I'm just now watching this (August 2021) . I woke up to you still on my big screen TV. Couldn't sleep last night and finally fell asleep watching #4 of tee shirt 👕 tutorial. I think that's called "binge watching"! Thank you for keeping me company. I'm not stopping until I watch all of your tutorials. ❤💕
Thankyou, i love your tutorials, they are never dull or boring but very clear, creative, entertaining and enlightening. I am not a quilter more of a general craft sewer. I started one more than 20 years ago but the teacher chose the fabric with a rather dull and bland colour and pattern, she said it would do as it was our first time but I never liked it and never finished putting it together. After I retired I took it to a UFO class and this teacher was amazing, she saw a tiny speck of bright colour in the overall pattern and matched it with another fabric which brought my dull old quilt to life and i finished it. I am now very proud of my first quilt that took over 20 years to make and watching you inspires me to try again.....but I would have to be a bit faster this time 😂😂😂 so thankyou from Australia 🇦🇺
Lisa, you say it's so hot where you are!!!!!! Well, I'm watching on the Replay, and it's 9 degrees here in the midwest this evening!!!! I don't want to go outside either!!!!!!!!!
What an opportune time for this video to come along. I was stuck on how to make a sunflower for my daughter’s graduation quilt. You offer a wonderful solution and your sew along is wonderful. Thank you
All week I’ve been googling how to make my own template with cardboard and the measurement, this a a perfect video for me, I am so happy for your toturiol, thank you very much for this lovely video. Chandra from Canada.
I just started watching your channel today and I’ll be continually watching....Much Love & Prayers for your Mother, and safe travels see you again soon.

Thank you for this tutorial. You make this look so easy. I always just passed over them in pattern books because I thought they would be too difficult for me to do. Now I think I can!!!
I really enjoyed watching this, I learned a lot. I'm going to start glue basting, my fingers will thank me I am sure. When you sewed the Dresden down you sewed around the center circle and around the tops of the blades, you did not stitch down the sides of the blades though. Is that something that you did off camera or don't you do it? Is that a step that is covered when the quilt is quilted?
July 30, 2023. I inherited 20 Dresden Plate blocks. They are from the 1930’s and I want to use them in gift quilts to share with family. No centers, they were pieced by my grandmother with a treadle sewing machine.
What a treasure! Fun fact: Usually the centers get appliquéd onto the plates after the plates are appliquéd to the background, so I'm not surprised since the centers are the last step in completing the blocks before joining into rows and quilting. It's a design choice to see how the plates look all together and the choosing a fabric for the center. (The background and the centers are the things that unite everything into a cohesive and beautiful quilt. Sending lots of love 💖 from sunny 🌞 Arizona 🌵. Take care of yourself and each other 😷.
Made the dresden trukey love making dresden so easy and I also made a flower using the dresden thank you for the video I have the dresden ruler I do use it alot
Lisa 400 Dresden pieces divided by charm packs with 42 pieces and 2 pieces per charm would be 4.4761 charm packs for the Dresden's alone plus what ever charm pieces you would need for the 9 blocks. I have watched this before so I know you have said you could use a piece that you didn't really like or a solid for the middle square.. The only question I can think of is how many blocks are in this all together? I am not sure I caught that amount. Or were the 400 pieces the charm packs themselves of which 2 Dresden's were cut from each charm and then the rest used as the 9 patches? I that is the case it wouldn't take 9.523 charm packs containing 42 pieces.
Hello folks, if you don't want to buy a Dresden template you can go to the dollar store and buy the plastic chopping sheet and cut 2 template and glue together so it is nice and thick.
For the circle: Hoop no show mesh with the sticky side up. Lay a square of fabric on the mesh, right side down. Embroider the size circle you want (matching the fabric/mesh) Take out of hoop when done. Now trim a cut in the mesh and turn the thing inside out, so the right side of fabric is showing, and the sticky side of the mesh is on the bottom. Squeeze the edges so they make a nicely finished circle. Now iron it in place and stitch around it as normal.
WHEN YOU HAVE TIME. WHEN I WAS SEARCHING I FOUND SOME FABRIC WITH LARGER PRINTS, WHAT CAN I DO SO AS NOT TO CUT THEM UP? I also have Christmas fabric. Which would be good for that? I did the Dresden Quilt Block with you, my very first one!
You're very first one!!! That is so exciting, way to go ♡ I think using Christmas fabrics would be lovely. Sometimes I use a bigger print fabric in the border of a quilt so you can see the pretty design really well
Hi, Lisa Capen How are you doing hope all is well, I have a question : When making the circle to the Dresden plates can I insert a batting in between the two fabrics facing pretty side to pretty side than turning inside out by making a slit in the back of the circle?
I am so sorry Lisa , I didn’t stayed for the whole thing because I got a phone call from my aunt in Brazil . I will catch up Have a safe trip and keep us informed about your sweet Mother🙏😘
I can't find your template for your Dresden I'm a beginner but experience with sewing other things just not quilting thanks for your video it's so helpful x

I have finished the top and it's waiting in line to be quilted hahaha. I think I will stitch around the dresden plate.......and around the center circle....and then some sort of filler quilting pattern for the background.....not quite sure yet :)
Also if you want to do the circle in the center by machine instead of hand sewing just sew a circle of interfacing to the circle, cut an x in the interfacint and turn inside out
I think I'm missing something. There is not intro or anything. This starts mid-sentence with you sitting at the machine and sewing; telling us you have your whole stack beside you.

Beautiful job Lisa, thank you for the tutorial.

I want to make a Dresden quilt but on a larger level. Is there a chart that shows the size to cut the blades to make a bigger Dresden? TIA

I did it! Thank you.
If you leave the first set of 5 together and only cut between sets you won’t get mixed up with the order of the sets.

Hi from Uk

Lisa, I left you a message on your last video (cutting interfacing for t-shirt) about where you can get Pellon P44F. I hopw you saw it.
I saw it today on Joanne’s website
Bery nice
I'll watch again. Just came on. not sure if this is live
Make two cardboard blades and glue them together. Will be thicker and less likely to cut ur template. It is well worth buying the ruler.
Is the blades of the dresden out of a 5in square.
Yes
So you can use jelly rolls for arms? I’m a new quilter ☺️
Where can I get your patterns for your designs my name is kat

I think that would work Ada :)
Iron it in place on top of the dresden plate. I stitch it down with an applique stitch.

Trip? I missed that part. ENJOY. Be safe. Have FUN.
What model is your Juki please and thank you?
Hi Jane, I have the Juki HZL F600.
I've been looking at Juki's for sometime now. I just can't decide which one. I want a Single Stitch, that much I know. No computer.
The reason some points get longer is that the width of the seam you took at the point was narrower than the others.

Hey Ada! Thanks so much :) I used my embroidery machine to make the shirt I'm wearing in this video. Maybe a great topic for a future video!
How do you know how many blades in a Dresden if you don't have a pattern?
Yikes......that's a lot of math for me hahahhaa......I would Google it :) There are free charts and a ton of them :)
What is that fabric patch at the start of each line?
I may try this one
I use leaders and enders. It helps the needle not suck fabric down into the machine and also to save thread.
When you start to type hit enter key again to get other symbols ( i think )
IM WATCHING ON MY PHONE
ITS WONDERFUL OF YOU TO GIVE FREE patterns, BUT ONLY HALF THE PATTERN SHOWS AND PRINTS

I HAVE MADE A POKIE FROM CARD BOARD N IT WORKS FINE BECAUSE I GET TO IRON MY TIP
I thought you were supposed to stitch all the way down each blade
