I love how you noted how people feel that they are consumers, just waiting for the next big thing. It really highlights the difference between the consumer audience and the creator audience. A true creator stops consuming the gear and looking for more features, and instead looks for how they can achieve the fundamentals in the gear that they have.
I only came across this video because I was searching for POV stuff with the SD1000 as I recently ordered one, but instead I got more than I bargained for. I loved your rant. I loved that there wasn't any chopping up done in post, it just flowed so well and, as a result, the message was more powerful. Your points about not having to own the latest and greatest caused me to look at my gear and think 'how much of this do I really need?'. It's a message that's been put across thousands of times, that gear isn't important, but sometimes it takes someone to make the point in a way that resonates with you. Thank you sir!
Loved this vid. Thanks. Back in the day, there used to be articles telling people (in a fun fyi way) to put a piece of frosted/3M tape over the flash, just to diffuse it. I had/have the cam you used in the vid and I'll say it helped so much. Also, the cam has that feature where you pic your layout, hold the button halfway, for it to calibrate, then click the rest of the way for the shot. Well, what I do is pick the layout, press halfway, then re-adjust the layout, maybe point it up or down a bit, sometime allowing for less crushing of the sky, because I can always 'open' up the darks later... or even just retake the same shot with the bottom open a bit (and the sky crushed) and then stitch the parts I want later in photoshop. So I could have a nice village block, AND a beautiful blue sky to go with it, and all the leaves in the trees in between. That halfway button feature is why I'll never give up my wee li'l Elph. But yeah, the tape helps. It's still on.
Great insights into this camera! It's a FUN camera to have! I really makes taking photos simple and easy! In a weird way, I like it even more than my iPhone 13 Pro Max.🤔 Thanks for the positive feedback and thanks for taking the time to watch and support the channel!👍🏾😀
Great point about gear acquisition. I feel I've been a culprit and victim of that as it's made me feel very discouraged about making content. Lately I've just been enjoying older tech and constantly reminding myself to taking my time with and enjoying the fundamentals.
Yes sir! It happens to ALL of us! We are surrounded by new gear and gear announcements ALL the time, so it's common to feel like we NEED to latest thing! Thanks for taking the time to leave positive feedback and thanks for watching and supporting the channel!👍🏾
Solid, great video, spot on about other creators. Same is incredibly boring. That said, you've had a unique voice and style since I found your channel. Keep doing you!
I like some of the creators, I just think the topics and content is getting stale. Thanks for the encouragement and the uplifting words, it means a lot! 🙏🏽 Thanks for continuing to support the channel as well! 😊
Thanks for sharing. Interesting story happened to me: last year I purchased expensive full frame camera and even more expensive lens for my travel. At the same time I found in my closet my old Canon PowerShot Elph 300, so I took it with me too. Result: I loved emotions and results from my old Canon more than my new professional Sony. Old camera has more soul in it, and that’s exactly what I value the most about it. 🤩
Thanks for sharing! I have to agree with you! There's just something about having a very SIMPLE camera that makes you focus (no pun intended) on actually taking a meaningful photo vs trying to get a fancy photo! Thanks for sharing and thanks for watching and supporting the channel!👍🏾
This video was a fantastic watch, seriously your awareness and given attention to this camera really has this raw nonfabricated look, jus ordered on Ebay cause of you
Thanks for the posit feedback! 😊 It’s just a simple little camera that I shoot with all the time now! It makes things very quick, simple and easy! Thanks for taking the time to leave positive feedback and thanks for taking the time to watch and support the channel! 🙏🏽 😊
You're dead-on right about the consumerism, GAS or whatever you wish to call it. But it's much easier to window shop than to create art, so many more people are doing that, and UA-cam channels that cater to that are going to have the most growth. It's the Info Age equivalent of fast food. One can criticize the giant burger joint chains for not offering nutritious fare, not being kind to animals or good for the planet or not paying their workers a decent wage etc... But at the end of the day they continue to flourish because the formula sells. Human nature does not change. Cool video.
👏🏽 👏🏽 Very well said! So here we are. Do we “play the game” or find creative ways to be engaging while teaching and uplifting people! The second part is MUCH more difficult to do! (At least for me)! I gladly accept the challenge though! 😊 💪🏾 💪🏾 Thanks for your feedback and thanks for taking time to watch and support the channel! 🙏🏽 😊
Every camaras yt channel takes these old digicams, sets them up to shoot raw or mod them to shoot raw... why? Isn't the strength of a good photo is that it's good out of camera? It's a digicam. You are supposed to point and shoot. The strength is in how the old ccd sensor poorly takes a picture. It's the whole charm. That said - nice pics and recording. And I absolutely agree with what you say here
I can't speak for all UA-cam channel however, I can speak for myself. One reason is Flexibility - I love the SOOC look however, having the ABILITY to get more out of this old sensor is just something I enjoy doing. There are entire communities that do things like this. For people who shoot Cannon, there's a group that has created something called "Magic Lantern" which is software you load onto your camera that gives it ALL KINDS of capabilities that it didn't come with from the factory. Back in the old Android days there were all kinds of ROMs, Emulators, skins, lock screens and a whole world FILLED with modding phones. The same is true with building Hackintosh computers, and even car engines that use Haltech ecus VS the stock ecu. There are other reasons however, I think I have typed enough! Thanks for watching! 👍
Oh dang!! Loved the rant about how every Camera UA-camr became just the same. It's all about gear and not creative creation nowadays. Anyways got the Canon Ixus 55 (Powershot SD 450, naming was different here in Europe😅) recently and I love it. Sometimes it's just nice to point and shoot, instead of thinking too much about Manual Settings. Btw, did you use the hacking Firmware CHDK? Because in Lightroom it said the file was DNG o.O
Yes exactly! It’s a great little camera to have to to pull out and shoot quickly and close right back in my pocket! I did use CHDK on the sd card to tap into raw shooting, zebras 🦓 and much more! This little extra part made it fun! 😊 Thanks for taking the time to watch and support the channel! 🙏🏽 😊
Looks like the camera had another name here in europe. I had this camera as as Canon Ixus 70, and i loved it. Small, easy to use and a good photo quality. I miss it.
I remember someone else saying that it did have a different name but it was the same camera! They are fun little cameras to have! You can find them online actually! The prices are starting to go up because it's getting popular. Thanks for the kind words and thanks for watching and supporting the channel!👍🏾
Great to see you back making a video :) Was just wondering the other day if I had missed any uploads or if UA-cam in one of their "cleanups" had unsubscribed from your channel since I couldn't remember seeing any video's for a while, so I had to go searching through my channel list and discovered "nope", it was just a while since you had uploaded anything, but now you're (hopefully) back again :) The video sequence shot on the SD 1000 in the car really has a good looking "vintage" vibe, making it stand out, and love the angle doing a review of the Canon SD 1000, showing of it's capabilites and proving that "content rules all" :D Now back to shooting with my Nikon D7100, GoPro Hero 3+ and my iPhone X :)
The me for encouraging words and thanks for supporting the channel! I may use this camera from time to time here in this channel when I want to focus on certain subjects. 😊 Thanks again for taking the time to watch and support the channel! 🙏🏽 😊
Kind of a technical match too. UA-cam is pretty draconian with thumbnail size restrictions. Something out of an older point and shoot fits in the envelope. That neat look from an older sensor is also eye candy. With respect to breaks, I can affirm this. Standing outside the sphere of actively creating content and looking into the abbatoir as a bystander you get a sense of how the sausage is made. Look forward to the new season of content.
Two more notes: Pawn shops have bins of these old point and shoots for cheap. One Month Two Cameras covers the sphere and has a great channel. Worth a look.
I love your “breakdown” of standing outside the creator sphere and seeing what’s really there! I am beginning to think that it’s necessary to take a break in order to keep a “fresh” perspective and maintain a sense of urgency to provide valuable content. It seems that the key 🔑 is finding a balance between value, entertainment and interest! This is what I am working on as I grow my channel. Thanks for taking the time to watch and thanks for supporting the channel! 🙏🏽 😊
I remember hearing that before! It’s interesting how they come up with different naming schemes based on location. 🤔 Thanks for your comment, it’s always interesting and exciting to hear from people who live in different parts of the world! 🌎 Thanks for taking the time to watch and support the channel! 🙏🏽 😊
I would always recommend the Ixus 80 IS and Ixus 800 IS over this one because of stabilization. But I get it, the Ixus 70 is a total icon and an eye catcher.
Honestly didn't know those existed... I think most people are just going after the "Vintage" look more than looking for specs on a camera of this age. Thanks for the heads up though and thanks for watching!👍🏾

Awesome video, thanks for making it. I think I have that exact camera, I actually like the photos it takes. I find a lot of newer photography is very over exposed, I like having some contrast and nice saturated coliurs Rampant consumerism is definitely a problem right now. People buy the latest and greatest to “feel better,” but it’s really just chasing a dopamine rush. It’s not the latest phone that’ll make you happy. It’s backyard bbq’s with loved ones, cuddling on the sofa with a coffee and book while you watch the first snowfall of the year, hanging with friends, going to the park with your kid, or a twilight walk with your dog on a nice scenic path. Stuff will never compare to any of that. It can take time to appreciate those pleasures, you don’t get a quick jolt from them. It takes a lot more time and effort to build those relationships and to nurture an appreciation for simple life pleasures. But the pleasure you get lasts so much longer and has such a deeper effect on your mental health. It’s soooo worth it
Agree with you. Have a tiny collection of older Digicams and use them. If you knew the camara very well you can get good resultes :-). With greetings from lower Bavaria.
Honesty, I am using the card that came with it. It's just a simple 32MB sd card. The actual model number on the card I have is (Canon SDC-32M) but you can use any card. I hope this helps! Thanks for watching!👍🏾
