awesome suggestion to do that Alternate G to Little F transition. I couldn't get past the G to F Barre transition. now i can move on and learn the rest of the song. definitely a fun song.
It is amazing how two simple chords, D and G, can be used to create an iconic instantly recognizable intro, just by subtly varying the strumming and rhythm patterns. Excitement!
I have fond memories of using this as a bit of fun relief during rehearsals. Half way through we would get a brew, catch our breath, then all swap instruments and play through this for a giggle. 🎸😂
Great lesson, thanks! The late 70’s/ early 80’s were so great for punk, with bands like the Clash and my favorite, the Skids, taking the genre ironically to quite a high level of sophistication.
Another great video Justin. You've got such a brilliant way of breaking these songs down and explaining how they're played - best on UA-cam. Learned so much from you - never going to be great myself, but enjoying it tremendously. Cheers!
This song was made for you man! Great job. Don’t know if you have any time for requests but would love to see a video on how you create/record your UA-cam videos. Thanks Justin!
Saw them at King George's Hall Blackburn 1978, me and half a dozen others, spotty teenagers full of angst watching a soundcheck. Also at Manchester Apollo, when the front seats were torn out.
So I'm just mindlessly scrolling youtube videos, seeing what the algorithm throws up. Then I come across a new Justin guitar tutorial. Play it, pick up my guitar and play along and now I have a whole new song in my repertoire in about 10 minutes. Nice! Great tutorial Justin
That was excellent. Thanks for posting this Justin. It's a simple tune but who needs a bunch of complicated finger breakers when the outcome sounds like this?

Great lesson justin, after years of playing guitar i think that its useful to come back to somehow simpler songs to realize that not everything is about speed and expertise
I think the transition you demonstrated onto the second verse of the song makes it so much easier to play, even if your a beginner guitar player. Other guitarists implemented a different technique onto that second verse, which made me a little confused
This is probably the most fun song ive been learning and its so easy to sing to it too, thanks for giving us this amazing lesson. Found another way to play that G -> F transition by barring but muting the low E string with the tip of my index finger. Its way easier for me cause i play bar chords or with my thumb around the neck. Maybe anyone can use this tip too :D
Justin. This is great. I watch loads of your videos but I notice that you don’t often mention what sort of amp settings or effects you use on the songs to get the right sound. Please could you advise us more on this and maybe quickly mention this on each song. Thanks Gary
Justin uses a Kemper profiler in virtually all of his videos these days. On the website, many songs have further info on getting the sound for songs (though this one doesn't). He doesn't give specifics in each lesson because he keeps to the relevant learning parts and everybody has different guitars / amps / equipment too. www.justinguitar.com/songs www.justinguitar.com/donate Cheers 😊 | Richard_close2u | JustinGuitar Official Guide & Approved Teacher
Excellent cover justin to an absolute classic song to play on guitar and i can play this one fairly well on guitar myself thanks to my teacher who taught it me couple years back now but i was doing the strumming bit using up motion for the chrous bit so will refine that to what you shown in the video its just getting that fancy f chord down quick enough i find tricky with and never really bothered to add that little twiddle at the start of it so will practice that from now on and in the fast bit also i was doing the g to f bit further up the neck too using power chords but felt it a bit sore on the fingers going to that spot quickly but they wernt used to it back then so will give this new approach ago now
Great lesson as always Justin! I have one request - when you do a lesson using the electric guitar can you quickly go over your amp settings for that song so we can understand how you got that tone. Thanks, keep the punk lessons coming!

Well said!
Absolutely! I think Bowie is a great example of that, maybe the best example.
Where have the Clash tutorials been? It's criminal that this is your first one. MORE CLASH!!! Spanish Bombs next :D
I have fond memories of using this as a bit of fun relief during rehearsals. Half way through we would get a brew, catch our breath, then all swap instruments and play through this for a giggle. 🎸😂
Absolutely love this song. Had no idea it was this simple!
Bring on some more clash lessons. Thanks Justin

this is one of my all-time favourite lessons justin
Awesome lesson - it popped up at the end of a 2 hour practise session and I still had to try it! Great work as always!
Thank you so much for your videos Justin. A couple of sentences about the effects/tone/pickup selection of each song might be a plus too.
Great lesson justin, after years of playing guitar i think that its useful to come back to somehow simpler songs to realize that not everything is about speed and expertise
From Brazil,Rio de Janeiro, your lessons are amazing.
Hell yeah Clash! Thanks dude, most charming teacher on youtube by a long shot

When The Clash went the Lou Reed path with their guitar and it was awesome.
Absolutely loving this, massive clash fan please more👍
Great lesson. Love your guitar btw. A Grestch, Gibson, and Fender wrapped in the most comfortable and iconic electric guitar shape ever.
This is probably the most fun song ive been learning and its so easy to sing to it too, thanks for giving us this amazing lesson.

Yesterday was international The Clash day on 88.5 WXPN in Philadelphia. Their version of pressure drop is somehow even better than Robert Palmer’s
Forgot how good this song was and never realised it was so easy to play
Great lesson as always Justin! I have one request - when you do a lesson using the electric guitar can you quickly go over your amp settings for that song so we can understand how you got that tone. Thanks, keep the punk lessons coming!
John Williams...have u learnt nothing? U turn all ur settings to 11 doh..
