Charlamagne Tha God: Harness Your Superpowers
Вставка
- Опубліковано 12 вер 2022
- Charlamagne Tha God (The Breakfast Club radio show, Comedy Central’s Hell of a Week, bestselling author, philanthropist) discusses his journey to discovering his true self apart from his famous radio persona, how CBT therapy taught him to unlearn, and his positive and frightening encounters with the spirit realm. He opens up about his history of panic attacks, the vigilance he developed while selling drugs, and how anxiety can sometimes be his superpower. Charlamagne details growing up Jehovah’s Witness, why he believes God is a woman, and the origins of his dark sense of humor. He explains why he uses his authentic, unapologetic voice to touch on touchy subjects, especially around mental health gaps in the Black community, including the intergenerational trauma and institutional racism that can prevent minorities from seeking support. Mayim and Charlamagne consider anxiety around returning to our hometowns and bond over their love for Marvel comics and Judy Blume books.

Jonathan talking about going home and feeling like you have to be the version of yourself they used to know. I felt that way every time I came home to visit for the 9 years I lived across the country. Now that I've been living at home (right back to my childhood bedroom) for about a year, I can't help but feel that way at least a little every day. I spent my 20's healing & it's hard to show my family that 32 year old me is not the same 22 year old that moved out.
Thanks so much for sharing your experience, Kristin, and please remember you're not alone. We hope you feel validated and connected to the many that share that circumstance. Sending you continued strength!! 🧠🫶
@@MayimBialik Fox news, CNN, MSNBC, ABC News, NBC news, CBS are all child rapist!
They have known all these years that I’ve been in a dungeon and that TV shows were being made using children!!
Child rape is part of this cult... they are rapist
Tucker Carlson how many kids have you raped today?
Get me to Dan Larimer #MoreEqualAnimals
Love Charlemagne’s joy, depth, trust in life, and authenticity.
This is a crossover of my favorite people, I love the podcast and I love breakfast club
Please bring him back along with that woman he mentioned. This episode totally made my day and I've learned so much about myself today. Thank you for giving me a reason to keep coming back to your show and helping so many people grow too. 😎🤘💜
A Mayim x Charlamagne x Judy Blume mashup is our dream, too! We're so glad this episode resonated with you, and thanks very much for watching!! 🧠🫶
@@MayimBialik YASS! ^^^ that will be a fabulous interview/program.
I'm hopping over to Breakfast Club, now. Never heard of it - looking forward!
Being from The South Bronx and having grown up as a Jehovah's Witness who now lives in SC, i feel SO connected to this podcast. Also grew up reading Judy Blume!! 💃🏽🤸🏽♀️💃🏽💕
Kindred spirits! Thanks very much for watching!!
@@MayimBialik YAY!! 🎊 Watching you through the years till now, I've always felt that! 💕
I have read both books. Highly recommend!
I’m not rap not hip-hop listener and being abroad I didn’t knew him prior today. But, guys, such a WOW episode (again!). Now I’m not sure if I watched the most extravagantly lit and special person or the best furnished headed man! Such a 1:17:35 trip! And that’s also the amazing thing of this fabulous podcast has: it always lets you thinking and the wheels of your brain going..even after you watch the episode twice! And I’m so grateful for this, Mayim & Jonathan! Only the ones that put in a podcast the amount of effort and intelligence you both put/have can hit the nail episode after episode! 💜
Mayim your ability to connect with so many different people from all backgrounds is incredible and inspiring. Great questions and conversation. 💖
Jonathan mentioned a new term that made me stop in my mental tracks when he said "energyl magic" I sooo related to that. Thank you!!!
I don't listen to a lot of hip hop or rap style music so I don't know much about this fella and his story. However, I'm going to check out his book on anxiety after this. Thanks for having him on the show. I'm glad I got to learn a little about him today.
We can't recommend his books enough! So glad this episode resonated with you, JL, and thanks very much for watching!!
@@MayimBialik you're really awesome Dr Bialik! You're one of the best actresses ever!
@@MayimBialik Thanks so much! You do a great job with this podcast and I look forward to reading his book. Have a great week!
He isn't a musician actually, he is a radio personality, and as Mayim said, an author. I can see the confusion, maybe, with his interesting name. He interviews them though.
😆 He isn’t a rapper though
That's a part of life...Changing crowds...That happens when we go from Middle School to High School....we don't take friends with us. It's a part of being an adult and leaving people in the past. Life moves on,and we can only go forward in life. He is very wise. He has a lot of good advice and he is very wise.
Jonathan, that was such a nice observation to say that Charlemagne Tha God's superpower is keeping things calm, while speaking his truth and holding his space. At the start of the show he had no idea who you were. Your superpower is being able to listen well, and engage any guest one on one, calmly and intelligently, no matter who they are.
I absolutely love the wide variety of guests that you two interview! Kudos to you both for being open and inquisitive (and doing your research) to draw each person out for fascinating interviews!
Wow, thanks so much for the thoughtful note, Elaine!! We greatly appreciate you watching!
Loved what he said about God being a woman.... Certainly makes sense.
Super Awesome that you went on Wheel of Fortune and won money for the organization CTG told you about. That's just fantastic!!!😊😊😊
What an interesting unknown (to me) person! I’ll buy his book ab anxiety after watching this episode. Btw, Dr. Shefali’s THE RADICAL AWAKENING dedicated by Mayim I “won” on one of MBB give away & that was my best birthday gift, is an EXCEPTIONAL one! As Michael Singers ones I read in Spanish, Steve Leder’s “The beauty of what remains”, or Dr. B’s both ones, or..LOL! I’ll need new shelves & space on my Mac to read all books recommended here!
As a woman, I love when Charlemagne speaks about God beeing a woman, though I, as my agnostic grandad used to say, think that “if you can understand and explain Him, is not God”. Thank you MB & JC for this (my) one and only podcast! You make my life better! And that is precious and priceless!
28:34 = Proverbs 15:1 -- “A soft word turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.” exactly this : )
I love this episode! My favorite discussion is about healing your past selfs …I still love my high school & college “self” but also that’s not the version I wanna be …I’m gonna be 27 and I know God is calling me to really start over. I can’t forget my past but I know a new version of myself has to happen. I’m excited to start a new journey
Yesss! I was so happy to see this pop up on your video list this morning! Great interview. 🖤
Thanks so much for watching, Amber!
I love his headphones!!!
I have watched and rewatched all the episodes...
This is my favorite. Still. 💜
Thanks mayim for having charlamagne on the podcast 🙂
It was an immense honor for us! Thanks so much for watching, Angela!!
I hope Judy Blume goes onto his show
Me too 💛💛
I have been watching your channel for a good while now and have even told my therapist about your channel and things that I have learned. Keep up the good work you guys. You are helping people.
Thanks so much for sharing the podcast, and for the kind feedback, Paula!! 🧠🫶
I thought I'd listened to all the episodes and today, just thank you. I was obviously meant to hear this today. My son struggled with anxiety his whole short life. I tried to get him therapy but he was still struggling with trying to self medicate. He given up alcohol but was substituting what ever drug a friend had on hand. He was really trying to stay sober for his young son. But at 28 he died 4 years ago today of what was probably a cocktail of whatever drug he could lay his hands on to calm his mind after work. It helped him sleep and he just never woke up. This has been the hardest year yet for some reason. But this was a beautiful helpful episode. I listened on Spotify, now I'll watch it again on you tube. And then on to his books. My heart thanks you.
Hey Dr Bialik. Racism is really horrible. I admit I sometimes get nervous for things I shouldn't be nervous. I'm pretty sure Sheldon's mother would like your video. You're really awesome Dr Bialik! You're one of my favorite actresses ever! I'm eternally grateful with your performance as Amy Farrah Fowler! I could relate a lot to her on Big Bang Theory! I hope you someday get a star on the walk of fame! I also hope you someday invite Jim Parsons to your podcast!
Omg, this was an amazing interview. I love ❤️ you and Jonathan...Keep up the great work! Just fucking awesome 👌
❤ thats all i have to say. charlamayne is a true human being.
Dayum girl. You knew what I needed to hear this week. Thank you again.
I love CTG and have always found him quite insightful. This was a delight!
He's EXTREMELY insightful - we could have chatted with him all day! Thanks so much for watching!!
Love him! So deep & eloquent! Thank you Mayim & Jonathan!
We seriously could have talked to him all day! Thanks so much for watching, Karen!!
Oooohhh excited about this one!
Again, I'm now at the end of this interview, and it's so great!

I loooove Charlamagne tha God and hearing him speak in this context about his life and writing in depth is wonderful. Big love to Mayim & Jonathan’s podcast in hosting this awesome guest. Love & Respect. Please have him back on in the future when his next book comes out. This interview with Charlamagne and also Gabor Mate were my favorites 🫶🏼
Very impressed listening to him talk
I love your channel and I really appreciate you having him on! This was awesome
I never thought about that before, that a child is a different person,,looking at the world differently, at every first day of a school year.. When Charlemagne the God said he felt panicky the first day of first grade, but didn't remember feeling that in kindergarten. We can't expect our kids to be ok with school just because they may have already attended there before. Each year brings new worries as they get older. I could relate to not knowing kids as I didn't go to kindergarten so when my mom sent me on the bus to first grade I had no familiarity with the kids, the building or the experience. Those things leave their mark in our memories and on our cell memory that gets triggered in the future by similar experiences.
I learned about Charlemagne through my hip hop loving sons and I’ve always liked him… Im trying to encourage my 36 yr old son to go to therapy without trying to control him ( I too go to the rooms 😉 ) so I just sent him the link!
Thanks Mayim and Jonathan for being who you are. I have so much respect and admiration for you both.
The world needs more people like you. Keep sharing your truth and your thoughtful inspiring guests.
I consider this pod a part of my self care. ❤
That interview was fire, I was captivated!
I really enjoy all of your videos Mayim, and this one made me extremely excited. Charlemagne talks bravely with no shame regarding his therapy journey and his books are phenomenal. I so appreciate you both. These convos are needed and appreciated. Love from Detroit 💙🌈💙!
We feel incredibly honored to be able to speak to him in this way! Thanks so much for watching Jeff!!
You guys really share a different observation of him that some don't see because people are use to looking at others through past lenses... One thing society didn't accept to often is growth. Mayim, I appreciate the way you all view people on a deeper level🙌🏾
Such a great episode.
Thanks so much for watching, Paula!!
Great episode!
Such a great episode!
The very episode I needed today. 💙
Go, South Carolina! My granddaughter was born in Monck Corner! Thanks for sharing an example of positive growth!
We loved hearing how The South influenced Charlamagne's career and who he is today! Thanks so much for watching!! 🧠🫶
@@MayimBialik I should spell it right, I guess. Moncks Corner. But I’m a native New Yorker, so whoops!
Another hit mayim and Jonathan! ❤️
I really enjoyed this interview! Great job.
Glad you liked this one, J B, and thanks so much for watching!!
Here by way of The Breakfast Club. What GREAT dialogue. Now a new subscriber. Thank you!
So many cool things about this interview! I’d never heard of Charlemagne tha God before this episode, and now I can’t wait to listen to his show and read the books he’s written. I was also raised in the same faith he was, and while I consider my experiences traumatic and “culty”, it was refreshing to hear him be really so upbeat and positive about how he loves Christmas AND he appreciates how his parents raised him with a spiritual awareness. There’s high notes and low notes to being raised JW, like anything else in life really - what we learn and take with us from all those experiences is really up to us to make the most of. Clearly, Charlemagne has that life skill perfected. I really love his energy and uninhibited self expression, and I agree you both about how awesome he is. Jonathan called it out perfectly though - Charlemagne tha God is an energy magician…alchemist…wizard…? Maybe energy MARVEL is a good way to encapsulate what he brought to this interview. However anyone says it - the man has a contagious magnetism and I’m so glad I got to listen to this interview today.
Wow, what lovely feedback! Thanks so much for sharing your insights, Barb. Charlamagne is definitely an energy magician, and we're thrilled this episode is resonating with people in such a strong way. Thank you for watching!! 🧠🫶
The fact that he loves Judy Blume confirms my love for him moving forward. 💖 OMG

I can really relate to 21:00 my therapist had to constantly remind me that one bad day ( or even several) does not wipe out the progress I've made!
Absolutely! An important reminder for us all. 🧠🫶
Great episode, great interview 👍🏼 charlamagne really made me wanna get his books
We can't recommend his books enough! Thanks so much for watching, Claudia!!
Thanks for the great healing content on this podcast! I’m really enjoying this episode & had to pause halfway through to say thank you… A few weeks ago I was going through a hard time & listened to a few of your episodes, and felt so much less alone in my struggle. The Michael Singer episode was really good too… Thanks Mayim & Jonathan, keep it up… you’re helping a lot of people, including me!❤️❤️
Wow, thanks so much for sharing, Amy. Sending strength your way in these struggling times - brighter days are around the corner, and you are not alone. Thanks so much for watching!!

This was so dope. Reminds me of the Raven and her wife interview.
I cried first day of first grade also.
Your content just keeps getting better and better. He was really engaging and a very interesting listen.
Thank you so much for watching, and for the kind note, Jackie!!
This is so real!! I'm not hip hop. I'm a white lady of 60 who divorced a man who completely distorted my life and kids we had together.
His story of therapy is real to all of us.
It means a lot.
Especially of my generation and parents, you can't talk about those things.
Wow and wow!
Thank you all!!
amazing interview! 👏🙌
I love the theme song! Lol
Thank you for this interesting interview. I appreciate that you read his books, and didn’t spend time on superficial nonsense.
Another amazing episode! I was skeptical going into this because I'm not a confrontational person, so I've never enjoyed Charlamagne's approach. This helped me understand his intentions and why he takes the approach he does though. As always, great insight with what it feels like going home and why it's so uncomfortable after you have been gone for a while.
So glad you enjoyed this one, Matt! We loved getting to see this side of him, too. Thanks very much for watching!!
Fantastic Interview ❤. I love Charlemagne Tha God !!! Wow! What a Special and Blessed person. And Funny 😄. Thank You for this episode

Awesome interview. CTG life journey is an example of "All things work together for the good of those who love the Lord and are called according to his purpose. ~Romans 8:28~
Lol they got Charlemagne on here that’s 🔥
A true honor to have him!!
Cancel culture is rooted in religions. 😂 I was "cancled" for getting divorced, no one cares that it wasn't a healthy relationship. Or a positive environment to raise a family. Then your church family turns their back on you. God never would -
"Oh I LOVE HIM SO MUCH... I LOVE you! YEAH, it COULD be a foot! (Sorry, I just got excited.)"
-Mayim Bialik, 2022
🤣🤣🤣
This was such a good interview. I agree with them that Charlemagne has the super power of being able to speak the truth, hold space through other's strong reactions, and de-escalate tense situations by making people laugh yet still stay serious about the discussion.
53:00 THAT PART. I need to make a short clip of that and send it to people whenever I don't want to go somewhere.
All the different versions of ourselves from inner child to higher self are in different dimensions because there’s no such thing as time.

I love the honesty about his belief in intelligent design, a concept many scientists, if they are honest, come to agree with.
I think he then offers a good example of a mistake all of us make at some point of projecting a self-centric, man-shaped box onto God and attempting the explain His edges into it. An understandable error, a byproduct of the reality of our very limited understanding, especially as compared to His/Her infinite knowledge.
I could be wrong, but I would guess that by definition God has no gender, or is all genders, or both, whatever. I heard and believe God is love. Enough said.
Well, except, thank God for that. Love is the sunshine that illuminates, warms and melts every dark, cold, temote hard thing. It's so so good.
But it's a cool idea. I like to help knock down the old white man in the sky image in my mind by reminding myself that God is an older Asian woman. He is al the people He created in His own image, and THEN some, right.

Charlamagne tha God ain’t just fine… he’s FOIN!
What is Mayim holding in her right hand?
Speaking of growing up in the 90s…take a trip down that road sometime! Every. Single. Show!…day, night, Saturday AM…sexual innuendos! Age appropriate. Age INappropriate. Dumbing down of women (of the Nickelodeon dads sort). The difference?… it’s not fluffed up with stupid a** PC terminology created to make others comfortable. It’s straight damn forward. Gross.
I just have to say that a common thread in serial killers is also a neglectful, absent, or abusive mother. Again…the importance of the loving connections w mom as discussed today.
Love you guys.
Would you ever consider to have misha collins on the show 🤔
What is the stone that you're holding in your hand Mayim?
Is that Hematite?
I’m from S DC…had one cousin, may his name be for a blessing, nicknamed Pickle (sour puss expression) & another called Onion…I’m texting 2nd cuz to find out why!
Riveting 😲 - please report back, Sherri!!
As a white Boomer-generation, Jewish back ground, New York raised lesbian, I am so in favor of as much media, as possible ( whether, books, video, etc) that not only speaks to Black folks, speaking within their community to each other, but that brings (as much as one can) the full spectrum of experience/history to white folks. We must as a society come to grips with our past, in order to heal, bring equity, and synthesize a path forward for the USA. And it angers, frightens, and disgusts me, when I see/hear of so many white parents/ school boards/ communities denying our country’s past, under the guise of “well, we don’t want to make our kids feel terrible, and teaching CRT, (aka real USA history). So, it’s really wonderful that these books are out there, perhaps it can expand into an interactive series in and of itself.
Myiam, I love these conversations but the ads!! I am jumping out at 30 minutes in because of the overwhelming amount of UA-cam ads and sponsorships. I get that this is a business and you need to make an income but it is too much for viewer. Would you consider reducing them?
What if who you think is the hero, everyone around thinks is the kook?
The enemy wants you to think and stay thinking it's a do or die or too late...

Thank you for nothing I can afford
Religion is authoritarian, and authoritarians are controlling. Between men and women, men set the emotional tone/vibe socially, and women reciprocate what men present to them. The tone is mostly authoritarian. What is one thing authoritarian men want control over the most? Women.
What is the exact opposite of a controlling attitude? Humility, honesty, respect, and non-violence. Having a controlling attitude is the ABSENCE of developing character towards women socially for purposes of mating and sex. So what is the purpose of religion? To appear Godly and spiritual socially WITHOUT developing character within.
With authoritarianism, ALL MEN BLAME WOMEN for dishonesty socially. Kind of mean, f*cked up, and manipulative, don’t you think? Considering men are physically bigger in frame, physically aggressive (violent), angry (authoritarian) all the time, and overall control the tone/vibe of how men and women interact socially.
Why is almost all violence and machismo in some way or another affiliated religion? It’s not hard to see the truth: to get rid of religion socially worldwide is to also get rid of amorality, indifference, conformity, authoritarianism, and violence towards women.
All war, ultimately, has to do with control over women by authoritarian (lying) men.
God is love, and love is a collective consciousness filled with humility and honesty, and an absence of a violent, central authority.
Only “alpha” males focus on religion. They are the most manipulative, materialistic, and conniving of men, as well as the most violent. Not all alphas are religious, but almost all religious men are alpha (authoritarian).
Evolved men are too honest for religion or atheism. They focus on telepathy. The only way to focus on telepathy is to be honest and humble socially.
Men focusing on the spiritual focus on spirituality NOW, which is telepathy. They do not wait to form spiritual personalities until after death (religion), and then play head games in the material with money, weight training, martial arts, and anger.
No one cares about religion at all. People only care that life after death is real and that telepathy is real.
Religion is a head game. It is shallow. It is corny.
