I agree with you that we need to change our emphasis to social and economic parity. Economic security will help with all social problems. However...if you see and understand what H. Tubman did, it is heroic and extraordinary and should be saluted and memorialized. She was an amazing person in any time and place.

Under the Jackson presidency, he approved the 1830 indian removal act. Jackson was in a family of aristocratic land seeking capitalists, and facilitated the indian removal act, in which the native peoples were coerced off the land they lived and pushed west. At least 4k were killed and a connection with their homes was Broken. This is a footnote on a long list of setter colonialist policy starting with the ensalvement and destruction of Arawak peoples (+200k killed by slavery and murder) and ideology that percipitated in the deaths and mutilation of millions of native peoples lives. Some would call it a genocide, i think we should use that word with care, and i think that warrants it. I dont think we should judge people of the past by todays standards per say, but good god, what exactly are we celebrating by putting jackson on the bill? Tubman is tru example of self sacraficing valor, she represented tru libertarian freedom. She said herself she would take liberty or death and saved many people.

And some of those Native Americans took their black slaves with them. Not making any other point than the fact Native Americans held black slaves also, as did blacks. The democrat party is totally responsible for the crushing of the blacks elected in the south. Wilson resegregated the military. Lets keep our perspective on target, and look at reality of the democrats in the heinous acts of the dems in creating the klan and Jim Crow. This is an ongoing problem with history "teaching". LBJ and democrats fought against civil rights laws, until they found a political win in passing it. The attacks on the court is telling as there is no consistent conservative court in history of US. The point we need Marxism to dismantle racism is absurd. Blacks, (and, brown, and whites) are currently being abused by illegal immigration.

"The debate over America's symbols and monuments has sharpened with the growing mass movement for racial justice in the past decade. The lionization of slave-owners and genocidaires has been pointed out by many as in contradiction to the ideals of democracy and racial justice so often touted as national core values. " Then again, american society as a whole seems to hold a rather short-span myopic, navel-gazing perspective on the broader historical human panorama. There is no shortage of wrongs....then again, there are nuances and context and looking back at history is not to go scorched earth but instead to learn from past mistakes and refrain from repeating them...Which by the looks of current events...we still have yet to learn. Btw...Harriet Tubman deserves all the acknowledgement, respect, admiration and gratitude sent her way but I am sure she would not want her legacy to be appropriated and manipulated.

Being on the $20 dollar bill would be a symbolic statement. But what's the point of symbolism that honors the accomplishments of African Americans from the past while we continue to live in the long shadow of slavery and Jim Crow in the present?
Two things are clear. Addressing the problems faced by African Americans will require addressing the problem that face all Americans. And making this transformation will require a nonviolent social revolution.

You miss the point of CRT. Which sadly seems to be almost universal, even by many who advocate it.
It is critical of the explanation of social hierarchy in terms of "race" as an explanation. It accepts the scientific position of "race" as a social construct used to exploit and control populations, usually in the colonial context, but also more generally. It isn't critical of racism, it's the explanation for racism and why it's so pernicious.
Racism can only be justified if you accept race is something more real than a manipulative lie used to maintain privilege for the powerful "special group" at the expense of everyone else.
Of course, a reason why even advocates misrepresent it, is the only conclusion you can draw as a means of fighting institutional racism is pulling down the structure supporting it. Positive discrimination may help individuals but is counter productive since it actually supports the historical narrative and power structures. Most people baulk at the idea of revolutionary change.
