I've been to London recently...I've managed to interview and record they voice of people on the streets since I'm a language tutor and wanted to bring their voice back to Brazil as to show my students their accent...that was precisely last year and to my mind people are very approachable in London...no one declined my request of asking them a few questions such as what their names were, and their jobs and what they liked about their jobs or about the city...I loved the experience and managed to record about 20 different people not including group recordings... am also very approachable so I think it's sort of a two-way thing.

Having lived in London (Ealing) for 6 months in 1990/91 and having come back a few times since then, I'd have to agree that it is in many ways like other European capital. People are just super busy, but when I stood there with a map (remember no cell phones let alone wifi in those days), people would stop and offer help with directions. London is my favorite city in the whole world. Love the theater scene, especially fringe theaters.

London without apps and technology seems like a completely different city to me! I lived there for 5 years in the 2010s… did you ever go to Battersea Arts Centre? I worked there 😁

@@EasyEnglishVideos Don't think I ever made it to that arts center (US spelling, LOL). Remember the A to Z? Mine became very well used over the years.

Next time you’re back… you should visit if you’re a fringe fan 🙌

As a londoner, I can confirm all these negative stereotypes but conversely I have met many people from small seaside towns like Scarborough or Torquay who are envious of London because there is so much to do there compared to where they're from.

Fair point James! I lived in London for 5 years and was overwhelmed at the overwhelming amount of events you could attend each and every night

People in London are unhappy and they don't know it, especially those who were born and raised there. Very competitive environment with no community feeling.

Many British place names I learned from listening to bands like The Jam. I’ve heard Paul Weller speak of growing up outside London, in Woking. Sounded pretty working-class, not like The City. He also sang about beach towns Selsey Bill & Bracklesham Bay. Know nothing really about them, but am intrigued enough to want to visit.. some day.

I don't think the Londoners can't afford the enough time to think about that. 🤣

I think it's like in every big city - people are busy and everything is more anonymous. That's why I prefer to live in the countryside. 😉 My daughter lived in London during a 4 month internship and she told me it was hard for her to get to know new people besides work. So she invited her German friends to come over at weekends so they could keep her company and she could show them the city in return. 😀

I felt the same way when I lived in London (Mitch speaking) I think people believe they can treat you poorly because they know you’ll probably never see each other again… 😅

The eye contact is a funny thing! Growing up I was painfully shy and my father always told me to look people in the eye (I suppose European women are ok to do that), he said otherwise I came across as “lacking personality”. When I came to NYC I was specifically told not to look people in the eyes, like we are dogs or something… I thought it was the oddest thing…

I still remember two blokes from the South of England who worked up here in the North, and they were two of the most nastiest, horrible and obnoxious blokes I ever had the misfortune to meet.Yet,when I drove down to London to visit family and they took me for a drink in the East End,the people there were great.

So basically same for every capital city. people that originate from capital cities think they are better than others, they are more aggressive, but I am sure they are still nice! Most people living in a capital city has come from somewhere else, normally smaller, often another country all together…

I went to London 6 times!! Always for visiting the city. For me London is very nice because there are plenty of things to do, but in my opinion, it is not very different like other big cities like Paris, Berlin or Madrid. People don't use to talk to you because they are always in a hurry!!! Greta job Mitch and Isi!!!
