  • A montage of some of the steps involved in building this brilliant kit.
It's the third MFH Lancia rally car I've tackled over the last 3 years - and unless MFH release another (Stratos??) that's me done with these super iconic and successful rally machines.

Lovely build. Waiting on the 917 in 1/12 and are just about to order a magnetic tumbler, but then I see that you use vinegar. Could you describe the process? No point in getting the tumbler if vinegar does the job. Thanks and cheers.

Fantastic build I’m thinking of investing in this kit as it is one of my favourite cars can you tell me what is your preferred glue for painted parts

Hi Roosterfox and thanks for the comment. I use Zap-a-gap medium CA (don’t use ‘thin’ - it’s a nightmare!) almost exclusively for all my building. For painted parts, wherever I can, I scrape away some of the paint - but otherwise it still works ok depending on the paint. Hope this helps. It’s a really great quality kit. From a building point of view, one of the best MFH kits I’ve done.. cheers.

Hi John, been subbed for a while but don't think I commented? Is the zero 2k etch primer worth having? I have found the Mr Hobby, Upol and others to be quite ineffective, though people tell me it's better if you thin it with rapid thinner?? I just got a Lancia 037 and Gr 5 Montecarlo for my first MFH builds.

Hi. Apologies for delay. In a nutshell - yes, it is worth having. I have used it on all my MFH builds. It adheres very well to resin and clean metal. I’ve tried other stuff but doesn’t do the job. The only ‘issue’ I’ve had is that, once mixed it needs to be diluted quite a bit with Zero thinners and then applied in light coats. It’s supposedly airbrush ready but it’s far too thick. And the other frustrating thing is it’s dense grey! So this means, for most top coat colours the grey has to be over painted with white base coat of some sort. I’ve found that unless I need a really specific Zero colour, the new Tamiya lacquer paints work really well on top of the Zero primer. Hope this helps. Cheers. John.

Honestly will this be a hard kit for a beginner. Can’t find any other 1/2 delta beside this one with the design debating on it

Hi Jordon. Well, if you are an inexperienced model maker, and I hate to put anyone off, these are really challenging kits for all sorts of reasons. Anything is possible, but I would say that this might be a step too far. Unlike for example Tamiya kits which have foolproof step by step instructions - these don’t. There are steps to follow and lots of diagrams - but the onus is on the modeller to work it all out. The actual parts are not numbered. You may already have theses tools ,but if not - a range of drill bits from 0.5mm - 2mm; a range of sanding files for metal; a good selection of abrasives and polishing stuff; and lots more! I’m an experienced modeller and this kit took me 6 months of evenings - compared to a 1/12 scale Tamiya which I’ve done in 2 weeks. ……..but the decision is yours. If you go for it, be prepared for lots of head scratching and problem solving and spending many hours on relatively small assemblies. At least there are several step by step builds of this model on UA-cam. Have fun!
