But by letting him go, Megatron killed d -16. On top of that, their designs are so good. Yes they're incarnations of their orignal designs. Meanwhile Megatron's is locked away and concealed, and stamped over with the bastardized symbol of his hero. And in order for d-16 to finally achieve that final transformation, he had to rip his own heart out and be *exactly* like Sentinel.

Optimus could have easily chosen to execute the newly risen Megatron then and there. It's subtle and only appears for a split second, but I think one of the most powerful pieces of imagery in the back-and-forth between the rise of Megatron and the rebirth of Orion Pax is that while D-16 is taking the name Megatron for himself out of childish adoration for his deceased hero, Megatronus himself is there among the other Primes, watching over Orion as he ascends into his new status as Optimus Prime. Megatron's very idol, in this continuity, would despise him for sullying his name, using his title and his transformation cog to assert dominance over the populace. 5:24 Just the line alone that there might be some allusion to the theme from my childhood show ‘Transformers Prime’ made me watch that film immediately. It was marvelous. The memories… I’m glad I watched it and glad you made a video about it, too! I felt the film had a rather ‘simple’ story, though not in a negative way; it also explored the days from before ‘Transformers Prime,’ how it got to that point. It’s a prequel to me.
This movie deserved better. Both Paramount and Hasbro should be ashamed. Fantastic analysis, I have to say this take on the origin of Optimus and Megatron was stellar. It really adds to the tragedy that they were once great friends, but then became bitter enemies.
Paramount Pictures is a terrible studio of the main head honchos of Hollywood. I mean they’re just milking the Transformers franchise like it’s Indiana Jones and the MCU before Disney came to buy them from Viacom. And with Michael Bay’s bastardized version of the live action films with no knowledge of the franchise really brought it down to a lower level. It cause the writing team and actual fans of Transformers to make more projects about them that wasn’t focused on humans too much nor being crude like they were giving the die hard fans the middle finger. Transformers: One, Bumblebee, and their current comic book series has done more justice than what Paramount Pictures and Platinum Dunes Productions has ever done since 2007. I’m just an average movie fan and remember seeing the live action film in 2007 on Fourth of July at 10 years old, but there were things that did throw me off. And that would have to be later on down the line by the time the fourth movie came out in 2014. As well as me gaining knowledge of the fictional history of the franchise and its characters. But here’s to more fun and exciting projects from the Transformers series as well as a better marketing team. 🍺🍺
4:43 It was actually both, simultaneously! D-16 rises to power as Megatron, but descends in his morality into a wanton killer. Orion Pax falls to the core of Cybertron after his spark is extinguished to meet Primus, but rises again, reborn as Optimus Prime. “One shall stand, one will fall” Optimus stands gloriously in defiance, D-16 falls from grace and becomes a monster.
My favorite part about this scene is that it can very easily be seen as the death of both Orion and D-16. Orion falls to his death, and the last remaining fragments of D-16 die with him. From there, when they both get their new cogs at once, it's the birth of Optimus and Megatron. Both friends die together, and are reborn together as mortal enemies.
Marketing failed because they focused on comedy and Bumblebee in the trailers. If I would’ve known the film was as deep as it was I would’ve seen it in theaters rather than 123 movies.
This movie made me love transformers. I saw it twice with two different friend groups, and then I went last Wednesday with my parents to see it in the theater before they stopped screening it because I wanted to support the movie.
I've heard rumors. The production company recognized their lack of advertising (and poor advertising at that) was the reason it did not do well. Supposedly another movie was green lit to continue this movie. As fans, we will need to get behind this next movie if it is to continue. But yes....this movie was awesome, and I was happy to hear they will be giving it another chance.
The brothers torn apart by pain and perspective trope is genuinely my favorite in cinema. Obi-Wan and Anakin in Episode 3, Charles and Erik, and now Orion and D-16 it just works so well. I wish this movie made all the money, but I really hope they still get a sequel
i think there's something to be said as well at how D16 was not just angry that pax put him in this mess, but now from his perspective he has the gall to be the one that tells him he's going too far? like its not just "how dare you compare me to this traitor" but there is an extra thick layer of "after all the bullshit you've put me through and you're telling me i need to stop??"
I personally love the moment D-16 rips Sentinal apart. It cements his character as the tyrant who rules with an iron fist, striking fear amongst autobots and decepticons alike. Plus its a great call back to his origin as a gladiator in other media, and a not so nice jazz scene from 2007.
This wasn't the rise of D-16 and the fall of Orian Pax or the Fall of Megatron and the rise of Optimus Prime, it was actually the death of a friendship and the birth of a rivalry
At this point, I've seen the movie, and while it's amazing...there is one scene in the last part of it that soured the experience of its remainder for me. This moment was neither brought up here, and in other videos that I saw that talked about Orion and D-16's relationship, and it's something that's easy to miss, but talking about it will involve spoilers, so read the following at your own consideration: you see, in the last part of the movie, as the four main characters begin their fight against sentinel himself, Orion tells Elita and B that Airachnid, sentinel's spymaster, is the key to bring sentinel down, because her eyes record everything, including all of sentinel's treacherous actions. so, if they will be able to capture her, and show her information to all of Iacon, sentinel will be exposed as the traitor that he is. Now, while Orion explains this plan to his friends, D-16 is engaged in battle against sentinel, and as Elita subdues Airachnid and takes her to Iacon's main comms tower, Orion and B join her...but they seem to completley FORGET about D-16, who STILL fights against Sentinel. Now, whether or not Orion would've stayed with D-16 to fight against Sentinel, I don't think that it would've changed the events that have happened after the info has been revealed about Sentinel to all of Iacon, but it really baffles me that Orion seemingly FORGOT that his BEST FRIEND is in danger! It also sours the rest of the movie for me to a degree, because while Orion's presence wouldn't have changed D-16's actions in my opinion, Orion seemingly ABANDONING D-16 seems to contradict the close bond that the two share with each other. I've seen the scenes where this happens a number of times, and there is no acknowledgement of this action by Orion at all. Am I missing something here?
Just my thoughts my opinion Short: at the final battle D-16 says to orion you are not the boss of me im doing this on my on i just wanna kill sentinel and i wont listen to your orders...not directly said but thats what i see in his eyes . he also gave up life as we see him being tortured to death by sentinel he just does not care. so orion i am guessing he understood that its his fight so they both again went seperate. one showing iacon the truth the other just wanting to kill sentinel LONG:well orion did see what D was becoming in the high guard's lair as to how brutal he was becoming and only cares what he wants not iacon and its people both got seperate ideologies and their view on life orion is always the hopeful while D-16? his world shattered upon learning the truth he pretty much just wanted to kill sentinel and thats about it. orion tried putting D into the team but he rejected every time and dosen't want to listen anybody playing leader ever since he saw megatronus get executed by sentinel......orion at times thought hes not gonna come back but sometimes tries a idea to get him back in a way but all of that backfires as he refuses to listen to his plans which means that well hes tired he just wants to acheive what he wants and also uses the motto " one both has strength over the other "
Yea that part where they just kind of left D-16 behind really shocked me, and the fact that D-16/Megatron does not bring it up at all (well, I guess the movie didnt have much time left in the 3rd act to expand on that but still) makes me think it's just not meant to be something narratively important. If they had even a single shot where Orion looked back at D-16 battling, I feel like it would've indicated we were supposed to take notice of that seeming abandonement. But Doylist explanations aside, I think this could make sense in a Watsonian manner if we assume D-16 had already indicated to Orion he had absolutely no plans of following him (when he shrugs off Orion's concerned servo upon their arrival), distracted by thoughts of vengeance. And for Orion, Airachnid's memory was already his top priority, so it makes sense. But yea, I'd love to see it mentioned in the sequel, or at least fanfic moments somewhere. Its a very interesting choice.
I'm not even a big Transformers fan, yet this film blew me away. I'm still upset it didn't do well at the box office! Good word of mouth was enough to give movies that under performed sequels before, hopefully the same can happen here.
The film was amazing. It's a battle of self. The marketing team thought they had a Bayverse film on their hands and took the same approach as those previous films. I would love to see a saga of films spawned from this animated film. The beginnings of both Optimus Prime, and Megatron, done exceptionally well.
No they didn't 😂, they really didn't. The bayverse films were marketed MUCH better than this film was. The only one they fumbled with was tlk by showing too much footage to the point the whole movie was spoiled in the trailers. Bumblebee's marketing was alright for a small budget film at least and rotb had the most delayed marketing I've seen for a big budget TF film. Tf one just had the most misleading marketing I've seen for a TF film yet.
I was very surprised how much i like it. The trailer did come off very oriented for kids but after watching the movie the ending didnt feel like it was solely a kids movie.
thank you so much for making this gem of a video, it perfectly encapsulates what i think of this movie and scene, (and it also saves my friends from having to listen to me rant for an hour about the beauty of this scene)
Not to rain on anyone's parade, but you can also view this scene as D-16 taking power for himself through struggle and effort. Violent struggle, yes, but he earned the power he took, risked his life for it even. By contrast, Orion was given power as a reward for being 'noble'. It all depends on which the viewer feels is more just. You could even go as far as to assume that all the horrible things Megatron would go on to do was the result of Optimus trying to preserve the remains of a corrupt system in the hope of reforming it, rather than let Megatron tear it down and rebuild a new system from the ground up. Would Megatron have still become a tyrant? Possibly, but it's equally possible he could have become a just and beloved leader.
I think that's the key to a lot of modern portrayals of Megatron. He wants to make a better world for everyone, and recognizes that it cannot happen under the current system. Optimus and his Autobots want to try to fix the system from within the system. Both parties agree that things are broken, but only Megatron wants actual change. It's a major flip from his original characterization, where he was basically just Cobra Commander, doing evil things for no real gain because that's what 80s toy commercial villains do.
This movie is amazing and has no right to be this good. Finally, we got a good Transformers film that actually takes the source material and does something meaningful and substantive with it.
What's kinda sad is that in most continuities, Unicron uses Megatron as a puppet, which ties to his dilemma of not wanting to be controlled. If we somehow get a trilogy, I would like to see the battle of Unicron Vs Primus and how he's going to take advantage of him by infusing his own blood into Cybertron's core
I never noticed the inspiration for "The Fall" was those two scores. It's an absolutely beautiful combination of the two, I wondered why it was so familiar. Thanks for pointing that out
If I wasn't for the fact that I was trying to watch the movie silently in my room at night I would've been jumping up and audibly cheering after the transformation sequence of Megatron and Optimus Prime The juxtaposition between Megatron loudly proclaiming his name while Optimus' starts out loud and bombastic but ends with it being said in a relatively calm manner was just *mwah* chef's kiss
Such a good point. The trailers made this movie look silly, aided at children under ten, and akin to Rescue Bots. These are not bad things if that was the goal, but with what the movie actually was / is the trailers did nothing to convince people to see this movie.
I finally saw it last week, when I went to the movies with my 4 childhood friends they had technical difficulties and we couldn't see the rest of the movie. They also refused to give us a refund. Despite all of this, the movie was great and I love the way this series is going.
Not going to lie... I was not expecting to like this and I was blown away. I'm as OG as og transformers fans get. I did not expect something this good. This was superb , a totally unexpected masterpeice of an animated movie.
3:21 in my opinion Orion wasn't falling to his death, he was invited by Primus himself. The world transforming around Orion so he can get closer to the core.
I think it’s awesome that Optimus and elita got the future autobots and decepticons on the rescue mission working together. It’s like the teams we know and love kicking some team we don’t know about in the ass.
This is one of the best looking animated movies I have ever seen, and someone who watched gen 1 cartoons growing up, this movie was a treat. The only thing I think they could have done better was give the Megatron a more metallic sounding voice like the cartoons
Couple smalls things, cybertron literally moving to allow pax to reach the core and see "primus", d16 declearing himself "megatron" after taking megatronus' cog while everyone watched, while pax is silent, gifted the matrix and is crowned optimus prime. So many opposing parallels in one scene.
As I was sitting in theater and watching this masterpiece, I was crying in disbelief. Since TFprime there was nothing worthy to be called "made with soul".and now I was sitting and watching a movie with was made for fans with love.
Nope. If you check the music name of the OST that plays there, it's The Fall. Because it's not "Rise of" as you put it, but the fall of both. One of them physically, the other - metaphorically.
There is a powerful parallel between Orion's relationship with Elita and D-16's relationship with the High Guard that compliments their rebirth. While Optimus surrounds himself with people who accept him and challenge his worldview, D-16 encompasses his circle with bloodthirsty machines who parrot Megatron's every command.
Something else I love about this scene, specifically when D installed Megatronus’ cog He was fuming, DISGUSTED by the sight of Sentinel with Megatronus’ T-Cog. He personally slaughtered D’s idol, and wore the last functional remnant like a trophy, as if he was Personally disgracing Megatronus the same way he did to D. And then when Sentinel is dead, D installs the cog himself, uses the sticker of Megatronus’ face from the beginning of the movie as a badge of dishonor, and even takes his name. D didn’t just Idolize Megatronus, he projected himself onto Megatronus. So Much so, that he practically became a dark and twisted reflection of Megatronus, and inadvertently disgraced him in the Exact same way Sentinel did A subtle but Oh so impactful moment showing D is too far gone, and proving Orion’s words right. D was Just like Sentinel
4:42 Right. This was the Fall of D-16. He was right, but in the End he was mercyless and more becoming cruel and pessimistic, than rigtheuos and mercyfull. He was about to rip Starscreams Voicebox out, like Bumblebees in Transformers Prime ... He was becoming a Bigger Monster than Sentinel himself ...

D-16 is blind to the fact he's violently disrespected the very being he's shaped his new persona around.
Interesting
Except the past versions of Megatronus were pretty dark too?
@@dubuyajay9964 I never said they weren't? I said this version is the opposite of Megatronus' usual backstory where he went off the deep end and turned traitor.
5:24 Just the line alone that there might be some allusion to the theme from my childhood show ‘Transformers Prime’ made me watch that film immediately. It was marvelous. The memories…
I’m glad I watched it and glad you made a video about it, too! I felt the film had a rather ‘simple’ story, though not in a negative way; it also explored the days from before ‘Transformers Prime,’ how it got to that point. It’s a prequel to me.
Ngl the after credit scene of the decepticons goes really hard
Thought i was the only one
The best scene in the movie is when Darkwing comes saying *"AAAAARRGGHH MINERS"*
*UA-camrs with a loving wife and kids and a successful career for some fucking reason*
@@TheSEAempire *Minecraft youtubers*
The Great War of Cybertron.... was started by a grumpy Darkwing. 🤣
I love the War for Cybertron music in the background of this video
5:00 you sound like a younger optimus prime. Honestly i think you could totally pull that off
This movie deserved better.
Paramount’s Marketing Department to Transformers One: *”I failed you… Old friend.”*
This movie. THIS is the movie i have always wanted.
"You left me no choice...brother." - 2007 Prime
My favorite part about this scene is that it can very easily be seen as the death of both Orion and D-16. Orion falls to his death, and the last remaining fragments of D-16 die with him. From there, when they both get their new cogs at once, it's the birth of Optimus and Megatron. Both friends die together, and are reborn together as mortal enemies.
"one shall stand, one shall fall", the scene laterally made the quote more deeper than i thought.
Another fun piece of symbolism is that Cybertron itself is opening the way for Orion. You can see everything shifting to let him down
"I am done saving you" was my most fav moment in the movie
Marketing failed because they focused on comedy and Bumblebee in the trailers. If I would’ve known the film was as deep as it was I would’ve seen it in theaters rather than 123 movies.
This movie made me love transformers. I saw it twice with two different friend groups, and then I went last Wednesday with my parents to see it in the theater before they stopped screening it because I wanted to support the movie.
This film is PEAK. This movie is THE transformers movie we want, praying for a sequel
Didn’t expect Transformers content from you, SEA! Cool to see you branching out!
"WE NEED A SEQUEL DAMMIT" perfectly encapsulates my opinion on this.
It's been a looooong time since I've felt we needed a sequel to a movie, and I'm glad it's this one :)
Absolutely one of, if not the best, Transformers movie yet! Highly recommended!
This wasn't the rise of D-16 and the fall of Orian Pax or the Fall of Megatron and the rise of Optimus Prime, it was actually the death of a friendship and the birth of a rivalry
The fights were BRILLIANT!
This movie was exactly what we all needed. We all wanted to know how this war truly began, and the comics just weren't giving is enough.
At this point, I've seen the movie, and while it's amazing...there is one scene in the last part of it that soured the experience of its remainder for me.
This moment was neither brought up here, and in other videos that I saw that talked about Orion and D-16's relationship, and it's something that's easy to miss, but talking about it will involve spoilers, so read the following at your own consideration:
you see, in the last part of the movie, as the four main characters begin their fight against sentinel himself, Orion tells Elita and B that Airachnid, sentinel's spymaster, is the key to bring sentinel down, because her eyes record everything, including all of sentinel's treacherous actions. so, if they will be able to capture her, and show her information to all of Iacon, sentinel will be exposed as the traitor that he is.
Just my thoughts my opinion
Short: at the final battle D-16 says to orion you are not the boss of me im doing this on my on i just wanna kill sentinel and i wont listen to your orders...not directly said but thats what i see in his eyes . he also gave up life as we see him being tortured to death by sentinel he just does not care. so orion i am guessing he understood that its his fight so they both again went seperate. one showing iacon the truth the other just wanting to kill sentinel
LONG:well orion did see what D was becoming in the high guard's lair as to how brutal he was becoming and only cares what he wants not iacon and its people both got seperate ideologies and their view on life orion is always the hopeful while D-16? his world shattered upon learning the truth he pretty much just wanted to kill sentinel and thats about it. orion tried putting D into the team but he rejected every time and dosen't want to listen anybody playing leader ever since he saw megatronus get executed by sentinel......orion at times thought hes not gonna come back but sometimes tries a idea to get him back in a way but all of that backfires as he refuses to listen to his plans which means that well hes tired he just wants to acheive what he wants and also uses the motto " one both has strength over the other "
Yea that part where they just kind of left D-16 behind really shocked me, and the fact that D-16/Megatron does not bring it up at all (well, I guess the movie didnt have much time left in the 3rd act to expand on that but still) makes me think it's just not meant to be something narratively important.
I think the streaming sales are giving it a good boost. I read that a sequel is planned and looking good because the home market is picking it up.
Transformers one: no
The marketing team: I’m done saving you
I'm not even a big Transformers fan, yet this film blew me away.
Pretty much my experience. Expected a shitty Illumination-esque kids film, got a great film instead
thank you so much for making this gem of a video, it perfectly encapsulates what i think of this movie and scene, (and it also saves my friends from having to listen to me rant for an hour about the beauty of this scene)
It's like Optimus once said "one shall stand, one shall fall"
Best Transformers movie ever! Bayformers dont get even close to this masterpiece.
Facts, this scene went so hard, that I found myself rewatching that moment from Fandango MovieClips
My child loved the humor in this movie. We both loved the story and action. Fantastic movie for both kids and adults.
When D-16 announces himself as Megatron for the first time, Sends chills through me everytime. Cant get enough of Brian Tryee Henry's performance
I never noticed the inspiration for "The Fall" was those two scores. It's an absolutely beautiful combination of the two, I wondered why it was so familiar. Thanks for pointing that out
The fact that you don't make Transformers videos SHOWS how amazing and mind blowing this movie was! 😂
The scene of Optimus Prime bursting out and taking a pose is a legendary piece of CINEMATIC PERFECTION
It's a sign of a good movie when you give the villian a good point in being the villian.
5:20
There was also armada starscream motive when sentinel died, which symbolized the choice that has been made is done and no longer reversable
If I wasn't for the fact that I was trying to watch the movie silently in my room at night I would've been jumping up and audibly cheering after the transformation sequence of Megatron and Optimus Prime
The juxtaposition between Megatron loudly proclaiming his name while Optimus' starts out loud and bombastic but ends with it being said in a relatively calm manner was just *mwah* chef's kiss
OG fan and this was awesome! Well done
"Hey Darkwing, my finger can transform. Guess which one."
Orion didn’t want to save Sentinel. But he wants to save D-16 from the darksided.
3:21 in my opinion Orion wasn't falling to his death, he was invited by Primus himself. The world transforming around Orion so he can get closer to the core.
Betraying the species is a line I never thought I’d hear but one I need to hear more of
I think it’s awesome that Optimus and elita got the future autobots and decepticons on the rescue mission working together. It’s like the teams we know and love kicking some team we don’t know about in the ass.
this should have happened 15 years ago instead of 2007 live action
This is one of the best looking animated movies I have ever seen, and someone who watched gen 1 cartoons growing up, this movie was a treat. The only thing I think they could have done better was give the Megatron a more metallic sounding voice like the cartoons
Couple smalls things, cybertron literally moving to allow pax to reach the core and see "primus", d16 declearing himself "megatron" after taking megatronus' cog while everyone watched, while pax is silent, gifted the matrix and is crowned optimus prime. So many opposing parallels in one scene.
The fall of D-16 and Orion Pax...but the rise of Megatron and Optimus Prime.😔
if they can hold up this quality war for cybertron might be goated too I PRAYY they did war for cybertron justice
1:29 "Orion being a relentless OPTIMIST"
Now he's a relentless optimus
As I was sitting in theater and watching this masterpiece, I was crying in disbelief. Since TFprime there was nothing worthy to be called "made with soul".and now I was sitting and watching a movie with was made for fans with love.
I saw the scene more as, The fall of D-16 and Orion Pax to the Rise of Megatron and Optimus Prime. One shall stand one shall fall.
The marking for this movie may have failed, but it did do one thing right. It kept all of the major plot and important scenes out of the trailer.
The artstyle is PEAK
Nope. If you check the music name of the OST that plays there, it's The Fall. Because it's not "Rise of" as you put it, but the fall of both. One of them physically, the other - metaphorically.
I hope Blu-ray sales can prop it up.
In one moment you sounded like Optimus and then at the end you like Megatron lol
Perfect breakdown. I think we have watched it 7 times
Something else I love about this scene, specifically when D installed Megatronus’ cog
He was fuming, DISGUSTED by the sight of Sentinel with Megatronus’ T-Cog. So Much so, that he practically became a dark and twisted reflection of Megatronus, and inadvertently disgraced him in the Exact same way Sentinel did
A subtle but Oh so impactful moment showing D is too far gone, and proving Orion’s words right. D was Just like Sentinel
They did Primus so well in this film, even if it was short. I hope we can get another film where Primus actually transforms out of his planet form
I caught that soundtrack. The war for cybertron games are fucking goated, nice taste man
😎
This movie is what I wish the first movie for the bayformers had been. Because imagine what movies we could have had since then
I was happily surprised by how good this movie is. This is the first transformers movie I love since the original animation movie.
you know the creators put their heart and soul into this movie when we have almost everyone who loves this film whether a transformers fan or not. it would be criminal, if this movie doesn't get a sequel, if not a trilogy.
“If this doesn’t get a sequel, I’m betraying the species” is hilarious
I remember how when i first heard there would be no humans kinda worried me since my whole transformers memory had humans somewhere but now after watching it 3 times. HOLY COW WE NEED LESS HUMANS, I LOVED HOW IT WAS ON CYBERTRON AND HOW WE GOT TO SEE MORE OF IT
This should be the movie for big screen 🎉
