my immediate thought. we got rid of williams and jenkins, 2 players who were basically our glue on D last year and then get darby and sign campbell a lottery deal. made no sense.
This philosophy is nice on paper, but if it were possible, every team would do it. The Jaguars have tried this strategy for the past decade and repeatedly failed, both in free agent signings and draft picks. Yes, we've had some nice picks and signings, but by and large its been repeated misses on both ends. I think when you go BPA, you have a tendency to pick guys with immense athletic ability, but minimal positional value. Ashton Jeanty might be the BPA, but would he help this franchise win? He would hardly move the needle.
At the end of the day both drafting and even free agency to an extent is just guess work. You just have to find an organizational philosophy and stick to it. I feel like we try to mix multiple philosophies at once and it fails. Our coaching scheme is more finesse, meanwhile our GM looks for mainly physical traits instead of scheme fit. We need everyone on the same page for this next regime because we have no identity.
Mason Graham us pls. Yes I would like Travis Hunter. But I just like Graham's energy on the Interior DLine. I feel the Defense would flip to atleast a above mediocre defense.DT in free agency has not been working for us.
I agree with you. we’re always so draft focused on who the next elite hot shot could be and we forget that we barely have any veterans besides less than a handful. i think we need to build comradery around vets and take advantage of the FA, which we basically never do. We need leaders who can fire up these young guys and encourage them.
We need to fill holes on the line, cb, 😮receiver in free agency and draft Ashton jeanty or Mason graham. Sign tee Higgins and look for a safety that can play around Cisco. Preferably hufango.
I think we need to address guard in the draft as well as the other positions. This is because although there are very good guards in the draft, I like the thought of Tyler Booker playing center behind Mitch Morse for a year and then next year you have your starter. The other thing is if we trade back and pick up and extra 2nd rounder we can pick up Deone Walker.
In my personal opinion, the best way to attack an off-season is to double down and address your needs in the draft after addressing them in FA. You should never be complacent with your roster as a GM. Especially at positions that were the reason for losing the year prior. I feel like this is one of the many reasons Gene Smith didn’t work out. If I remember correctly that’s why he drafted Anger. He believed he filled every other hole on the roster and would rather take a starter than a backup. It’s always a good idea to have a backup plan at those positions compared to picking the BPA in most rounds. However, you can’t reach either. You need to address those positions where there’s good value…Focus on your needs in FA and in the Draft. If the value is bad while drafting trade out. If you can’t get a trade partner then you take the best player available.
Free agency is meant to fill small holes, not rebuild.. good teams are built from good drafts, not just 1st round.. we repeatedly miss in the draft so the team tries to sign the team together.. repeated problems.. if we had staff who could have good drafts, we would be a good team with DEPTH
I would not move on from Evan Engram..because I don't think Strange is ready to be TE#1 yet...He has definitely shown he can be a good player for us this season...BUT...I still think he makes DUMB penalties...and is just not ready...I think he can be a 1B...not even a 1A...but a solid 1B TE...but he has grown on me after a WTF was THAT Rookie Year out of him.
Well said bud. Engram needs to stay, Strange is a good TE too. Solid combo. Deguara may be sliding into the 3 spot in my mind. He's such a gunner in ST. Dude brings some hype fr.
LB's : Chad Mumma just a guy...and maybe just a Special Teams guy...Devin Lloyd a disappointing 1st Rounder...but still an NFL player...we should keep him for now but let walk if he does not step up I would not be interested in paying him big $$..Liking Ventrell...and have ALWAYS liked Foye...but Foye seems to be slowing down a bit vs his 1st year here...Foye was a Sideline to Sideline MACHINE in 2022
I'm on board with much of what you said, but we really do need a change at GM/Coach or there's nothing we're offering but money to free agents, which means we will pay a premium to out bid other teams. Beyond what our draft or free agency can do for us, a new regime reenergizing the locker room may be able to do the most. We have a regime change we will get more out of what we have, be more desirable club, and will get more out of our drafted players... It has to happen or we're wasting our breath on these conversations, which is heartbreaking because it might not happen.
Nothing on that list is gonna happen. Baalke is staying, which means we probably end up with Matt Eberflus as our next head coach. That means we certainly won’t attract any premier free agents and Baalke will probably screw up another draft as well.
hoooo hooo hoooo i like that Ashton Janty and big uglies take at the end there. Janty, Tyler Booker in the 2nd and Harold Fannin' jr te Boston College in the 3rd. Or trade up into the end of the 1st for TE Tyler Warren Penn State, then Booker in the 2nd.
What good free agents are gonna want to come to a franchise that is a perennial loser, where you can’t trust the front office to make sound decisions? If you want to make it to a championship, this is a place you avoid like the plague. We are the joke of the NFL. Trevor is not what we thought he was, so we should be adjusting and we haven’t. If you have an average QB, you build the O-Line and try to build a dynamic running game to take away some of the burden of the passing game. That means finding OT’s that remind us of Tony Boselli and Leon Searcy. Instead, we have an average OT in Harrison and it seems like every time Little starts, Trevor gets injured. Little is a jinx. He’s the one who started our spiral when he stepped on Trevor’s foot last year. We need road graders to open running lanes in the interior and we have nothing but finesse players who are terrible run blocking. The entire O-Line needs to be re-done to help Lawrence out and build the run game, but we need to attract premier players and that’s not gonna happen on this team anytime soon, given our history. If the front office doesn’t change (and I’m assuming it won’t,) nothing else is gonna change either.
I am starting to worry about Anton...I think he will be OK...but not the potentially VERY good player that we were hoping for...if we are keeping it real - he has not had a banner 2nd year season...
Different front office might very well be what encourages free agents to come here. Also, money. I disagree with some things here, but I do agree on the o-line needing help and front office change. If we get a new GM/Coach, we have a lot of opportunity to do a lot in one off-season including reenergizing a dead locker room... Which honestly we need as much as anything.
If it Baalke literally ask him what he wants to do and do the exact opposite Maybe that’s what we do here in duval He thought he built the linebacker core as a juggernaut not so much
As long as the Jags have an overpaid male model at QB, nobody will take the franchise seriously. The players can't respect the franchise who pays an average QB a shitload of money. Too much jealousy with young men with big egos.
The minute we released Williams and signed darby I knew we were cooked
@@codyporter7894 very dumb decision..

Also a Fowler or yannik would be great as a backup pass rusher.

11 days from finding out if there is any hope for the near-term future. If they don't clean house things are looking bleak.

Foye (and Tyson) may still be feeling effects of their injuries. Seems everyone needs 6 months off.

Yes Mason Graham or Will Johnson with 1st pick

Isn't it best to draft and develope especially now that we hv paid our Qb ?
The Jaguars have money to spend and holes to fill, if they simply avoid free agency this year they will struggle in 2025.
I agree with the 5 spots...and Financially I know it would kill us..but Armstead and Gabe Davis?/ CUT!!! GTFO
Let Kirk go, keep Engram, grab Trey Smith in FA. N hope Travis Hunter is still available.

We have an unused cap in 2024 of $16 million. Shouldn't this be added to the $46 million of 2025?
Not sure exactly how much will roll over or if that’s factored in yet. Either way, plenty of money to spend

Jags need to draft a running QB late an mold the next Lamar Jackson

Its definitely needed ....no run game we become 1 dimensional. Cornerbacks. And a QB Safties Wrs.
We already have our franchise QB. Changing now would cost more than 100 million and we might recover in 10-12 years.
