They never changed company, it's just Beat was much smaller - when a.c.e started out they had no mirrors, nothing, now they have that studio in the Changer dance practice, their own logo etc. Still criminally overlooked though! Thank you so much for checking them out 💜
I've been asking myself for the last 3 years how it's possible for them to be so far under the radar and I still don't have an answer other than "they're from a tiny company". I see people talking about them online even outside the little Choice bubble, but for whatever reason their growth is just really, really slow. It almost feels like a lot of people like A.C.E well enough on a superficial level but not enough to actually get into them for it to reflect in their overall sales/view numbers. Which is a shame and just a little heartbreaking.
Changer is such a bittersweet song because it's so bright and happy and feels like a warm, comforting hug but the knowledge it's also the last OT5 song we're going to get for a few years rests in the back of your mind... I still love it a lot though, and I think it's a perfect "see you later" song. 🥰

Oh my god, welcome to my world bro! Cactus is one of my favourite songs EVER, not even just within kpop. I literally can’t begin to describe how it makes me feel knowing that it’s so slept on 💔 it’s truly CRIMINAL how this song has perpetually maintained a sort of ghost status among kpop circles. I don’t even see many Choice talking about it which is honestly just bizarre to me?? Ace’s missing popularity is deadass one of the 7 mysteries of kpop at this point, I don’t understand it and probably never will 😭
Cactus is one of my favorite debuts I've heard. May honestly be my favorite. They are so damn talented!!!
You've come to the point that all CHOICE get to fairly quickly. They're amazing singers and dancers, why are they so vastly underrated?? Since you asked, I'll give you the reasons that have been tossed around. I'm not saying every one is true, or that I'm right, just listing the reasons I've heard over the years. Some seem ridiculous, some are systemic, and some are probably valid.
1. Some of them started as trainees a lot older than most trainees. Particularly Donghun, who was a vocal teacher in college when he "started" training.
2. They are all shorter than the average for idols.
3. They are from a small company. For many years they were the only artists with the company. That's nothing to sneeze at. The thing to remember is that in Korea, groups are like football teams in America. People have their favorites and they consider it disloyal to like/follow/adore other groups. It has only been with the rise of international fandoms, that "multi-fans" have really multiplied the fanbases.
4. Beat Interactive (same company) is only one of three entertainment companies "run" by women in Korea. The other two are run by wives of the men who either ran it before them or own it. This one I buy into. Korea is still a bit behind in women's equality. The system is very misogynistic and in an infamous clip, YG comments to CEO Kim Hye-im that she's "very attractive for a CEO"...for real?! She is the first and with that comes struggle regardless of the setting.
5. CEO Kim encouraged the group to educate themselves with Women's Studies after a particularly sexist comment during their MixNine days. She also okayed them debuting in the "shocking hot pants" that "look like underwear" because if women are encouraged to wear short revealing items why shouldn't the men?! They also tend to push the boundaries of gender norms, particularly Byeongkwan.
6. They weren't conventionally handsome. Only WOW and Chan were, at first, considered handsome as trainees. Now of course they have all matured into gorgeous men.
7. No one knew exactly what to do with Byeongkwan. (The answer is, whatever he wants.) Was he the main singer? The main dancer? The rapper? The leader? Plus he looks so unusual due to the lack of pigment in his hair and eyes. (Of course, he has the most beautiful eyes in KPop so I've never understood this argument.)
8. Their songs (EDM) and concepts (sirens and space?) are always unique and boundary-pushing, not the standard repetitive KPop choruses that crack the Billboard charts.
9. Their fans are mostly international. (And?)
10. The bigger companies control the TV shows and Charts in Korea and they don't allow the smaller companies to get the same airtime that the bigger groups do. Why would they, when they're already competing with the bigger companies? And again we hit the "good old boys" type system. Several of the CEOs have been friends for years.
When you think about all the reasons why they are underdogs it is truly amazing that they have the views/following/fanbase that they do. I will say that of all the fandoms I am a member of, A.C.E appreciates their fans in a more personal and interactive way. Also, CHOICE never ever gives up, even now with WOW and Donghun fulfilling their military duty, CHOICE is still streaming, voting, buying, and doing everything they can to get more people to give A.C.E a chance and join the fandom. Donghun is my bias and I feel you - my eyes are always drawn to him despite them all being incredible performers and artists!! They're just so good.
There are subs for Changer on the Changer mv that's on the 1theK channel. :) Changer is essentially a fan song that was a gift to Choice before Wow and Donghun left for enlistment. In the mv, you can see messages on the screen that are actual tweets by real Choice.
I've heard by everyone that Cactus was the FIRST hard edm song in kpop. A.C.E is out here being pioneers in music and no one cares. :( Also, the lyrics in Cactus are about A.C.E's experiences before they debuted. More specifically, before they debuted, they were busking in the streets to gain a following and to raise money, and in the beginning, no one watched them.
They've always been with Beat Interactive. But they didn't have a logo appearing in mvs until like last year.
Thank you for loving ACE so much. Yes, Beat Interactive is the name of their company. I agree, they are criminally underrated. For the majority of CHOICE, we have our bias but we're also OT5.

Many of us are OT5, myself included. Welcome new Choice! But really to experience Cactus properly you gotta watch a hot pants version, I recommend the relay dance!
Yeah, A.C.E. is really underrated I think unfortunately part of it probably has too do with them being under a small little known label. Here's hoping they get their first win soon!

Ah Changer always makes me feel some type of way, they have had brighter concepts before and a lot of their b-sides are on the brighter side. Actually they were preparing for a full album comeback when they recieved Wow's conscription notice so they decided to put that on hold and throw together something that they can complete quickly for one last OT5 comeback as a present to Choice before Wow and Donghun enlist so the song itself and the MV are about Choice and for Choice, they've only been gone for a little bit but I already really miss Wow and Donghun 😭

My bias is Wow, but I admit that everyone else is definitely a wrecker. If you would love to see them killing it in English, check out their cover of the 5SOS song “Youngblood.” It’s so good.

also groups who are underrated are usually from small companies who just don't have the same exposure or opportunities as big labels. a.c.e for example are the first (and i think still only) group under beat. there are many many more groups like them who are way more underrated than a.c.e are currently, many fantastic groups you have never heard of. it's sad but it's the reality
Beat signed a vocal group named Forestella back in August but they aren't an idol group and they haven't released anything under their new company yet. They also signed one of the members of g.o.d back in June. I think that's a promising sign that the company is growing. :)
Also, the logo on the Cactus practice (that's fun to say) video was for One Million dance studio since they did the choreo.

; Actually all along they've been in Beat interactive. JUST that their logo takes awhile to be designed and appear. So that's why. And they're all actually talented trainees. They're not 'rookies'. Since And yes they're gaining more recognition now. Even since their Goblin(Fav boyz) song. That's a mixture of traditional korean turning into modern korean in terms of outfit wise. They're really versatile. And yes Donghun and Wow are enlisted alr.
You're right the fact that most choices stan them as a whole since picking a bias is difficult as they all stand out alot. But some choices do have specific bias too. Wow is definitely my bias. Absolutely love Cactus and was so happy that you watched the first dance practice as it's one of my favourites. It makes me upset and angry that A.C.E are so underrated. They are so unbelievably talented and for me one of, if not, the best kpop group for sure. Vocals, rap and dancing is so on point. I have spent the last hour or so watching all of your A.C.E reaction videos, and I completely agree. It's a crime that A.C.E is so underrated - every title track and album are complete bops. I am patiently waiting for the time A.C.E performs their songs in much bigger stages and gets the overdue recognition they deserve.

Cactus is one of the songs by A.C.E that I really like as well and got me into listening to more of their songs outside of their covers (which are fantastic). But if you like this song and style I’m sure you will also like Callin’ which came out as their next single, and also has awesome choreography. It was also from 2017.

I know you are just starting your journey but I wanted to toss a couple of my faves your way beside the ones you've already heard "Talk You Down," it's from their newest album is absolutely beautiful, and also "Spark," it was the ending theme for a KDrama over the summer, so their is an MV but it's cut with clips from the show and the boys singing it. Also the kdrama was good "Light on Me," if you watch those.
Hi RJ, I really enjoy your reactions! I recently discovered ACE and I love them. I like how they break gender norms, their dancing is incredible (did you know there's a 1.5x and 2x faster version of Cactus? Look it up, if you want. They gave their all in it). The vocals are great and their voices are really distinguishable. It's sad that Donghun and Wow are leaving for quite some time. My bias is BK (I've also got a soft spot for Jun), but I appreciate them all. They're such likeable people and they deserve more.
Another underrated group I'm really into is Oneus. I enjoy their theatrical concepts and their dancing is exceptional.
I watched all your TXT reactions, although I already knew TXT before. Your Blue hour reaction was a replica of mine. Instant Yeonjun bias. But I realized I have a pattern: I tend to bias main dancers.

Thankfully A.C.E. isn't as overlooked internationally, they have a fairly large overseas fanbase, which is why they work so hard to speak to Choice in English.
Beat Interactive is a small company, the CEO (she's a role model) was a vocal coach at JYP, which is where Chan & BK were recruited from. A.C.E. is their only group. They used just recently acquired their own dance studio, Choice was so proud! They also still busk, which is such sn experience! They also still train with Lia Kim (she loves them) & the 1M dance studio crew.
This was the 1st video I watched after seeing them busking to BTS in Hongdae. Highly recommend!!!

don't pay attention to the views, ads make a big difference, A.C.E's company doesn't use them. Some kpop MVs have tens of millions of views, but 80% of them are from ads and there are barely any likes. The views are not an indicator of how popular the group is.

They are talented like literally ACE in everything. Plus all are visual. Huh... I think why people still sleep on them because first. They are in a small company. 2nd needs more promotions, and 3rd 1/2 of kpop fans are just in to whats hype or just to those who are already popular to make then says that they are legit kpop fans. But they don't see the talents and art of music.
