How the F**k is this man not a superstar, He plays incredible guitar and his voice is sublime. I saw him back in the 70's and hes got even better. Thers no justice.
Freddie is an Artist and doesent realize how good and better than everyone else he is. I met him once and he is the most humble and quiet man you could imagine.
lived in mountjoy sq ,dublin....1979 -83... freddie white ,barry moore , paul brady, declan synott.nic jones ,eilish moore, sonny condell and many others at the Meeting Place ....and of course, John Cooper Clark at the Grapevine with the Fantastic New Versions as support...thank you .great times!!
Freddie- pure genius is right. We had him in USA and we loved him while he lived here.. We were blessed to have him @ our venue- amazing and wonderful night. He is sorely missed. You surely do have a national treasure in his music, gravely passionate and pure vocals, fabulous mastery of that guitar. But you won him back! Good on you. Our loss.
I do remember being in the Lobby (Cork) in around 1998 and asking him to play this.. dismissed with .. nope. I don't that song anymore.. yet herer we are, that was always my favorite sone.. even after I listented to waits, I still see White as the better version (the do you do album).. don't dis your audiance.. ever.. we might forgive, but we remember..
Freddie always a pleasure to hear that fabulous original guitar style & your choice of songs, I was at the first gig you play'd in Dublin at Toners (I think it was called, up the street from the Baggot Inn) & I couldn't believe your NRG, carisma & rawness, GR8 2C your still doin' it, all the best from a Phantom !
It's difficult to decide which version of this track is better, Tom Waits' or Freddie White's? So I listen and I listen and I listen........ I'm a huge Tom Waits fan by the way.... And I listen and I listen........ I believe Freddie has the edge on emotion.
Saw Freddie bring the house down at the Mean Fiddler way back in 86/87 when he played this song. Like meself he had a full head of hair then. Apart from that nothings changed.
Great Freddie! I have a very close "on - line friend" Jim Barrett, who shared your song written together called "Tia". Your music is fantastic. If you have some time, please check my songs.

Have had the pleasure of his voice and sentiment for over 20 years - he is a legend to be treasured - P
terrific. how come it takes so long to find the great voices
Wow. And I like how Freddie distinguishes the two parts more clearly than the original does (to my ear). Not saying it's better, I just like it.
Thought only Tom Waits sang this song. Lovely version.
beautiful version of ol' Tom
