Thank you for sharing your perspective on the video. I was wondering if the UK could or would enjoy the joke and comedic silliness of the character. As far as what we (most people) learn, I don’t think most Americans know our own history well, let alone the history of other countries (kind of really sad). I’m glad to hear you enjoyed the character and song. Jonathan Groff and his spittle performances are comedically epic and awesome fun!

America defeated the British at the battle of Yorktown. It was the birth of the US. The world had indeed turned upside down.

George Washington was a very tall man, for that period in time, 6'3" and he was a national hero and legend before he became president. John Adams was 5'6, just around average for the time, but absolutely puny looking next to Washington. John Adams was instrumental in drafting and the ratification of the Declaration of Independence, and the Constitution, served ambassador to the UK, France, and to what is now the Netherlands, and was Vice Pres, to Washington, But, he was "anticharismatic" (as Hamilton would call him later). He was fantastic at crafting a case or policy, but he was also widely disliked. He and Jefferson were initially bitter rivals, but later reconciled and corresponded with each other for the last 14 years of their lives. They died on the same day.

Honestly here in the USA in history class they just blame everything on King George. Which I don’t completely find fair. Because Ik parliament had to make most of the decisions and the King just puts his name on the documents.

As an American, I never really learned much of the background of King George. I didn’t even know until more recently that he was “The Mad King”.

The portrayal is far too American to be credible. But then, it is historical fiction. It was Lord North, the PM who pushed for the taxes that angered the rich colonists. Please note the lyric: "Remember we made an arrangement when you went away." This is key to understanding the reason for the insurrection. The colonies were a commercial enterprise, nothing more - nothing less.

It's great to see your enjoyment! Someone already answered about the Battle of Yorktown. The Americans really struggled in the war for the first 12 years (earlier in the musical Washington mentions he's working with 1/3 of what Congress promised in aid.) It was only until 1777 when British General Burgoyne surrendered that the tide began to turn for America in the war, and that was only 4 years before this last battle depicted here. It's legend that the British troops played "The World Turned Up-side Down" as they retreated, as a sardonic way of saying "the world really must be turning upside down if these underdogs could beat us." But even the first record of this tale was admittedly gotten secondhand, so it was likely just extra flair someone made up for a good story. The real witness accounts show American musicians were playing all sorts of their own music at the time, while the British troops' retreat drumming was careless and melancholic. I doubt they had any energy left for that kind of ironic humor in the defeat of the moment. Nevertheless, it's the legend that's been passed down by word of mouth since 1821.

There was no direct heavy bomber replacement, as the Vulcan was the last RAF heavy B. But the missions of the Vulcan - both nuclear and conventional - were taken on by the Tornado. After the end of the Cold War, the nuclear bombing role was withdrawn from the RAF leaving them as conventional only. Tornado itself has of course been withdrawn, with its roles taken on by the Typhoon and Lightning. The Nuclear deterant was then put on the Submarine Fleet.

Not sure if someone mentioned it, but just in case you didn't learn this in school: The "Boston Tea Party" of 1773 is taught heavily in American schools, when the colonists protested taxation without representation, and which led to the American Revolution. That's the reference at the beginning of the song to "You cry into your tea which you hurl in the sea when you see me go by..."

About Peggy: There's not an aweful lot to know about her. Lin said, that her story was basically that she "married rich and died young". I do think I read somewhere that Hamilton actually wrote a play planning for Peggy to play the main character. Seriously, I'm not sure about that but it is possible since he was a writer and seemed quite close to Peggy. At some point Peggy then went ill and Hamilton visited her and often informed Eliza on how Peggy was doing. When he intended to go back to his family Peggy requested for him to stay. She was doing better for some time but eventually died (Age 42). Hamilton told Eliza in a letter that he would stay for the funeral and then come back. Also she died in march of 1801, 8 months before Philip Hamilton was shot in his duel.

Its a live recording, fouth take I believe. He does a lot of live one takes. He is Welsh, lived in Brighton for quite some time. Is now in Calgary Canada receiving medical treatment in order to reverse damage frim Lymes disease. Just did an interview with Justin Hawkins from The Darkness well worth a watch. He only had a couple of guitar lessons is self taught. Many musician reactors have said he must be classically trained but he is self taught. Genius level artist imo just crazy but hi Suggest you look him up @renmakesmusic for more info and maybe sub to him.

We have the potential for the divine and for evil within us freewill gives us the power to choose. The Devil is "The Accuser" not just before God, for as long as you have consciousness, day & night it accuses your light. Some people end themselves just to shut that voice up and that was that voices true purpose. When he says "Ima f'ing end you Ren" the accuser's voice says "let's f'ing have you then" to the British that means "let's do this", because the accuser's goal was self deletion of Ren. This voice is within everyone it's the knowledge of good & evil. If you do good because you have no freewill is it good or are you a robot? We have freewill to know the good the bad and make the choice the accuser will always tempt you to your end & the divine will remind you of the consequences. You will never shut that voice up, that's why he says it's a coin with 2 different sides. Even Jesus was tempted (if you're of the faith) are we better? He had the power to choose (if you're of the faith) so do we. The lesson in all this, is if this world will tempt and crucify those who make all the right choices, will we not be tempted? Will we not suffer? Of course we will but carry that weight with joy because it makes you stronger. It's not about killing that voice it's about taking away it's power it's about managing that voice understanding it's goals and rejecting it. Carl Jung called it "The Shadow".

Ren was misdiagnosed a decade ago by doctors. He actually had Lime Disease but they thought his mind was playing tricks and gave him strong drugs psychotropics and told him he was crazy. The Lyme disease ran amuck for 7-8 years. He is currently in Canada receiving treatment to undo all the damage done. his life was dramatically shortened by the misdiagnosis but he is doing his best to stay in shape and recover all the stolen years past & future.

If you want to see him truly sing like an angel watch "Chalk Outlines" by Ren & Chinchilla LIVE (he uses a hallways for natural reverb) it's about self deletion, depression, addiction and over prescription or "How to Be Me" by Ren & Chinchilla LIVE, it's about a friend of Ren who self deleted himself on a bridge like the one where they sing.

Just to let you know if no one else has that it’s Angelica, singing the woman’s part, not Eliza, in the show. Is wearing a black dress for mourning and she’s also in tears singing about what’s going on. It’s rocky for the rest of the show, but the next one is more political. You’ll be glad. In fact, the first part is very funny with Madison showing is a human being in Jefferson showing where the jerk he is.
