My favorite thing about this channel is the fact that there's no scientific explanations. Just "wow that tape is sticky" and "omg the bleach made these jeans fall apart" and that's just that. He does it for fun and to satisfy curiosity.
I learnt the other day that packaging is often designed to optimise the space in shipping containers. A product package might seem illogical when you open it, but when boxed up in multiples in the brown cardboard boxes, they form a standard size that will fit, in multiples, on a wooden pallet, which is in turn sized to minimise the wasted space in the shipping container. So the box for the instructions is mostly there as a filler to stop the tape moving in the box. Imagine the effect of over 10,000 rolls in 3,500 sales packages, all packed on a wooden pallet if they were free to roll a couple of inches. It could make the pallet unstable. The size of the packaging was the smallest standard form size that would contain the rolls, without having to get the packaging company to make a new custom cutting die for a slightly smaller box.
There ARE usually reasons for EVERYTHING! I hate when people complain about something but don't check first to see if there's a REASON for it. Or if THEY'RE wrong!*
I used to use this 3m stretchy rubber membrane tape at work years ago. It was like 500$ a roll and it was soo sticky that it would rip pretty much the whole 1/8th inch layer off of plywood or the paint off of walls. If it stuck to your skin you had to use acetone to get it off or it would literally rip your skin off. Haven't seen it anywhere in years now.
@IHas it it 3m VHB tape but we got bigger rolls of them for work. But it is amazing stuff but you need to let it set for 48 to have it strongest effect I also think if he did that with the alien tape he would of had better results I worked with that vhb tape for the last 12 years basically everyday.
In all fairness it did say in the instructions to wash under running water. Not soak and pick at it in a bucket. It may still be reusable if washed per instructions?
What all these test videos forget is that just like alot of adhesives this tape works alot better after it's had some time to set in. They can also sometimes work far better when clamped into place for an extended period of time and not just pushed on with a few pounds of pressure. I say this knowing that it's not always the case but I have used double sided Gorilla tape (i believe that was the brand) but when it failed the first time after loading the shelf right after I put a weight against it for an entire day and it feels like it's bolted to the wall now.
This tape claims not to use adhesives, so comments about set/cure times may not apply. For some uses, it appears ideal. For permanent mounting where some of the forces are shear forces, not so much.
yeah but how many people use acetone to tape things to their walls at home? Sure that would be like the best lab test but these are most of like a DIY home thing

Looks like a giant version of the adhesive inside 3M strips. They instruct to wipe the surface with rubbing alcohol, press together firmly for a total of 60 seconds, and let wall-connected strips cure for 1 hour, removing the object and its connected strips on it for that curing time. You can't do that ofc because this is a one, not two-piece solution, but you can support the object for longer and/or use clamps. You might get better results, but also might not haha. Even the 3M strips say not to hang high value items, or over your bed headboard (ow!), and I've seen them, albeit very rarely, fail over time on heavier objects. Anyway just some context, great vid as usual!

3M's double-sided VHB tape has really good properties and costs a fraction. Not reusable though since you won't be able to remove it. I glued some plastic to a metal few days ago as a temporary solution and tried to remove it. After a lot of struggle tape broke down the middle but the surface was securely bonded.

If you need double sided tape and you don’t want it to go anywhere I highly suggest 3M VHB tape with the primer. That stuff is the real deal but it would destroy a wall so keep that in mind.
There's definitely uses for it but there's been double sided tape for decades now. I wouldn't use any of it as a permanent solution for holding any weight though. Like, I might would use it to hold that shelf into place while you drive a screw through it but I wouldn't be trying to depend on it for years or anything.
It looks like it would be good at making seals for containers like a washer or gasket. Like if you 3D printed a case for something putting that tape on around the lid to make it have a nice seal.
You really need to revisit this. The instructions actually address some things you tried. For instance, it says that any application over painted surfaces or sheet rock are permanent. You would need to sand the wood down to be smooth before it would be an honest test Finally, the surfaces must be clean before you attach it. So their reusable claim may still hold up if you follow the instructions. Lets be clear, I'm just as dubious about its efficacy as you, but you test results are just as dubious :)
For the weights on the shelf. Did you wipe off the make shift wall with a barely damp rag to get any dust that may make it harder to stick. Helps alot.
This stuff reminds me of those slap hand toy's. I felt like you didn't let it dry long enough but even with those toy's after you wash them they don't stick as good either

Glad I caught the premiere, however the chat was VERY chaotic. I wish in the future you have moderators. Other than that I really enjoyed it! Please stop bring up politics in the replies, I dont want people to start arguing!
the box with instructions is for packaging reasons, otherwise with 3 rolls in a square or rectangular package, there would be movement by the 3rd roll of tape in shipping. it is just there to make sure the tape remains stationary for shipping.
Love your videos and went back to watch some of your older ones and couldn't help but noticed that in your onewheel video i live not far from that parking lot
I've seen similar results on other youtube channels. About the shower soap holder though. If the holder gets directly sprayed with water and especially if any of the soap makes contact with the tape, it will come down really fast. Maybe steam and air moisture won't do it but direct hit will.
I got some, played around with it and got a good idea of how it works and how strong it is. The claims are over the top, but if you use it right it's a pretty amazing product. And I found that if I use a heat gun to heat it up it really helps. It's only as strong as the bond you get right at the start. Similar to that clear stuff they used on junk mail when you'd get a letter with a penny or nickle in the window.
Try washing it in Dawn soap. You can use that to make the "stretchy sticky hands" toy sticky again after it gets dirty, whereas using just water to rinse it off doesnt do much
I did put up a small sign, maybe ½ lbs and it was mounted fantastic, until a few hours later where the sign fell on the floor. The tape is only sticky in a short time. It's great for holding a ruler on a board to guide your cut and then throw out afterward.
Yo Tyler I want you to know that we love you and appreciate everything you do. You don’t have to like or reply, of course the only thing that matters is that you know 💪🏻
The box for the instructions is not so much for the instructions, it's more so there to provide padding to ensure the product is not rattling or moving around inside the packaging. Since there's only 3 rolls of tape in the packaging, the 'instructions box' takes up the 4th space. This is very common in most modern packaging, especially smart phones.
I'm a truck driver, I've used it to hold the dog bowl to the floor. To hold the inside door panel up till I put the screws back in, third hand. To seal a window closed, water tight. True high price. But it does work better than duck tape or anything else for the most part. It has its unique uses.
The instructions in these type of tape generally tell you to leave to 'cure' for up to 24 hrs- to get the best result. I put a towel rail up on my daughter' s bathroom over a year ago and it's still up, with several heavy bath towels in it all day every day. They also work much better on surfaces such as metal to tike like my daughter's towel rail.
better off just using industrial grade double sided tape for that, especially if you're looking for something permanent. I used the stuff to add LED strips in my computer case, and it's been holding after 5 years. This stuff is basically the exact same stuff but way more expensive and way lower quality, it just shows the power of marketing.
Suggestion for a video: Buy a bunch of items/tools from Publishers Clearing House and compare them to the name brand version of the same item/tool. Depending on the amount of items you buy you could have multiple videos!!
The commercial also states it sticks to most surfaces. And also says works as permanent alternative to nails. Meaning they don't recommend removing it from drywall.
I'd heard of this stuff and had my doubts it could hold anything up nearly as well as the adds show that it "does". Watching this confirms what I thought.
he did not read all of the direction, you need to let the shelf set over night before putting anything on it, and on the back it actually says to use on clean flat surfaces only and not to put it on painted walls or drywall as it will seal permanently.
Thank you very very much for your videos because a lot of people sell products and it doesn't work you buy things on Amazon and you think it works and it doesn't end up working at all same thing when you order shoes online which is terrible it's good for a person to try shoes on in person cuz each shoe is different each foot is different buying shoes online and you put your size in come to find out the shoe does not fit or there's a problem with something with the shoe so lesson learned but thank you so much for having your UA-cam channel for things like this keep up the good work

The box inside is a spacer.
For the weights on the shelf. Did you wipe off the make shift wall with a barely damp rag to get any dust that may make it harder to stick. Helps alot.
YOU CALLED IT NANO TAPE ON THE SHELF TEST!!!!! MY OCD RN
Oh boooo hooooo
What about your UA-cam name doesn't that trigger your ocd too
All of you are mean 😢

This stuff reminds me of those slap hand toy's. I felt like you didn't let it dry long enough but even with those toy's after you wash them they don't stick as good either
Lol you know what's funny? His shirt says "toyoda" and yesterday I was under my lexus gs300 doing the oil pan gasket and I was waiting on my bro to give me a wrench and I was wondering around looking at the parts and I came across the words "toyoda" 🤣 I thought it was just cause of star wars but I'll be damned it was actually on the car stamped into the metal lol
I love those miracle blade chop & scoops single side edge and wafer thin blade resharpen fairly well for cheap knife
I considered alien tape before. But now seeing Tyler isn't overly impressed, I'm sold on it
Glad I caught the premiere, however the chat was VERY chaotic. I wish in the future you have moderators. Other than that I really enjoyed it!
Please stop bring up politics in the replies, I dont want people to start arguing!

Eyo yeah you right. Chat sucked, but hey. Great video lmao. Also, hi remember me?

(Of course I remember you!)
Did someone say politics?
the box with instructions is for packaging reasons, otherwise with 3 rolls in a square or rectangular package, there would be movement by the 3rd roll of tape in shipping. it is just there to make sure the tape remains stationary for shipping.
Trump or Biden?

Love your videos and went back to watch some of your older ones and couldn't help but noticed that in your onewheel video i live not far from that parking lot
You have to use shelf brackets with the shelf and tape.
I've seen similar results on other youtube channels. About the shower soap holder though. If the holder gets directly sprayed with water and especially if any of the soap makes contact with the tape, it will come down really fast. Maybe steam and air moisture won't do it but direct hit will.
Finally more tape
I got some, played around with it and got a good idea of how it works and how strong it is. The claims are over the top, but if you use it right it's a pretty amazing product. And I found that if I use a heat gun to heat it up it really helps. It's only as strong as the bond you get right at the start. Similar to that clear stuff they used on junk mail when you'd get a letter with a penny or nickle in the window.
you should try hammering the shelf to the wall for the best chances and put it on a smoother surface
Ridge is probably the only sponsored products on youtube that I might consider buying.
Try washing it in Dawn soap. You can use that to make the "stretchy sticky hands" toy sticky again after it gets dirty, whereas using just water to rinse it off doesnt do much
I would say, for a shelf, you need a 90° L to allow enough surface area for the tape to adhere.
You should try doing a control group, like if you also screwed the shelf in and checked how much that can hold
You don’t have to like or reply, of course the only thing that matters is that you know 💪🏻
This tape is outta this world!
Ohhhh, swing and a miss. Didn't get all those "likes" you were going for eh?
The box for the instructions is not so much for the instructions, it's more so there to provide padding to ensure the product is not rattling or moving around inside the packaging. Since there's only 3 rolls of tape in the packaging, the 'instructions box' takes up the 4th space. This is very common in most modern packaging, especially smart phones.
I'm a truck driver,
I've used it to hold the dog bowl to the floor.
It might be good in the rc hobby to hold esc and receivers.
better off just using industrial grade double sided tape for that, especially if you're looking for something permanent.
PCH sells stuff?? I though they just brought balloons and checks to people.
@@hanner8830 Maybe he meant Harbor Freight.
You should do a video testing all the different Dollar Tree knives.
Is it possible the tape has a "cure time" for stuff like shelves?
Of course you"re right....but most of these geniuses wouldn't know anything so elementary...
The commercial also states it sticks to most surfaces. And also says works as permanent alternative to nails. Meaning they don't recommend removing it from drywall.
Great video as always but maybe I'd you used it on a smooth surface like metal
Which strongest 1mm tape would you recommend to stick clips for silicone cases of cell phone?
I'd heard of this stuff and had my doubts it could hold anything up nearly as well as the adds show that it "does". Watching this confirms what I thought.
he did not read all of the direction, you need to let the shelf set over night before putting anything on it, and on the back it actually says to use on clean flat surfaces only and not to put it on painted walls or drywall as it will seal permanently.
Thank you very very much for your videos because a lot of people sell products and it doesn't work you buy things on Amazon and you think it works and it doesn't end up working at all same thing when you order shoes online which is terrible it's good for a person to try shoes on in person cuz each shoe is different each foot is different buying shoes online and you put your size in come to find out the shoe does not fit or there's a problem with something with the shoe so lesson learned but thank you so much for having your UA-cam channel for things like this keep up the good work
I wanted him to do the block test thing and try using smaller people bc a normal person wouldn’t use that much if it cost that much they would use it sparingly
