Ford designed the maverick to sell in the mid 20’s. A few years later they slap on a tremor sticker and boom 40 thousand dollars please. Crazy overpriced for what you get.
Got Maverick yesterday, Ranger is too 'construction crew' like. Maverick is great for average guys who want functionality of a truck without having a BULKY truck.
Liked the way you summarized the comparison at the end.👍👍 We purchased the Maverick Hybrid for the fuel economy and because of its occasional ability for light duty hauling in the bed. The Ranger on the other hand is looking more and more like a “value” replacement for my Jeep Grand Cherokee Hemi as far as Towing & overall go anywhere utility.
Maverick is perfect for my need, I personally don't need it to tow or haul heavy stuff, only need to haul my multiple mountain bikes to the riding trailhead. Easily hosed down the truck bed from dirty/muddy bikes, can't do that with a SUV. Lastly Maverick being a compact truck also make it easier to maneuver in the city and tight parking lots.
Great video. One difference I was surprised by, is how much easier it is to see out the rear window in the Ranger. I assumed it would be the opposite given the size difference.
One problem with doing "like to like" along the Wasatch Front is that the Ranger is rarely ordered by the dealerships in 2WD configurations. So those mythical $32k Rangers? Yeah, you gotta go down to St. George or Vegas to find one.
Maverick is the right sized truck at the right time. It's cheaper to buy and has better crash test results than the entire midsize truck market. The engine options in the Maverick aren't bad either.
If you need to tow, you have to get the Ranger. If you don’t and want a nicer ride, go with Maverick. Only Lariat gets push button on both Ranger and Maverick. Maverick Tremor tested only tows 2k lbs.
At $40K I'm getting the Ranger. That's way too much for a Maverick, no matter the options. For around $10K less you can get a well equipped XLT Maverick which would be a much more sensible choice if you want a Maverick.
Can say the same thing about Ranger vs F-150 when you start adding options. Especially right now with $9000+ in incentives and low interest financing available on the F-150 here in the Midwest.
@plmn93 Definitely a great deal right now. If you can get an F150 in the with the specs you want near Ranger prices, it makes sense to go big. I saw a nicely equipped Silverado 1500 LT with a window sticker of almost $52K, with dealer incentives now drop to $43K. You could probably haggle another couple thousand off too. If I was in the market for a truck at the moment, I'd have seriously considered it. But right now, I'm car payment free and plan to stay that way for at least another 3 to 5 years.
The Maverick is what people expect in a car based truck. Relatively inexpensive and great economy while still offering a lot of utility. That's why it's been so successful while the Ridgeline has been a perpetual sales disappointment for Honda.
@@JoseDiaz-qw7mg Not a single one on a lot near me yet. Sales for April were nearly double last year's. F-150s are piling up though and the big incentives we haven't seen in four years are back. $9000 off plus 1.9% for 72 months.
Maverick is around $9k less similarly equipped. However, AWD is $2,220 on the Maverick XLT, and the FWD version can handle snow easier than the RWD version of the Ranger. I still drive my RWD Grand Marquis in snow, so RWD would not be a deal breaker for me, but it is for most people.
Currently have 24 mustang. Ready for an upgrade for more space to carry my skateboard stuff. Like the big screen radio on the Ranger. & Like the price of the maverick xlt. Decisions, decisions
The interior pretty different but so is this price as far xlt to xlt comparison . The fresh maverick will bring it up to date with tech with the rest of ford pick line . It’s really going depend on your life style but the maverick hybrid is probably best value for dollar with fuel economy involved 😊. I’d take Ranger over tremor maverick.
So I just bought the 2004 explorer sport Trac , and I also own a Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk. It's a similar comparison actually. I like them both... The four-wheel independent suspension has a better ride but it's not about impact really it's about vibration.... The four wheel independent suspension has far less Minor road vibration compared to front independent suspension with rear solid axle. They both ride on overall, just that subtle difference. The four wheel independent suspension holds the road WAY WAY better in hard cornering. So I'm going to say that if you drive sporty, get the maverick, otherwise, get the ranger. The four wheel independent suspension on my Cherokee Trailhawk is WAY more stable on the interstate compared to the sport Trac. Again, I think the comparisons will be similar. To me , the maverick is the new sport Trac. Although the sport Trac , especially 2004 is far more truck - ish , by 2007 , it wasn't so much.
I love the Sport Trac! I did a comparison on my channel to my Maverick AWD a couple of months ago in Park City..Though fairly small, the Sport Trac is higher and looks more like a truck as you said.
@@fordmaverickmaniac I would like to have the V8 with four-wheel drive automatic and 4 wheel independent suspension. Maybe I'll buy that one too one day. Who knows.
@@off-roadingexplained8417 The would be a great rig but each year the Sport Trac gets more rare than the Maverick. Maybe Ford will bring it back, along with the Courier.
The phrase “there is no replacement for displacement” is a lie, because the replacement for displacement is “Weight”, always has been and always will be.
Ford overprices the Maverick now, they don't offer the Tremor or Bronco Sport with 4K lb towing or similar, recent Ford reliability has sucked, and I get better versatility out of a roof-racked Crosstrek Wilderness hatchback just by buying a cheap used utility trailer that has a 3000lb capacity. I can also get a rear auto-locker for the Lesbaru for under $500, and a Cusco front LSD if my wallet starts getting too fat. The only advantage the Maverick has is that I'm a MALE lesbian...so I prefer pickups, and more than 180HP.
I don't know about the Ranger, but the Maverick is built cheaply. Plastic valve covers, cheap, flimsy fasteners in the engine bay, etc. I wouldn't pay the kind of money Ford wants for what you get.
Thumbs down on the video. It's not a fair comparison. Obviously the one doing the video is biased. Or not having correct knowledge of both trucks, or giving it. One of the comments brings out that the Maverick has more room and the reply was it feels like it, come on. Also payloads are higher on the other Maverick's without the tremor package which off sets what the video was trying to not disclose. Also which was mentioned the incorrect towing the tremer package is limited to 2000lbs they dont offer the 4k in the tremor package. The video was biased and off the mark on a true truck to truck comparison. Also top end trim with the most expensive options and trim level on the Maverick and comparing prices to a less trim and less options on the Ranger, when using a price of both as a comparison. The video is misinformation definitely misleading.
Nothing against either of these vehicles but watching Ben do Ford reviews I'm more and more convinced I really don't like anything about anything they do. Lol. It's just my own stupid opinion but they're just so ugly inside and out.
Ford designed the maverick to sell in the mid 20’s. A few years later they slap on a tremor sticker and boom 40 thousand dollars please. Crazy overpriced for what you get.
Same thing with mid and full size trucks. You can spend $100K on a half ton truck, but 85% of it is still a $40K truck.
I think you can get an XLT Tremor for around $32K with a few options.
@@ThomasVManyour out of your mind if you think that’s true.
@@UpwindHJO Ford in Columbia TN has one right now for $32.4K.

The 2.3 in the Ranger and the 2.0 in the Maverick are both great engines! The new Ranger is currently the best midsize truck.
It's interesting that you say the Ranger has more legroom when the specifications say the Ranger is 34.6" and the Maverick is 36.9"?
Feels bigger
One problem with doing "like to like" along the Wasatch Front is that the Ranger is rarely ordered by the dealerships in 2WD configurations. So those mythical $32k Rangers? Yeah, you gotta go down to St. George or Vegas to find one.
I like the maverick body style more…. but I need it for a small vintage trailer that I have. Do they make a maverick that can tow a small trailer?
Maverick tow package can tow up to 4k lbs, available on all trims except tremor.
Thanks for the review and comparison. Exactly what I was wanting to see!!
Got my Cactus Grey Ranger 2.3 XLT FX4 last week and absolutely love it!
Maverick is the right sized truck at the right time. It's cheaper to buy and has better crash test results than the entire midsize truck market. The engine options in the Maverick aren't bad either.
Of course it has a better crash rating its a unibody versus a full frame

Compare similar trims / set ups
If you need to tow, you have to get the Ranger. If you don’t and want a nicer ride, go with Maverick. Only Lariat gets push button on both Ranger and Maverick. Maverick Tremor tested only tows 2k lbs.
I would only buy the Lariat for the push button start along with the rest of the goodies.
If you find the tailgate heavy on the Maverick perhaps you should look at a minivan. Most have power lift gates.
For prices you should do similar trims
That 40k maverick has a lot more than the 40k ranger

Unfortunately the tremor package on the maverick drops the towing to 2000 i beleve.
