He deserved every penny. As a life-long WWF/WWE fan, names such as Hulk Hogan, Macho Man, Bret Hart, Shawn Michaels, the Undertaker, The Rock, and Stone Cold are synonymous with WWE/WWF.
Absolutely stone cold was the best. He knew what the people wanted. Absolute legend.

If Vince handed that check over so easily that mean Vince was making triple or quadruple what he gave Steve off that merchandise.
Probably even more than that honestly.
When someone sells a house as a real estate agent, they typically get 3%, imagine if that is a similar kind of agreement.
I’d imagine he got somewhere around 10% but honestly not sure. That would be a good ‘maven podcast’ episode.

Austin always stood up for himself and wasn’t afraid of confronting Vince, and I think Vince always respected him for that
Vince never respected anyone. He was scared of that check walking out the door
Yes. That's how Kofi got his push, Vince wanted to see if he would stand up to him. Kofi confronted Vicne and it paid off.
He gave him a few stunners as well
If he respected Steve, Steve wouldn't had to confront him to get the money owed to him Vince would have done it from the start and not trying to rob him.

In the late 90s you would see them everywhere you went. Just imagine how much money those shirts made. Austin will forever be my favorite wrestler of all time.
That shirt had so much legend and lore around it. There wasn’t much internet back then. So when I bought it in 5th grade, I was told he wrestled in a match at King Of The Ring that went 3hrs and 16minutes.
😂😂
Lol😂
Greatest of all time.
Worked his ass off for that check.
I knew in the late 90's that Stone Cold was getting huge when i saw a 3:16 shirt at a Walmart. 25 years ago that was a big deal.
He absolutely earned it
Lool 7 figures in merch! Insane, all earnt through hard work and talent, how can you not adore him
Still got my original Austin 3:16 with the New Gen WWF logo on the back before the scratch logo. Perfect condition. GOAT shirt.
I had a Faded one. Wore it to death then sold it 🎉
WHAT?!
Jim Ross once said in an interview the largest single cheque he made out was for one million dollars, and it was for Stone Cold's merch that month.
That's just funny money. Not even counting his salary or what he might have gotten for ppv bonus, etc. Just his merch alone.
Holy shit, 8 figures?! And I still got mine to this day
In 1990s no less.
Seven figures, probably eight figures “now”? Not sure if he’s talking inflation, or still getting these today

Vince was holding the check to give it to him
If Vince didn't give him what he wanted, Steve would have gone back to WCW and taken all of his fans with him. 😅 💲💲💲💲
Austin deserved what was coming to him. He was a rookie of the year breakthrough wrestler. Took him a few years to find a gimmick and then it was legendary.
And he earned every fucking penny of it! Thank you for shaping my childhood
Stone cold been my favorite wrestler since i was a kid Hes of the Greatest ever
I remember Austin 3:16 shirts were EVERYWHERE! I still have won. Then every so often a new Stone Cold shirt would come out. They were all really cool
I had an Austin 3:16 hat and shirt back in 2001. Best WWF merchandise EVER!
I still have my “What?” shirt from 2002. Fits brilliantly and in stellar condition. Wearing it tonight!!
Stone cold single handedly was wwf
The fact that Austin even had to address that to Vince is sad enough
Scott Hall said the percentages for merchandising royalties were part of the reason for him going to WCW. He said that he asked McMahon how he can make more money. There were no guaranteed contracts at the time and Hall being in the upper mid card, wasn't making main event money. So he said he suggested a small percentage increase on the merch royalties. Vince refused. And we know Hall's merch didn't sell remotely near the amounts as Austin's.
Vince was hoping that Steve wouldnt say anything but if he did, Vince new exactly the number that he could live with.
DTA
AUTIN 3:16
And a few more. Austin was a an underappreciated businessman
I will drink a beer to that. BIG BANK AUSTIN 🤣👍🇺🇸
Legendary The G.O.A.T. 🐐 and my Favorite All Time Favorite Stone Cold Steve Austin 3:16 💀
Stone Cold is definitely one of the greatest wrestlers of all time
I still have an Austin 3:16 T-shirt.
He single handily made wrestling cool
That man has sold every much of merchandise has anyone else has ever done plus he save the company and 98. If it wasn’t for him there will be no company now.
I was in High school when the attitude Era in full effect. 3:16, NWO, & DX. You saw a lot in mid 90s
That was our Golden Age. Anyone remember when you could watch WCW and the Raw 4 hours of wrestling couldn't be beaten
And thats the bottom line because Stone Cold said so
what great story never heard before!
its slightly ironic even SUPERSTARS like Austin had to fight for every nickel.
Vince doesn’t get enough credit for not handing over what the performers deserve.
My favorite wrestler as a kid growing up.
He was my Favorite in 90s til his last match
Good for him, Steve earned every penny ❤
My favorite wrestler. Of all time!!!
The man came up with his best slogan all by himself. He deserves a higher % because of it.
There’s nothing wrong with asking for more royalties. He deserves it
Bro had me thinking Vince Gilligan w that breaking bad music 😂
Hell of a wrestler! Hell of a business man!!! And just one hell of a well rounded man. Loved watching him in WWF/E and beyond that with his shows!
What's more amazing is that it's a simple white font on a black shirt. Keeping the costs down even more.
And rightfully so. I got back into wrestling because of him. Went to Royal Rumble in San Jose and Tyson was right above me
Tyson was a big fan of his main man Cold Stone
He came up with the idea for the expression, the shirt, sold it and deserved a huge percentage of the royalties.
Good for him.
I’m glad that he advocated for himself.
bro the mcdonalds beeping in the back had me so distracted. I was like "TF IS THAT COMING FROM"
Black Shirt, White Letters. Million Dollar cheque.
Truth be told, he really blossomed after he was fired by WCW and worked for ECW. His best shoot interviews were in ECW.
There’s 2 Morals here: “know your worth” and “pay your people”
They (WCW )motivated 2 of the biggest stars ever to grace pro wrestling in Undertaker & Stone Cold!!
Thanks WCW 🙌🏽🙌🏽
saved wwf, made an era of wrestling one of the best ever. and created one of the most iconic characters ever. earned every cent
as a 35yrs old a long time wwf/ Stone Cold fan, this guy is why we all sat glued to the tv by 10min before 9 waiting to see who he's about to open a can a whoop ass.. had vince said no to stone cold for the merchandise, I'd give him stunner after stunner after... he deserved every penny
He is probably still getting those checks. His merch will never not sell
When you hear the glass, that's your ass! 💀👊

Funny how Vince was able to do it for Steve austin but when Scott hall asked a few years earlier Vince said no way. Leading to 2 of his top guys leaving and creating his biggest opposition in the nwo.
He single handedly made wrestling main stream his entire wwf run and created many stars. Give em a blank check and theyll still owe him money.
Steve Austin went from “you’re never goin be a star kid” to Defining an era and basically being an American pop culture hero
No tshirt ever sold more than the Austin 316 shirt i saw it everin the late 90s it was crazy
He always said that Vince is a man of his word.
His most popular t-shirt must of sold close to 20 million at this point and that’s insane for a piece of wrestling merch
I have all his shirts. He deserved every penny!! I miss Stone Cold.
Was this filmed at a McDonald’s
I was wondering the same thing
Glad I'm not the only one that heard it
I know people who have multiple of his shirts. An old one for yard work, another older one for sleep/lounging, and and newer one to go out in.
The era of Austin was truly the golden age. His feud with McMahon is prob the greatest rivalry all time. That shirt was everywhere.
Deserved it. Him, Rock, Taker and HHH saved that promotion
Fuck fear, drink beer tshirt gotta be one of the top pieces of merch they've ever sold.
Even today those shirts are still in the top 10 The most popular merchandise WWE has ever sold.
Notice how Vince didn't try to rob him..He ask Steve what we should do
When I was a kid him and the rock were the only merch I really wanted
If by any chance anybody needs to understand how popular that shirt is, just think to the fact that to this day, 25 years later, this shirt is still always on top 10/top 5 most sold shirts every year. Austin was on another level
Imagine Stone Cold with the exact same gimmick, attitude, theme song, 3:16 shirts, EVERYTHING. But instead of Stone Cold, he came up with Red Hot Steve Austin
That KOR 1996 promo is the best promo to me off all time a star was bout to shine after that.
That red letter Austin 3:16 shirt was my favorite. Clean af.
3:16 shirts were everywhere
Hell yeah! I had both the white skull and red Austin 3:16 shirts !! Attitude Era forever
Stone Cold Steve Austin single handedly saved the WWF and Vince knew it.
Even now at Clash at the Castle 2022 almost 2 decades after he retired they still had "Cardiff 3:16" T-shirts for sale. I bought 2.
I had at least 5 stone cold shirts and 3 rock shirts when i was a kid. My goats
God was rolling when he created you bro. 🤣🤣🤣🤣 The 🐐 in the Ring!!!!
Scsa is the number one reason i kept watching wrestling for a long as i did
Seeing stone cold with hair is frightening 😂😂😂😂😂
"cuz Stone Cold Said so!"
Good on Steve for calling BS on royalties.
In his podcast with Kevin Nash, they mentioned a lot of bootlegged NWO and Austin 3:16 shirts where being sold a lot. It was like stealing from the wrestlers.
Stone Cold Steve Austin's shirts are always one of the best from the WWF merchandise
Still the number 1 merch seller. Absolutely insane
😂😂 Vice probably said that about a lot of top wrestlers I’ve never given anyone this much before 😂😂 but Stone definitely deserves it
That's awesome I'm glad he found so much support from the WWE universe 😊
Except for Vince apparently. Like he shouldn’t have to ask for a fair cut for his own merch and royalties
@@bennu547 I know what you mean. In Vince's mind, Steve wouldn't have gotten to where he was without Vince. In that regard, Vince is kind of like a record label promoting an artist/band they have on their label, and Steve would be the band/artist (in that analogy).
@ExaltedMarauder dusty saw austin had Star he was about to get a run with flair but then they brought hogan in and hogan bumped Steve which set in motion the wheels for him to go to ecw and kinda start the austin character in promos before going to wwf
