Nah... even better, just get rid of it all and thus a big save on energy use as well as elbow grease (if ever) on cleaning.
Then look at your smart meter and Bam... massive saving over all and when you get hungry just "order in" as Takeaway costs don't count towards energy costs.
Next, as you no longer need a kitchen, turn it into an extra bedroom... rent it out and boost your income even further.
Surprised Gary's not already thought of this one 😅. And BTW, he's brave showing off them filthy appliances. Just hope the local council hygiene officer does not watch this video and award him a One Star rating 🤢
      🤣🤣🤣

A slow cooker is a great option with solar. Ours uses about 120w on low setting and 170w on high. Mostly on during the day so nearly always free electricity.

Tiny fridges are often horrendously inefficient. The cabinet volume to insulation ratio is poor and they use TECs. No mention of the duty cycle of that wee thing but that it is pulling 50W says heaps. My 280l fridge/freezer usually hovers around 40W, when the compressor is even running and I'm coming up to summer (kitchen was 32c yesterday).

Don’t be mean Gary lol, I too went on the hunt but there is only so much you can turn off before it starts to affect functionality ie don’t use all of me speakers but if I go upstairs and need something turning on I don’t want to have to plug it in first lol, I’m using about 500watts with house at rest as need my computer running 24/7.
Love the journey Gary I got an airfryer for that very reason too, I’m looking at getting another AC array so I can have the house maxed out on load not that it ever will but I like over building. So I can have at least 6kW of solar due to two inverters rather than one, not cost affective as one big array but when you have two different roof structures in different locations and the battery power so over 10kW of power that I would never use but would rather have too much than having to balance what and when a device is to be used. I look forward to what you do next

😅 gee man,you could be my twin. My oven uses a stonking 3.2kw until it reaches it set temperature, then it uses 2.3 from there on......so I set my oven to 100 degrees and then turn it up after that point ! Worth looking at I would suggest

Use smart switches (I recommend Sonoff) to switch off most plug points during sleeping hours. The draw from a idle TV and set top box can save a lot over time!

If the TV is off via the remote it probably draws less power than the smartswitch (seriously, look it up, modern TVs often draw less than 0.5 watts in standby ). Get in the habit of turning things off when you don't use them.

    • @smc812
      @smc812 10 місяців тому +1

@@retrozmachine1189 Yes, however many set top boxes as per the OP can draw quite a bit as they typically aren't 'off' but in a standby mode to give you a quicker power up experience. Same can be the case with games consoles where people disable mode that save power to then give a faster power-on.

    • @retrozmachine1189

@@smc812 Good point, but it'd depend on the use case for the STB. If time shifting, satellite/OTA, removing power would disrupt that. Pay TV does background operations all the time such as entitlement management which would also be disrupted that can lead to services being inaccessible for a time. If it's a purely streaming and non-recording at that STB then it'd be OK.

It really doesn't save a lot over time. The 2.5W he saved from turning off his VCR and DVD would cost a grand total of £6 per year at current electricity price cap. That's assuming it is never used, so it switched off the whole time. If you are just switching it off for 8 hours a day while you are asleep, that's just £2 a year. The switches cost about £6 each, so it is going to take three years just to pay for the switch. (And he is using an ancient VHS and DVD that probably has a much higher standby load than modern devices. You won't find much that draws even 1W on standby, so it would take nearly a decade to pay for the cost of the switch.)

@@thomasdalton1508 and a smart switch draws some current too so really not a lot of saving for the small stuff but good for the big stuff. zigbee ones use less energy.

hells bells even with the solar your still using 100+ kwh per week. i got my power down usage to less than 50kwh per week with the highest day being sunday when a roast dinner is cooked 9kwh in a day most others days are around 5 to 7 kwh per day. fitted a small solar array on my shed roof to cover the base loads like fridge and freezer now dropped another 1 to 1.5kwh per day.

We're about the same. 42 to 47 a week, but no PV at all.
By utilising the shower at the gym we attend or the facilities at the wife's workplace (with it's sauna too 😊) we've cut our water heating to the bone, most things are switched off anyway as we're both out most hours plus we've saved an additional 10 to 20K not having solar this and storage battery that etc... 😁
