If anyone of you panicking about this, just want to give you tips on how I managed to get rid of it. I had this aweful smell (Burnt smell) whenever I go, I panicked thinking I must be nuts cuz I really hate the smell. It bothered me so much thats why I did some research and I found out I had Phantosmia. I couldn't stand the smell that I had to put vicks inhaler near my nose just to get rid of the smell. I even put fragrance/perfume just to avoid smelling it. So I took Antihistamine cetirizine(3x a day) 10g per tablet for a few days. You can use any brand of antihistmine. And I also used Saline (Sodium Chloride) nasal spray, you can buy it over the counter. I used it 3 times a day for few days. Im perfectly fine now thanks God, I experienced the burnt smell for I think 4 das. I hope this will work for you as well.
@RainbowDreams30 its so hard im having it now.. I had colds (runny nose) for 2 days then suddenly I smell burnt!! everywhere its making me crazy.. Im actually panicking but i tried to relax my self.. Some said must be covid 19, so Im scared to go to doctor cuz im pretty sure they will ask me for swab test.! How are u feeling now? I tried to use vicks Id or put abit of perfume outside my nose atleast i can smell it rather than smoke. I have non allergic rhinitis which clogged my nose sometimes whener its cold. And Its not helping me right now.
The smell I'm smelling everywhere has come back after a 7 month absence and its indescribable . I brush my mouth heavy, take 2 showers a day yet still the smell is everywhere and only I smell it. I noticed its triggered when I eat grape products like raisin bran and jelly spread for bread.
I forgot to say even though it hasn’t helped much, I do get relief from smelling essential oils! I was told to use 4 scents. Rose, lemon, eucalyptus and possibly cinnamon or clove I think. Also smelling my skin helps. I keep my hand right at my nose and the smell goes always for a little. Hope this helps someone.
My mum seems to have the same problem for quite a while now (at least for 4 years, she's in her fifties), smelling some kind of burnt smell or gasoline, it comes and goes. Moreover, she has a distorted sense of smell. The doctors she has been to so far had no explanation. Thank you for the tips with the essential oils and smelling one's own skin, gonna suggest them to her
Today by accident (I googled for headache + weird smells) I realized that I have this "condition" for quite some time. It comes and goes, sometimes it lasts for 1-1,5 days. I smell two types of smells, it's either some kind of mix of smoke and dust (or sthing like that) or it's like exhaust fumes, seriously. Until now I didn't know why do I smell these, actually I searched for the source of these smells in my apartment because I thought it's coming from somewhere, but no. I can smell it right now too since afternoon...
@@S4NTIS0 I quit my old job and started a new one with much less stress. Also I started taking vitamin B komplex. The combination of these two helped because I don't have migraines all the time and I don't have these weird smells anymore.
After several weeks now I'm pretty sure in my case it's related to serious stress. I'm not pregnant, I'm not a woman, I have no nose or brain illness. I have a journal about headaches (+smelling hallucinations) and my job and it's very closely related.
Okay is it burnt? People are saying they smell something burning. I don’t. It’s odd, it’s a smell that I don’t know what it is. I’m only 13 😥 Oh and I don’t smoke either.
I woke up today to the smell of perfume, as if someone had sprayed it on me. After a minute or more of being awake and while sitting up on bed, the scent went away. It did smell nice but I'm not sure as to why I smelled that. I don't have any perfume with that smell. In case you are wondering, I'm the only female at home and hubby and son were both fast asleep. I've had a headache for about 36hrs.
I should do the same cause I’m really freaking out I’m scared that it’s a tumor even though I assume that the chances that it is a tumor are very low. Did your doctor said that tumor could be a cause of Phantosmia? Thanks for replying and have a great day

me. i get chronic sinus infections. i smell smoke, mostly cigarettes. ive actually woken up smelling cigarettes, but no one smokes in my house. ive also smelled other smells mentioned above.
I do suffer from sinus and when i was young i had a big head trauma bcz i was assaulted and caused me a head injury. About 3 month ago i started picking up a smell even when i am alone in the room and when i walk along the midst of people i pick up the same smell and it come and goes within a sec, it makes it hard for me to distinguish where could it come from and what actually smells. Lately i started smelling this unpleasant smell in taxis, alone, next to my wife, colleagues and crowd and is the same smell which i can't figure out if a person is dirty or have smelly armpits. Resently i smelled it while my wife and i were in a shower and even though we were both clean i picked up the smell. I am really stressed.
I keep smelling cigarette smoke and it sucks. Pretty sure its due to a sinus infection, i have allergies and im always having problems because im allergic to my cats 😩.
I was worried about phantom smells in my current home until my spouse confessed to smelling cigarette smoke too. None of the previous owners had ever smoke. So how does the medical field explain that? I know I have a sensitive sense of smell. I was able to detect a small gas leak in our home as well as a major plumbing issue but my spouse could never smell anything on those two occasions. But this time, we're both smelling cigarette smoke when no one is smoking or has ever smoked in the home.
Does your next door neighbors smokes cigarettes? Like being outside smoking their cigarettes. Cause our neighbors smoke cigarettes, we can smell cigarettes inside our home. None of us, smoke cigarettes.
I have been suffering from this for a few years now. I smell cigarettes even though I am alone at home and nobody in my home smokes. I usually feel this when I'm under stress. It comes and goes but more often than not, when I'm stressed/depressed I smell it, but if I'm in a good mood I don't. Never gone to see a doctor but lately I've been smelling this too often too much, and I'm considering it
I smell something that smells like eggs 24/7 and it’s only in my house. and I’m only 12. My family says they don’t smell anything but I smell it always. I HATE IT SO MUCH
I’ve been dealing with this for about 2 years. It definitely started right after I took antibiotics after I supposedly has a sinus infection. I sort of lost my smell but it came right back. Though it came back I started smelling a weird smell. Not quite burnt, but then again it was sort of a burn smell, not quite stinky but just weird and annoying. I went to get checked and they put a camera in my nasals. No polyps. They had no explanation. I took a few tests to see what I was smelling on some cards. Out of 100 scents I got about 75 correct. It went away on its own after a about 2 more months. Since then I’d get it off and on. Lasting a few days or weeks then it subsides. Not sure what triggers it. Seems like when I’m anxious or excited maybe. Haven’t dealt with it for months. Now all of a sudden it’s back since yesterday. My son made coffee and from a different room I thought I smelled wood burning. Not a bad stinky burn, just burning. Ugh it’s so annoying because the smell is still here. I can smell other things but that strange odor which is THE MOST hardest to describe is still here. Absolutely mind boggling. This definitely can drive you insane. I’ve tried the olfactory reset with oils. Still no help. 😫
im struggling. can anyone please tell me what to dooo? i thought our neighbor was smoking nonstop. then i realize it was just me. i need to study but i get easily distracted by the smell. i hate it so muchhhhhh!
I smell campfire smoke a lot at random times. It’s at least more than 2 times a day. Sometimes it’s for a long time, and sometimes it’s only for a second
Can anyone else smell it? I thought maybe I might have I but someone else could smell it too. So I'm confused about what it is because none of us smoke.
@@myacreatesstuff Ya, I was alone and my grandma came in to tell me something and then she smelled it. I just thought it was allergies since it is allergy season where I live.
julie banerjee I haven’t smelled it in a while. I think it was stress related bc ever since quarantine I haven’t gone to school (which is where my stress mainly came from).
It's possibly perimenopause / menopause and low estrogen. I for 18 months smell smoke gas and exhaust fumes constantly. I tell you my days were dark and I couldn't cope any more. To me electricity. The beach. Fresh cut grass. Mould. All synthetic smells. Perfumes would smell so bad I couldn't breathe. I researched for ages and came across a page of women all smelling the same thing and it was low estrogen. Started hrt and it went away. I am unable to take hrt with my history. But I found that promensil and phytoestrogens helped a lot. ( cauliflower broccoli soy and many others ) I'm currently however having a relapse and think the can of pepsi Max I had for first time since this all got bad may of plummeted my estrogen and I am smelling non stop exhaust fumes and hope I can fix it again. I also had been taking a journal and was a pattern to when it was worse etc. hope this levels out again really soon as I had got it good for a few months. 🥺
Thank you Nurse Alice! You diagnosed my issue in 4 min. & 7 sec. I want my high deductible $500 coinsurance back ugh! I wish I had known to visit an ENT before paying my primary care Dr. On a positive note, I have an ENT appt. tomorrow, thanks to you! My symptoms of cigarette smoke & eyes burning is embarrassing. I've been reporting strong odors of cigarette smoke in my apt. for about 6 mo. Shhhh... let's keep this between us! My landlord w think I'm Cra-Cray!
I smell nothing but smoke for three days already and it annoys me so much. It started when i had a migraine overnight. Idk if i should already go to the doctor or not. 😐 But i hope its just related to my allergy to dust, nothing more serious.
ur mom 0.2 yes that’s exactly how I feel now. The smell went a away after a week but when I eat I smell it a bit and taste it a bit. But I’ve been drinking detoxing smoothies. Idk if that’s what’s been helping or it’s just going away on it’s own.
I don’t remember when my phantom smells started, but it’s been a while. At first I didn’t know what it was and whenever I smelled those things no one else smelled anything. They come and go and lasts about a day or two, i usually smell smoke or gasoline. By the time I’m typing this, is gasoline, it is so annoying
For most people, the explanation is way simpler. You are suffering from dehydration. This crazy Coffee Addiction of our country is making people 'sick' with all kind of 'minor problems' and also bigger ones. The constant dehydration of people by coffee and strong tea is rampant. This condition cause fatigue, headache, pain, skin problems, mucosa dryness. Once you have Mucosa Dryness, your sense of smell is altered and you may experience all kind of phantom smell, from mold smell to car exhaust strong smell. So before going to see a doctor (especially now that doctors are either out of price or out of the public system) you are better off trying to just cut coffee, alcohol and salty food, and concentrate on rehydrating yourself slowly but consistently. Replace your coffee by water for a day or two and see if things improve.
I was doing yard work all day yesterday and woke up smelling poop! I felt extremely dehydrated yesterday so I felt that there was a correlation between the two.
@@MeganGarzaWellnessabsolutely. It is hard for me to drink plain water when i love the flavor of coffee so much, but i come to realize how important it is to stay away from too much. i try to do the 50/50 rules... One cofee = One 500ml of water.
holy shit my guy you probably have just resolved my issues. the cigarette smell comes and goes and that’s only if i stand near someone physically smoking a cig, it’s fucking gross. it’s been going on since i was 15, i am now 22.
I need to make an appointment with an ENT doctor. I have been smelling what smells like laundry beads for a good couple months now. It sucks. And now it is giving me anxiety.
Ive only been dealing with this for about a year, it's off and on.. cigarette smells, I get headaches and It becomes difficult to function at points. I dont know if I should be worried 😢...I'm only 16 turning 17
I first experienced phantosmia three years ago. I seem experience one of two odd smells at a time. The first one smelled like wild garlic, I thought it was someone's cooking. That made me feel very ill. Currently the smell is really bad, t seems to be coming from my body but even after a shower I can still smell it. I hate being around people in case they can also smell it. One of my friends who is a nurse has checked my skin when I can smell it very strongly, she assures me there is no odour. It makes me very upset and depressed.

Also, it could be dental related. I had a cap fall out and while it was out I smelled smoke. When I went to the dentist to replace the cap, no more smoke smells.
I smell burnt toast when I burn toast. Seriously, when my mother died, I smelled roses for days. She loved roses. A music box she gave me also played without being touched.
Me too! When my mother passed away I smelled an overwhelming strong smell of roses for days.. but strongest right when she passed!! Roses were her favorite flower too!
I had numerous episodes daily of smelling cigarette smoke. ENT doctor ruled out problems there, and head CT scan ruled out brain tumors, epilepsy, etc. Neurologist finally diagnosed me with Silent Migraine, or Phantosmia. I take Nortriptylene daily, which has dramatically reduced the number of smoke episodes.
I smell an ashtray full of burnt cigarettes but wet it is driving me insane especially at nights. I also suffer hardcore migraines i have been suffering them since i was in junior high school then after when i was 27yrs i got in a car accident a car hit me from the back provoking a hard neck whiplash then it sparked my migraines and that bad smell but i always blamed my dad because he smoked outside the house and i always thought the smells would come in through my open window in to my room. Well now i am married moved to a different state and have been getting these same smell episodes and no one smokes near me at all and now it always seems to be more active at nights and it doesn’t let me sleep. I am so frustrated i have been researching it and it seems like there is not much to do about it :(. 😖😖😖😢

Brain tumor are the last thing the web sites and, in this case, the doctor is mentioning so I don’t think that Phantosmia is automatically a sign of brain tumor. I’m pretty sure that there are other symptoms then just Phantosmia when it comes to brain tumor at least that’s what I think.
just an update my phantosmia is 90% gone. Last month I smell different everytime, but now it occurs randomly. Maybe this will be gone soon. So yeah nothing to worry about

Everyone forgets about the spiritual aspect of things!! Clairalience is the ability to perceive smells or scents that are not physically present. It's also known as clairolfaction. People with clairalience may smell fragrances, scents, or aromas that are associated with a specific entity or energy. These scents may be associated with people, places, or situations. Some say that clairalience is a psychic sense that involves smelling an inner smell, rather than an actual physical smell. Others say that people with a strong sense of smell may also have a strong clairalience.

Yes my brain is interpreting the smell wrong. Smoke or something burning is my phantom smell. I recently in the past year had a sinus mold infection. I also did an allergy test and found out I was allergic to mold before the sinus infection diagnosis. So I had sinus plastic surgery 5hours! Afterwards now I have these phantom smells! Tested several times in the past two years and Never diagnosed with COVID19! Could I have damaged olfactory receptors from the surgery? Never had this before the surgery.

I can't taste, I can't smell. The only thing I do taste and smell is the foul odor in my head for SEVEN years now! I've seen a handful of doctors, had a polyp removed and tried a netty pot. NOTHING works, no doctors can help me. I live and breathe stench every minute of the day and in my sleep. I'm sad, I don't feel like eating and don't even enjoy cooking. I can't believe this is the rest of my life! :(
I've had it for years, but it's evolved. Started out like moldy dust, then some weird alien chemical smell, then blood, water, and hot metal. It is influenced by what I've recently eaten as I will smell what's in my bloodstream. You might try a couple of spoonfulls of extra virgin olive oil and see if it makes a positive difference. Or smoked salmon. Those leave good smells in my head once they're in my blood. Good luck.
Hi I ate some fried chicken the other day and I can’t get the smell out of my nose, now I can’t eat food, and can only eat fruit without smelling that over cooked chicken smell, but it’s not bad bad, it pops up when I try to eat food or snacks.

I do smoke, but it started after getting covid. I had covid 1 year back, and my smell came back, but I only smelled weird smells that weren’t there. 5 months after covid I began to smell strong scents, like lemon, parfum and coffee. But the weird smell’s increased as well. It’s the worst when I open the door and wind is blowing in my face, when entering a room or after eating. This is not happening because I smoke, I highly doubt that. But it probably doesn’t help either.

I'm not kidding - but I smell Mint. It started when I was 16 when I went to week long prayer retreat with my parents, and I started having a very strong scent of mint when I would pray. Not just that, I feel the sensation of camphor / balm throughout my respiratory tract, and on my face / skin. It is has a supernatural feeling, because the deeper I pray / meditate the stronger it gets. I'm 30 now, it's been 14 years since I've been consistently having this experience. I don't even identify as Christian anymore, but agnostic-thiest having had a lot of difficulties in my life, but it remains with me. It'll also sometimes start in full force at very relevant times, like when I'm making a decision, or if I start a painting, it'll persist for hours until the painting is done. I find it hard to attribute it to placebo / hallucinations because it is not random or sporadic but at has almost a sense of timing. I'm a scientist at heart, always have been from a child who wanted to be a paleontologist, & a believer in facts and evolution, but I don't have an explanation for this one. I'm having it right now as I type this, and decided to just casually watch scientific explanations for it. I'm aware the smoke smell / olfactory hallucinations are a very real thing, especially for people in the comments, but I'm having a totally different experience.

I got diagnosed with leukemia during the first week of November 2022 (right after I turned 18 years old in mid-October), and I also started chemotherapy that week. Ever since about March or April of this year, 2023, I’ve been occasionally experiencing these terrible phantom smells which I’m assuming is just a side effect of the chemo and/or cancer. It’s super aggravating though because it happens randomly. Sometimes I’ll go several days without experiencing these smells and sometimes I’ll have them eventually show up almost everyday for a while. The best way I can describe it is that it’s a burning kind of smell, but honestly it isn’t really exactly that either. But regardless, it’s super annoying and frustrating because when I get these smells, it effects and absolutely ruins the taste of everything I eat and drink. When I get these phantom smells everything has the same “burnt” sort of smell and taste. I’ve tried to explain this to my oncologists but they don’t seem to understand what I mean and I can’t find anyone else who has experienced this and honestly it’s stressing me out. It’s so frustrating to not be able to enjoy eating and drinking multiple days out of the week. The weirdest part is that if I go to sleep and then wake back up, the smell goes away.
Nina it could definitely be stress.. with all that’s going on in the world right now and especially as a black person, my anxiety has been a bit high. Well hopefully it goes away.

Wow
Ever figure it out ?
Does your next door neighbors smokes cigarettes? Like being outside smoking their cigarettes. Cause our neighbors smoke cigarettes, we can smell cigarettes inside our home. None of us, smoke cigarettes.

I'm currently however having a relapse and think the can of pepsi Max I had for first time since this all got bad may of plummeted my estrogen and I am smelling non stop exhaust fumes and hope I can fix it again.

In this very moment as I typing this comment,I actually covering my nose with my hoodie cause I just can't take anymore of this fucking cigarette smell IM SO STRESSED BY THIS
It probably over a week now since it started, when a neighbour start blowing cigarette smoke out in the street, the smell came directly to our house, and of course I really hate it,I'm not sure but maybe the next night, when I'm washing the dishes,I started to smell it again, and I'm sure there's no one smoking nearby,I take it as a sensation in my nose, couse it always happen to me actually. But,w
It's only when I just gently rub my nose and I smell a fabric conditioner, but the thing is it's not that often,or even rare to happen to me and now it's starting to make me sick, every fucking time, when I lay in my bed at night and use my phone,in this past few days or even week...I always smell this fucking cigarette smoke
I'm so confused and stressed by this already..and I'm literal just a 16 year old male..
the first time I remember getting a phantom smell is when I was around 6 or 7 which lasted for maybe a week and the stopped. didnt have it again until maybe two years ago and again lasted for a couple days or a week. now it's happening again and I have no idea why and I have no idea how to describe the smell
May be the un talked about lasting symptom of a past infection of COVID 19
I can't taste, I can't smell. The only thing I do taste and smell is the foul odor in my head for SEVEN years now! I've seen a handful of doctors, had a polyp removed and tried a netty pot. NOTHING works, no doctors can help me. I live and breathe stench every minute of the day and in my sleep. I'm sad, I don't feel like eating and don't even enjoy cooking. I can't believe this is the rest of my life! :(
Laura Tuller I feel sometimes unreal smell
do you still feel the same or has this gone?
@@halimamuuse11 I am still the SAME/ :(
I've had it for years, but it's evolved. Good luck.
I've finally gotten around to starting a baking business but it's so difficult because I've lost my smell sense.
Hi I ate some fried chicken the other day and I can’t get the smell out of my nose, now I can’t eat food, and can only eat fruit without smelling that over cooked chicken smell, but it’s not bad bad, it pops up when I try to eat food or snacks.
The same happened to me but it was a lemon garlic glaze... idk what to do it’s been like 2 months and I can only eat fruit and sweets without smelling and tasing that awful aftertaste
I smell fire, but my home isnt on fire...
Is it just me, or,, is Nurse Alice just BEAUTIFUL?? lol
Imagine how frustrating it is ,not been able to taste or smell anything ,i suffered for months untill i came across dr ogbebor herbal centre on UA-cam. he cured me with his herbal supplement
I smell gasoline and it’s super strong. As if I was standing right next to a leaking gas pump. Sometimes it make me feel light headed. I did notice this started to happen sometimes after Covid.
did u see a doctor? cuz i smell; gas too
Man I smell something like chemicals whenever I smell random things and its been really bothering me
me too !!!!! it smells like bleach or chemicals! update me on whats happened !!
Did you find out what was wrong?
i smell bleach all the time. And it smells really bad, sometimes strong but other times really faint. :(
Did you ever find out what's wrong? I'm having the same problem now
@@thesharksoutfit1122 idk because the doctor didn't elaborate. But he said something about my allergy causing swelling up my nostrils and affecting my sinuses. Again I'm not sure if this is the reason but it's gone now thankfully. But I know it'll come back someday because it happens every year.
@@thesharksoutfit1122 I hope you get better soon. I know how annoying it is.

Im having the same thing happening to me right now. And my ear is off and on stopped up. Theres a little bit of mucus. I at times feel alil dizzy
It smells like wood burning
I recently recovered from covid and it completely distorted my nose. I can’t smell anything at all, besides a really foul/garbage like smell. I wish it was more of burnt toast like smell, but it switches up from garbage to gasoline and it’s driving me NUTS.
I can’t sleep, I can’t eat, I just can’t focus. the only way for me to sleep without this horrible smell keeping me awake is by taking melatonin. it’s horrible.
I already have horrible anxiety and this is only making it worse for me.
Same here 🤮 this sucks
Sorry your going through this. No your not alone. Its very aggravating..I may get several minutes of relief then it comes back. I have to take vicks vapor rub and pack my nose with tissue just to not smell anything. I'm praying about it and will be praying for you also..
how r u now kath? its been 6 months since u posted this so curious how ur doing now, thanks
I smell gasoline as well
I smell gasoline A LOT to. It’s super annoying. Sometimes it keeps me up at night. I’ll literally have to put a shirt over my nose and breath through it at night until I can fall asleep.
At first I smell cigar smoke then, then I smell something sweet like candy and now I smell burnt plastic. It's so annoying.
Is it still there?

@@peterobrien2537 yeah, it's gone now.
I smell cigarettes but i can smell it when i breath out😂

The weirdest part is that if I go to sleep and then wake back up, the smell goes away.
everyone is smelling burning and smoke and i’m here smelling cat urine
I smell foul garlic 😩 how are you now
Jayla Willis I’m better for the most part. Now that I’m done with college there’s been less stress = less hallucinations.
Nina it could definitely be stress.. with all that’s going on in the world right now and especially as a black person, my anxiety has been a bit high. Well hopefully it goes away. I’ve been making detoxing smoothies and today it wasn’t as bad as the other days. So I guess I’ll keep trying that and stressing less
