emma now wants more night shifts!
Thanks Dave! 😁
I Googled it...Mazatlan is the shrimp capital of the world. Sorry Linh.
Lol, I know. 🤣🤣🤣 Captain knows best!
+2.5 knots? Awesome! Would altering the pitch of the prop decrease or increase the stress put on the blades?
p.s. The Rainman says, K-Mart sucks ;-)
We stayed inside of the designed pitch range for the props. Our engines are the Yanmar 3YM30's which only produce around 28 HP at peak RPMS so I don't think our blades will experience much stress at all.
@@OnboardLifestyle I will take your word for it Teal, good show man.
what are your bigger plans after the sea of cortez?
Have you guys considered clipping into lifelines? Kinda makes me nervous.
The only thing better than visiting the shrimp capital would be to visit the scallop capital, wherever that is. 🍤
Challenge accepted...Digby, Nova Scotia here we come!
Do you think a Sharrow propeller might help?
Hi, love your journey i Mexico. I was wondering, are you going to the Caribien side?
This is the third time I've watched a splash-down montage on your channel.and I swear each time they get longer and longer.:-))
Are you kidding me?! I was so happy this haulout was under a week. I call that impressive! 😜
How big is your fuel tank
We have a 35 gallon tank for each engine and can carry 35 extra gallons on deck. So our potential range would be 1050 miles running on one engine at 5 knots. And unlimited range if we have a bit of wind.
how much is fuel down in mexico ?
About $5 usd per gallon.
Just curious: when you run just one engine, does the boat have the tendency to pull to one side since the prop is not along the centerline of the boat?
Not noticeable once we are at speed.
careful at 1:36 it will blow your ears out!!!! It did mine...........
Lol, you should have been there live! It was way louder in-person. We wanted you to get the full effect. 😜
Mazatlan , Google says Shrimp capital of the world
Nice video, but how she do school on the boat?
What RPM before and now?
Same RPM.
For the no seeums. “Skin So Soft” Old Alabama trick.
Can't get it here. Definitely on our list when we are back in the states.

Watch your sound! It almost blew out my speakers and scared the Helll out of me!
I have a question for Emma. Does your mom like being called “Shorty”?
.
@@OnboardLifestyle So I've been hanging around for over three years? Wow! 🙂
@@genewaddlerandomstuff2122 and we love ya for that!
Here's a gratuitous comment for your analytics.
And here is a response for the same reason. 😉
I am sure you want to be done and just play but it's time to sell Basik and get a new project, I miss the making/fixing/building things content.
And I'm sure you've missed the entire purpose of this channel. It's about living onboard, which means going places and fixing things as needed.
Lol, well tune in to next week's video. Got a doozy for ya!
@@linhgobenyt been patiently waiting for what is coming next week…looking forward to it 😃
I hear you need some education on the concept of volume leveling.
Pleased Emma you have been given more responsibility. Should start your own channel as it would be good to see life onboard from your perspective.
Teal these "weather windows" where you always use your engine, and the sea is flat calm: has the vessel ever been out in anything above a Force 2 ? LOL
You must be the most cautious Skipper ever..well done.
You guys could improve the production quality of your videos by gradually fading in/out of the music. This video in particular has harsh transition. Everything else is perfect!
