Monte Carlo Gift set no. 38. Full renovation. Citroen DS 19, BMC Cooper S, Rover 2000.

Corgi released the Monte Carlo set in 1965. It included three cars, also sold separately. These included models such as: BMC Cooper S, Citroen DS 19 and Rover 2000. I have already presented the latter model in a separate video, so in this episode I will focus on the other two models. My Cooper was infected with the zinc plague, so the body of this model could not be saved. I used the second body, which I was lucky to buy at one of the flea markets. My Mini Cooper model also includes a trunk with spare wheels and front bumper covers. The Citroen was a model that was sold by Corgi as a civilian model because it did not include additional halogen lights on the front bumper and did not have an antenna on the roof. I made my own halogen version and equipped this model with an antenna. I also made a box typical of this set with a beautiful display inside, containing three models. Excellent restoration as always, and I´m glad you decided against trying to save the body of the Mini, it would just have given you a restored model that would crumble before your eyes in the near future. You can save most wrecks, but if the metal itself is failing, there´s no way to save it.
I agree that this is a very nice Gift Set from Corgi. By offering 3 models in one set, they made it possible for the children to really play rally with the cars, whereas a solitary rally car would create far less immersion. It was also quite simple for Corgi to do, since all 3 basic castings already existed for civilian models, and just needed minor modifications to become rally cars.

Unfortunately, it happens sporadically but there is no solution. Zinc is attacked by the so-called zinc plague and thus begins to decompose. It is probably also influenced by external factors such as humidity and storage. Best regards.

That's a problem that stems from too much zinc in the original alloy. When there's a lot of moisture in the air, the zinc reacts to it and starts to change, molecularly. If left in that environment, the metal eventually turns to sand and will just crumble. Some people call it zinc pest.

This was quite an ordeal. I have never seen such a crappy casting! The Plague!!! The Mini you replaced it with turned out really nicely. The thermo-molding pedestal was used again to elevate the molds for windshields. Is the drape down more efficient for molding? I have a good friend who had the proto-type mule for the Aston Martin DB3. It actually raced at Monte Carlo. Stephen

I have the same problem with Molotow. I don't know what Paul does but I let it cure for a few days and then spray it with clearcoat. You can also apply Pledge over it, gently. But I cringe every time Paul touches it with his fingers.

W kwestii korozji metalu. Przyczyna nie tkwi w środowisku w jakim są eksponowane modele. Problem tkwi w wadliwej strukturze metalu. Na przestrzeni wielu lat kiedy zbieram modele, przy ponad 1500 modelach tylko dwa razy trafiłem na ten problem. Rozpadły się karoserie Jaguara E Type od Tekno oraz Fiata od RIO. Nie było ratunku. Początkowo sądziłem że wpływ ma soda którą stosuję do likwidacji lakieru przy renowacji, RIO tak odnawiałem. Wiele innych remontowanych tą metodą ma się swietnie.
