Dear Cody, Watching this video honestly gives me warm hope. I am almost 22 years old, and I only started swimming and training on a proffessional level when I turned 15, and I had my first actual race when I was 16. Although people don't put a lot of faith in me, and urge me to quit... even my teammates, I found myself taking half a year break from swimming to find myself. Choosing that this sport is for me, I eagerly took the time off to prepare myself in order to face the difficulties of being a student at a university with no swimmimg team, having a job and putting in the work at the gym and of course the pool. Months of preparing only to be rejected by the new team's swim coach, claiming I have no place im the sport of swimming. Unwilling to give up I found a different pool, where I train by myself, since there are no other teams in my area. Even though at times it feels pointless, I am solwly getting back to my former self, and in some cases even exceeding him. While I wait for my class to start after my swim I opened youtube to watch something while I eat. And there could not be better timing for the algorithym to show me your video at the top of my page. I am truly grateful, and inspired to show everyone and especially myself that I'm capable of more than anyone believes of me. Thank you Cody 🫶🏾
Nice Race Cody. It was your first lap that did it for you. The first race, 9 strokes on first lap, second attempt 8 strokes. Great start and underwater did it. Fantastic!
LET’S GOOOO CODY!!!!!! 🔥🔥🔥 CONGRATS!!!!! 💪🏼💪🏼🏁🏁 Following the 50 free journey since you started haha! This was super encouraging, I have a meet this weekend and haven’t been feeling 100%… this got me pumped up!!
Congrats Cody! Thanks for taking us on your journey to 19 land these last few months. Little jealous since I never squeezed under 21 back in the day. Looking forward to what you do next.

Congrats Cody !!! I’ve been following you and your journey for 6 years. Thanks for sharing your experience and champion mentality in every situation of life and this sport. I really really proud. Good luck Cody Miller.🙌🏻💙🔥
Congrats man. Honestly you’ve just helped me out a bit too with my motivation. I’m not the best of swimmers. I only just started swimming nearly everyday a couple of months ago since my mental health got bad and found it to be something that keeps me going. Though I just had a pretty bad swim today as my foot cramped up and omg it was so painful and would not go away. Since I’m 20 and completely self taught ik i probs won’t be able to ever make a career out of it but watching this vid reminded me of why I enjoy it soo much. So thank you ❤
Congrats Cody! That video gave me so many chills and flash backs to my highschool swimming career. I unfortunately stopped swimming in college but I still watch hyour videos here and there because they are so inspirational. After I stopped swimming I put on weight and have really been missing the sport. I have been wanting to get back in the water and get back in shape but it is difficult to start again. Today you definitely showed that at 21 years old, it is definitely not to late for me to get back in shape. Thank you so much for sharing your victory with and inspiring all of us here on UA-cam! Congrats!
Congrats, Cody, from another Palo Verde alum! You are an inspiring individual. Even though I stopped swimming a few years ago, I still coach a youth team, and you give me a lot of food for thought and vivacity to stay connected with the swimming world. Cheers!
This is so good for you and I will put rays quote on my wall “feels are over rated “ and GOOOOO CODDY YOU ARE THE BEST AND I AM SO HAPPY THAT YOU SEE HOW YOU MAKE PEOPLE FEEL AND THAT IS HOW WE AS FANS ABOUT YOU SO THANK YOU SO MUCH COODY
CONGRATS Cody!!!!!! Soooo cool to see all that hard work pay off. Icing on the cake is the proof that even when you accomplish little things (oh, like say a GOLD medal), you can still set new goals and keep pushing!
After the first try, when they said 20 I was like “oh no!!”. It felt like a tragedy had just happened 😂 I was hoping you would go in again cause I was so sure you could do it (and I know for a fact I’m not the only one who knew you could). Congrats, man! I’m a master swimmer and it’s always so inspirational to see older athletes thrive! Thank you!!!
I needed to see this. I'm 22, I'm trying to qualify for nationals. Been trying since I was 13 and as a teenager, didn't always put in the effort/wasn't always disciplined, but as I've gotten older, I've gotten better at training. As a result, I've been dropping crazy amounts of time (in a year dropped over a minute in the 1500, 10 secs in the 200 bk etc.), the long course 50 fr is the only event I haven't dropped time in since 2023. Last LC season I missed the 200 bk time by 4 secs, this year I missed the 100 IM for SC nats by 0.88. I missed the 5km open water time by 2 minutes in a lake then did a pool TT and went under the open water time but not the pool QT. Next weekend I'm racing the 5km again but at the beach so conditions will play a bigger role and on top of that I got really sick and had to have 2 weeks out. Coming back this week has been garbage and I've been really struggling but this video was great for putting everything back into perspective.
Awesome swim. Now you need to do a 4 x 50 relay at a masters meet and crush some of those world records. Such a great example of perseverance. Congrats.
I hope you’ll transition to coaching after you’re completely done with swimming even if it’s just for fun and not a job. Swimmers need more coaches like you!
6:00 YOU LOOK HUGE😅 6:46 ABSOLUTELY JACKED 😱 CONGRATS ON BREAKING 20s FOR THE 50y FREESTYLE!!!!💪💪💪💪💪🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥😎😎😎😎😎 CODY! My friends and I are trying to break our school record for the 200y MEDLEY RELAY Wish us luck! 🍀 we’re competing in a few days(I’m doing breaststroke😼)
Extremely inspirational honestly - shows that our athletic capacity doesn't end in our 20s but goes on so long as we go on
100% such a inspiring video
I cheered for the 19.87. This entire video is inspirational. And the coaches speech at the end. Every swimmer needs that speech! Congratulations.
LET'S GOOOOOOO! Congrats man 👏
