I just received my bottle today, and lo and behold when I go to do a bit of research on this fragrance who pops up on my UA-cam page. Wonderful review I just read it. About 30 minutes ago and it is doing wonders. Very bright, fresh green, herbaceous with that earthy tones you were speaking of. Absolutely brilliant so far. And off of my skin the rose is coming out just a bit, and I absolutely love it. One of my favorite notes in a fragrance when its not dominant yet. It supports. Great video as always. Cheers, my friend. 🥂
Oohhh you are so right. The extrait is undeniably my choice as a woman and I want to wear. My husband can keep the edp which I recently bought him. Now…how and when can I rationalize getting this for me! Just comfortably handsome and yet beautiful . Thank you !
An Extrait version of this as a gift s quite a beautiful thing to receive. I've purchased the Patchouli Sauvage and Bois Mystique from Houbigant. Bois Mystique takes the cake for me.
I'm so glad you differentiated between "dirty" and "earthy", that distinction can be significant enough to persuade or dissuade me from purchasing. Thanks for the review.
Lanier-- i dont think any men in this time period come any more romantic and nostalic than you, so entertaining u are-- and so beautifuly romantic-- Cheers to you!!
Loved this one Lanier. A gorgeously presented video. It gives me two urges. The first is to sniff this fragrance and the second is to drink a glass of Champagne with Cognac and a Strawberry plopped in. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this fragrance my friend.
You must, MUST smell Fougere Royale. Get thee to London post haste and put your nose next to this one. Magnifque as the French would say. Now then...the Champagne cocktail may be had at any time (within reasonable taste) and at a much lower cost. (unless you opt for Dom Perignon 1962) Cheers Chris.
You Sir, are pure class. A timeless gentleman I'm happy tohave found out about through our wonderful fragrant hobby. I love my EDP bottle and will be using it a good bit this spring and summer. Your Parfum bottle and its presentation is fantastic. Maybe one day when mine runs dry I will opt for the upgrade.
Really enjoy watching your videos Lanier. Informative and sublime delivery! And i also discover all these new fragrances i have never heard of as well. Thank you!
IntotheFire You are welcome and, what a lovely thing to say. Thank you! Houbigant has quite a few wonderful fragrances including the sublime Quelques Fleurs and Iris des Champs.
Hi Hope! That was a simple sugar cube with a few drops of Angostura bitters dropped onto it. It is really best to put the sugar cube in the glass and then add the drops to it. Cheers!
Lanier Smith Lanier, thanks so much for reaching out. Can’t wait to try it. Also, I’ve just subscribed to your channel. Great video & looking forward to seeing more of them. You know some really good people in very high places. 👍. Enjoy the rest of your evening.
OMG ..... I have just found out you are posting again! I was over at the Perfume Nerd and there you were.... just like Liz and Richard ..... I have missed your cocktails and scent reviews . Love a Champagne Cocktail and you MUST tell us about that train and the Burtons! Do not tease Lanier :) I have never smelt Fougere Royale but ... I just love Jicky so I bet I would love it too even though I am not a man. What a wonderful gift !
I just picked up this gem. I came to youtube to get a reviewers perspective on it. I should've known that this was in your collection Lanier. Excellent review as always my friend. I am SUPER excited that I now own the Granddaddy of all Aromatic Fougeres.
- wonderful review. I realize you published this awhile ago, but I think it is fair to consider thus a timeless one. My favorite three things about this are the amazing Limited Edition presentation, the outlandish and unfair teaser, about your time with the Burtons, and the understated, gentlemanly elegance of your timepiece.
Your review has certainly aroused my interest in this fragrance. I love the historic appeal of it and the bottle is beyond beautiful! Currently I have too many bottles but when one of them runs out, this fragrance may be a contender as replacement. I have found an internet seller but I prefer to buy fragrance from a shop so I can try it on before buying. I have made too many mistakes in the past, based on my penchant for pretty bottles!
Ah, good question. It was a thank you gift from one of my favorite sales associates at Nieman Marcus. He taught me so much about fragrance. Cheers James.
Love the bells in your intro! This juice is really good...I enjoy it quite a bit. Its on my to buy list and has been for sometime...just havent pulled the trigger yet...I know MiN carries it. Thanks for the review Lanier.
The Bopper OMG it's The Bopper! I just love your name. Thank you. One is limited in the sound effects department with IMovie...it was either bells or crickets. I thought the bells work more in my favor. Cheers and get to MiN post haste! Tell Chad Murawczyk I said Hello!
Your reviews are always amazing. I always look forward to what's next as they are very helpful in my quest for timeless and wonderful perfumes. A request please, can you do reviews on either or both (comparison) on Jean Louis Vermeil pour Homme and the classic Davidoff for Men? Thank you Lanier. - your fragrantica mate, redpula....
Red Guthrie So glad you enjoyed the review. I do have Jean Louis Vermeil so that review is coming. But as for the 1984 Davidoff for Men I don't have it and can't find it anywhere. But if I do see it I will take a look at it. Cheers!
I was wondering if fougere royale can be compared to others? What is the appropiate age in your opinion that somebody can wear fougere royale? For example I have 26 years old
Well it is the father of all Fougeres such as Chez Bond by Bond, Dolce & Gabbana Pour Homme. and Legend by Montblanc....just to name a few of many many Fougeres. As or age I an not one to put age limits on fragrance. If you love it then wear it. Try to get a sample first for it is rather expensive. I just want to make sure you like it before you buy it. Cheers and thanks a lot.
This stuff is magical, one stunning and beautiful fragrance. You always get your vicious reform geeks and what a perfect way to put those idiots in their place, you explained perfectly why we shouldn't lose sleep over reformulation. Great review. Oh, and I love champagne also.
Neil Atkinson Neil thank you so very much! You are very kind indeed and I am happy to see that I am not alone in the wilderness when it comes to re-imagined or reformulated fragrances.
Thank you for a wonderful and influential review. I ended up purchasing a bottle and it's exactly how you described it! I am wondering if you have tried the Cologne Intense. While I was at it I purchased Cologne Intense. Spectacular! I would love to hear your thoughts one day on Cologne Intense. Thank you again Lanier!
Gorgeous bottle Lanier you are clearly loved. I love your reviews so much but I think you need to branch out. "Story Time With Lanier" would have me glued to your channel waiting impatiently for the next instalment. Please don't hesitate to share that amazing train journey with the Burtons 😄
Thank you for your kind response. I am sorry I sent such a sharp response. It takes a lot of work to replicate a vintage perfume but it can be done.Thank you.Kev
+Kevin Verspoor you are so very welcome Kevin...no hard feelings on my part. I admire your talent to be able to create perfume...the smoke of the Gods. Cheers.
Ahhhh... well it is a long story. But I shall come back to visit. Yes I did tell my ET and Me story. And here it is. sentsmemory.wordpress.com/2012/11/18/memory-e-t-and-me/ Also check out my review on there Elizabeth Taylor perfumes here: ua-cam.com/video/LNrnXo6AL48/v-deo.html Cheers JloveLamar!
Lanier Smith I've read that and I swore I knew the picture being with you was what you meant, but I just had 2 make sure I did not miss something! P.S, I have seen, and enjoyed your E.T fragrance reviews! Thank you so much! Whyyyyy did you have 2 leave SF? I always wanted 2 see u in passing :*(

You are so wrong, it is very EXTREMLY easy to replicate a vintage perfume. It was made well until the 1980's and it sill smelled like the original fragrance. My 4 ounce bottle of the Parfum of Fougere Royale from the early 1920's is one of the most wonderful fragrances ever made. The new fragrance is a hideous rendition of the original. The material in Tonka bean is pronounced ( Coo ma rin) = Coumarin. This is a horrible rendition of the original it should not even have the same name.I have been a perfumer for over 20 years> I love Houbigant's vintage perfumes. I know that you can duplicate the original because I already have. It smells just as amazing as when it was first created in the late 19th. century.
What a great intro music...On her majesty's secret service....my favourite Bond....

hello from Moscow 🙋♀️ thank you for the video
The box and the bottle are spectacular.
wagsbass Pretty amazing presentation for sure. Cheers wagsbass!

Lanier-- i dont think any men in this time period come any more romantic and nostalic than you, so entertaining u are-- and so beautifuly romantic-- Cheers to you!!
Mr. Smith, but that presentation box corresponds to the "Extrait" (parfum) version, much denser and more expensive than the "EDP" version, isn't it?
What’s the difference between the EDP and houbigant fougere royale extrait de parfum ?
i blind purchased fougere royale after watching your vid :-) waiting now for it's delivery. thank you for your recommendation. cin cin !
Ariel I certainly hope you like it. Cheers and cin cin to you as well. Ciao!

I feel a blind buy coming on. It's only £54 on All Beauty!!!!🙈
Very informative, very detailed and I love all of the background and history. A great fragrance. This one is the next on my list!
+Jeff Burton thanks Jeff! I think Fougere Royale should be on everyone's list.
in the same boat as creeds bois du portugal..great stuff
+Hermon Bennett what a lovely comparison! Cheers.

Hello, between Houbigant-Fougere Royale and Nicolai-New York Intense which one is the better fragrance if you could buy only one?
@@JJHills-ho3br hi! I would go with Fougere Royale. Cheers

LadyKoKo B Yes there is a similarity for me to Jicky. So happy to see you here and yes there will be the Burton's story.
Lanier Smith Goody !

I'm in the process of buying online this never tested before scent. I'll let you know. ;-)
How are you able to get that bottle with that box? I thought the normal one come with a normal paperbox?
The box alone is a good reason to own one!
Ah, good question. It was a thank you gift from one of my favorite sales associates at Nieman Marcus. He taught me so much about fragrance. Cheers James.

Great review! Is this the Extrait version?
Lanier, I've always been interested in Duc de Vervins, either the EDP or EDT. Have you ever tried these? (I also sent you a PM with a question in it.)
John David Yes I have tried Duc de Vervins. I was not that impressed. Not bad but nothing exceptional. I will check my PM. Cheers.
