I wish you could see the live action! Leslie does a outstanding job on this one

This song basically won Leslie Odom Jr. the Tony award. Can’t wait for your reaction to the actual film!

I think one thing that’s important about this song is Burr’s realization that if he wants to make progress in his career, to be in “the room”, he has to start taking action instead of “waiting for it”. This sets up the rest of the plot!

Daveed Diggs embodies Jefferson in this performance. Pouring himself a glass of champagne. Yelling “put it in Virginia” during the argument about the capital just a little behind everyone else so you can clearly hear him. Also love his little dances.

The theatrical needs to be seen. You must do a watch party as you are missing a lot. Leslie (Burr) is outstanding.

NYC was the nation's capital at first. The compromise that occured in "the room where t happened" was to move the capital to a spot on the Potomac River....the city of Washington D.C. did not exist yet! The area was/is a swamp. Before D.C. was built, the capital moved from NYC to Philadelphia for awhile.

Absolutely criminal you haven’t watched the live version of this on Disney+. One of the best live performances I’ve ever seen

If you ever get to see the full live version, this is one of the performances I would love to see you react to. It's simply amazing. The choreography is perfection and the vocals are everything.

This song/performance is why I watched Hamilton. We need to do a live Disney watch when you finish your reactions so we can be sure you see the insane dancing. Leslie's dancing in this is just amazing. At one point he's standing on a table covered by a cloth and he does this tiny hop and a guy pulls the sheet out. You know how much trust you need to have in that extra? It's probably the most dangerous stunt in the musical. Half a second off and you've hospitalized the antagonist/chorus (in the Greek sense wherein he soliliquies the play in many parts)

Hi, Xavier! This is my favorite piece in Hamilton. Leslie Odom, Jr, who played Burr originally and in this cast album, is beyond fantastic. He's on fire: showing the true frustration Burr felt.

Hi, your Hamilton fact peddler is here to thank you for your reaction and drop some Hamilton Theatre Facts! There are some awesome things about this song that I love. The choreography is a marvel, and I can't wait for you to see it during a full movie watch. However, some impressive things about the music were pointed out by Howard Ho, who did a UA-cam series on the music of Hamilton. I'll share some of his insights, but please do watch his videos when you finish Hamilton, even if it's on your own!

People say this number is what won Leslie the Tony for best actor over Lin, who was also nominated. But even though this was undeniably a highlight, Leslie's acting was first class throughout the play and he deserved the award, showstopper or not.

I can't wait for you to watch the live-action. Leslie (Burr) is electrifying in this part.

There are actually NINE cities that have been considered capitals of the U.S.A. (some officially, some unofficially) before it was finally decided that Washington DC would be the permanent capital in 1800. There was Philadelphia, Baltimore, Lancaster (for one day), York (anyone who knows the War of the Roses might find those last two ironic since both of those were during the Revolutionary War), Princeton, Annapolis, Trenton, New York City, then finally Washington DC.

Hi Xavier. Since the Hamilton live clips are getting harder to find, let's just do the live watch-along of the full play. Just announce the date and time and we'll be there. That way you don't get the ending spoilt for you.

This song is actually a great nod to history. In actual fact, the specifics of this meeare not recorded. Lin's use of an outsider, Burr, to express the publics curiosabout the specifics AND Burr's need to be an insider was just brilliant.

To answer your question: The U.S. capital was moved several times. At the time of Hamilton, the capital and the major banking and financial institutions in America were in New York City. The Southern states (in the play, represented primarily by Jefferson and Madison) wantedcthe capital in the South because they thought it would give the Southern states more power. Hamilton wanted a national bank and for the federal government to assume the state debts to make the unity as a country (as opposed to regional solidarity) stronger. A common, federal money, instead if each state having it's own money, was also a Hamilton goal. He didn't really care where the capital was because he saw the power of the country in a strong economy, not the location of the capital city. So, the meeting was used to give the Southerners who opposed his bank and financial system the capital in exchange for giving Hamilton a national bank, a federal money system, and keeping the financial structure of the country centered in New York. The art of the compromise...
